I was there. I saw America be crowned. They know her story but not many people know of mine.
I was one of the 35 girls selected and I made it until the last two months when I was kicked from the contest. This is why I was booted from the competition early and I’m going to tell you the story.
My name is Eliza Dewberry and here is my story.

I thanked my maids for all the work they did for me that night because I was expecting Maxon to come. I got into a dress that was plain and very thin. It had white trimming along the edge of the dress but other than that it was plain light orange. I was getting ready when I heard a knock at the door. I immediately answered it but when I got to the door I saw nobody.
I looked down the corridor and instead of seeing Maxon walking toward me or one of my maids I saw instead that it was America, and she wasn’t alone. I saw a guard with her and they were too close for them to be just talking. He was holding his hand up on the side of her face and was speaking to her softly. I made my way towards them but just as I took a step a floorboard creaked as I stepped on it urging me to run back into my room which I did.

I waited that night. It was shorter than it felt when I heard a knock at my door for the second time. This time it was Maxon and that night I decided to tell him everything.
"Hi, Maxon...I need to tell you something." I said. "Just kiss me already- " then he kissed me and at first I wanted to kiss him back but I needed to tell him so...
"No, I need to tell you something so please stop" I sighed, wishing the kiss lasted a bit longer. He stepped back, he'd looked like he'd never been rejected ever. "Alright, but we must make haste with what you're saying. You don't want to go to the dinner and have the food cold, do you?" He said softly. I chuckled but I went back to being serious.
"Maxon, I saw America in the halls...with another man, and they looked like they were flirting and he kissed her too," I said worriedly. He burst out laughing and at that point, I seriously thought he knew but it was quite the opposite.
"Lying won't boost your opportunities with me, Eliza," said Maxon. "I don't care about that. I care about keeping your feelings safe. We all know you love America but does she love you back or is she playing you and dating another man behind your back" I say not finished, "Hasn't she mentioned at all once about a guy at home and how he might have been drafted here!" "It's not true!" yelled Maxon. "YES, IT IS- WHY WON'T YOU JUST LISTEN-" "NO, YOU LISTEN! I HAVE TRIED SO HARD TO HEAR ALL OF YOUR LIES BUT THIS WAS IT!! YOU'RE LEAVING TOMORROW!!...please pack your bags-"
"Let me at least leave you with a warning...don't get heartbroken and come crying back to me or any of the other girls," I say. "Good, because I won't need you" and with that, he left and I fell onto my floor crying.

The next morning I left. When I got home I fell into my dad's arms crying. The next few months were torture but soon came the choosing day when I was told to go back. When I got to the castle I saw Maxon and formally we're supposed to curtsy and that's all I did but when I looked at his face you could tell that he was crying earlier. I knew he got heartbroken. When I saw America, my worries were confirmed. Maxon sat closer to the other girl than to America and he mostly talked to the other girl the entire time.
The next thing I knew we were being attacked. Instinctively I leapt into action by kneeing one guy in the crotch and seizing his gun. When I got it I saw America leave Maxon on the ground and Kriss laying on the floor next to him as well. I ran to help him and take him to the nearby safe room. I picked up what I could of him and dragged the rest of his body into the safe room. Weakly he said, "Th- thank y-" "save it," I say, still angry from what he did.
When we got to the nearest escape room I set him down on a nearby bed and I sat on the floor with the gun pointing towards the now-locked door.
"Really, thank you..and I'm sorry for what I said to you the last time. You were right...I was wrong" he said. "I told you. But yeah...friends?" he chuckled. "Yeah, friends"
