(Warning: occasional cussing, car crash mention, and hinting towards a past divorce or death, not super obvious though)
Hi! My name is Gwen(short for Gweniveire). I have olive skin and brown eyes with dark brown hair. I am 17 years old. A senior in high school, with the best boyfriend ever. However, it didn’t start out this way. Back in sophomore year my boyfriend, Luke, was my best friend. In fact, we would bicker fairly often. So, this is the story of how we came to be. ______________________________________
“Gwen! You’re gonna be late for school!” My mom called from downstairs. I sit up and rub my eyes, checking the time. 7:17. Sh*t. I quickly get up and dress, brushing my hair and teeth before running downstairs. Mom was in the kitchen. “Morning Gwen,” She said.
As I walk into the kitchen, mom hands me pop tarts and my lunch box. “See you after school sweetheart, walk safe!” Mom says.

“Thanks mom,” I say, checking the time on my phone.

7:23. I give mom a hug and grabbed my backpack, rushing out the door.
I walk to school every morning. It’s about a twenty minute walk. I live a little over a mile away from school. About a block away from my house, I stop.
”Hey bestie!” I hear.
I grin. “Your mom let you walk with me today?” I ask.
”Yup!”
I look over at my friend Olivia and give her a hug. “Well, let’s go! We’re meeting Luke halfway,” I tell her.
“I seriously don’t get why you meet up with him every day. You guys fight as often as you get along.” She says.
“Because he’s my friend, and no matter how much of an arrogant a*s he is, he’sa good person deep down.” I say, sticking up for my friend.
“Yeah, deep deep deep deep down.” Olivia responds, rolling her eyes.
”Whatever, be like that. It’s not gonna change anything,” I tell her.
By now we were about a block away from Luke’s house. I spot him waiting by the street light outside his house. I grin and wave. “Hi Gwen!” He says as we walk up to him.
”Hi Olive,” he teases Olivia.
”Hi!” I say back, at the same time as Olivia says, “whatever.”
He raises a brown, a grin on his face. “What, did I annoy you? I’m sorry Olive.”
Do I have to say he didn’t sound sincere? I would think it was obvious. We start walking towards school again.
“Don’t call me that.” Olivia replies.
”Whatever Olive.” He responds, smirking.
I roll my eyes. “Now who’s arguing?” I ask Olivia.
She looks at me. “I’m not his friend, you are. I can argue with him all I want, you however, are supposed to get along with him.” She argues.
Luke snorts. “You hear that GG? You need to get along with me. That means you need to do whatever I want.” He remarks.
I roll my eyes. “Not gonna happen as*hole.” I respond.
”See what I mean? You two argue all the time!” Olivia exclaims.
I look at her. “We’re not arguing. We’re bickering. It’s normal. Trying to get on each other’s nerves.” I reply.
”No, that’s siblings. Not friends.” She states.
”Yeah well I don’t have any siblings so how would I know.”I snap.
Luke chuckles. “Sounds like you two argue more than me and GG.” He says.
”GG and I.” Olivia corrects.
” Yeah yeah whatever,” he responds.
By now we’ve made it to school. “Bye guys!” I say, and immediately head to class.

Two weeks later…
The day before winter break
Luke rushed up to me, looking panicked. “What’s wrong?!” I ask.
” Mum’s in the hospital. She got in a car crash.” He responds.
I’ve never heard him this nervous or worried before. I gasp in disbelief. “Is she Ok?” I ask.
He nods. “Yeah, she’s gonna be in the hospital over winter break though, she’s got a sprained wrist and a concussion. I know it’sa lot to ask but… do you think I could stay at your place over winter break? Just until mum’s back?”
” Of course! Let me tell mom real quick!” I respond, pulling out my phone.
*is it ok if Luke stays over winter break? His mum got in a car crash and won’t be home*
I get a response almost immediately.
~of course! I’ll see you guys school sweetheart!~
I turn to Luke, “Yeah, she’s cool with you coming over.” I say.
He sighs in relief. “Thanks Gwen.”
I give him a hug. “No problem.”
”I’m sorry for being an as*hole.” He says.
I look at him, dumbfounded. “Thanks I guess.” I respond. “You’re forgiven.” He nods.
After school I walk him to his house so that he can pack for the week. “Can you come in with me?” He asks.
I nod. “Sure.”
We go upstairs to his room and I help him pack. “Winter break is two weeks, right?” Luke asks.
“Yeah.”
”Ok.”
I find myself staring at him. If I’m being honest, he’s actually fairly cute. I don’t know how I didn’t notice before. His long-ish blond hair and his green eyes suit him. He’s always so confident in himself too.
And I’m going to be spending two weeks with him.
About a half hour later we make it home. I wave to mom as I take off my shoes and place them on the rack in the living room.
”Where will Luke be staying?” I ask.
Mom furrowed her eyebrows like she always does when she’s thinking. “Well, the guest room is a disaster of your fathers old things, are you comfortable with him staying in your room?” She asks.
I look to Luke. “Are you ok with that?” I ask him.
”Yeah.” He responds.
I shrug and lead him up upstairs to my room. It’s fairly simple. Not girly, but not necessarily masculine either.
My walls are light mint green with stained wood on my windowsill. My curtains are dark purple and my bunk bed has a healthy purples, blues, reds, and greens.
I despise pink, so the only bit of pink is a neon pink and orange lava lamp. There’s a book shelf in the corner by my bed, and a multicolor lamp next to my small open closet.
I have a dresser at the foot of my bed, a small tv on my wall, as well as some animal posters. The wall opposite my door is covered in fantasy posters and drawings, such as dragons, elves, and much more.
I have a small desk with a stool, and a beanbag chair in the corner of the room by the lamp. If you looked outside my window you would be able to see the woods outside our house.238Please respect copyright.PENANAVcae8jEBYw
” Nice room,” Luke remarked. “Not as girly as I thought it would be, though I never pegged you for a bookworm.”
I grin. “Luke, I’ve been reading for years. Why do you think I’m always in the library?”
”I don’t know, studying? You always seemed like you’d be the teachers pet.” He replied.
I laugh. “I’ll pull down some blankets and a pillow for the top bunk, you can sleep there. The bathroom is just across the hallway.” I say.
He nods.
About 2 hours later mom calls us down for dinner.
Over dinner, we chat and laugh and all have a good time. Luke gives a genuine smile, the first one I’ve seen since he came up to me in school today. “So… how’s teenage drama going? Friend group troubles? Relationships? Anything interesting?” Mom asks.
I groan. Luke grins. “Not much actually, other than Olive doesn’t seem to like me much.” Luke says.
”Olive?” Mom asks.
”Olivia,” I respond, glaring at Luke.
Mom laughs. “Well, I don’t see why she doesn’t like him, I mean, what’s not to like?” She asks.
Luke smirks in my direction. I smile. “Well, maybe the fact that he’s really arrogant and rude, and most likely has an ego bigger than his brain.” I retort.
Mom chuckles. Luke glares. “Well maybe if you would chill out and actually say something nice about me for once I wouldn’t be so rude.” Luke says.
I glare at him. “You two fight like a couple,” Mom remarks, grinning.
My eyes widen. So do Luke’s. “We do not!” We both said at the same time.
We look at each other and all three of us start laughing.
After dinner, Luke and I went upstairs to my room and watched tv. Luke looked over at me. And I couldn’t help but stare at his gorgeous green eyes. Dinner kept replaying in my head.
-you two fight like a couple- mom said.
I look over at him again to see him intent on the movie. I had turned on Stranger Things, knowing it’s something he likes to watch. I don’t really care for it.
I realize now just how out of touch with my feelings I am. How do I feel towards Luke? 238Please respect copyright.PENANA87v3mkn9GJ
A week went by fast. Each day was around the same. Hang out, eat, watch tv, chat with mom. Throughout the week, however, I started to come to a realization.
I have a crush on Luke. And I don’t know if he feels the same way.
I mean, I couldn’t just ask him. That would be weird. Right?
I look over at him to find him staring at me. I blush and turn away, hoping he didn’t notice. Too late.
”Did you just blush?” Luke asks.
”No,” I respond, still looking away.
”Look at me.” Luke says.
I turn to look at Luke, hoping my face isn’t red. “You totally blushed.” He says.
I blush, unable to stop myself. “Ok yeah, I blushed.” I admit.
He raises his brow. “Is there Something you’d like to tell me? Or ask?”
I hesitate, then decide to go for it. “How do you feel about me?” I ask.
“I think you’re the most amazing person in the world. Why do you ask?” He replies.
“Do you-“ I take a deep breath, “Do you like me? Like, as more than a friend?”
“I thought you would’ve noticed by now. Obviously I like you, Gwen. What’s not to like?” He responds.
My eyes widen. “I like you too.”
He grins. “Well, Gwen, would you like to be my girlfriend?” He asks.
I gasp in surprise. “Yes! Of course!” I exclaim. He gets up from the beanbag chair and walks over and sits next to me on the bed. I give him a hug, then kiss him on the cheek.
He blushes and smiles at me, then leans in. I close my eyes and he kisses me, gently. We broke the kiss and my eyes fluttered up open, meeting his green gaze. “Your eyes are gorgeous,” He says.
“Thanks,” I respond, “so are yours.”
I kiss him again, savoring the fact that Luke, my used to be best friend, was now mine. My boyfriend. What a day.
”You’re still arrogant you know,” I remark, smirking at him.
”Yeah, but you love it.”
