Nyx stared down at the date on the notice. Monday the 18th of summer. Year 52 of Amerma. A few weeks, so she didn’t have long to rent a horse. If she packed two changes of clothes, some accessories, first aid, and hygiene products she could fit it all in her bag. Worked for her!

Maybe a few days later, Nyx was tired of travel. She was in need of a nice rest. Instead of renting a horse, she bought one. She didn’t know how she ended up in this situation, but she also had a stable rented for the horse back home. For now she also had a place for the horse to stay while here in the capital city of Mirgoe. A cloaked person riding a big horse seemed to be a little too suspicious. Though this cloak was for the rainy weather she had just gotten out of.
Riding up to the stables, she got off her horse and walked up to the stable keep. Again, person in a cloak was suspicious. Made enough sense for it to be. No one could see who she was, nor would they know who she was to begin with. “I’m here to put away my horse, I’ve booked a stay at the inn.” The stable keep didn’t say a thing and just stared at her. It was a bit creepy. Soon the keep said where to put up her horse, it was put up, she grabbed some of her stuff out of her saddle bag, then finally she was able to check in. Oh dear mercy, how it felt so sweet to be able to rest safely for an evening!

The inn-keep was an older woman. With scales and horns, and a tail. Not to mention her fins and scars. Creatures called leviathans, or sea serpents as some may call. That was the inn-keep. “You, elf. What are you doin’ here?” The woman’s voice was raspy and cold.

“Here to check in Miss,” Nyx handed in her note saying that she had permission to be here and that she had prepaid for a room plus horse keep. Carrier animals many of which were medium-sized dragons that could be trained to take letters and packages to places. She had no clue of why she was being summoned to the castle. It was just for mages that graduated from the academy, and from around her town as well. Could there be a criminal on the loose that graduated in her year? Maybe the family was on the look for a royal mage? What was with Glix of all places the academy? She knew the academy was good and all, but not the best. Why was she chosen?

The inn keep looked at the girl. Soon she about yelled, “Girly! I’ve been calling for you for a bit now, so hurry up and grab your keys. Or get out right this very moment,’ she tossed the keys once she saw Nyx get her mind jumpstarted.

Nyx fumbled as she tried to catch the keys and quickly left to go to her room. “Sorry miss!” She was ever so embarrassed while walking up the stairs while hurriedly checking her room keys. She checked the room number over and over and over. Just until in the room she was. Time for sleep. Once she hit the bed, she was out like a stone.
