He sat in a tree

And look down at me

His eyes were so back

That’s something I lack

He called out to me

But not in a plea

For he seemed to just want

To stare down at me

From his perch

Up so high in the tree

To match his dark eyes

He was clothed in all black

You see color in something

That he seemed to lack

I stood there and stared

As he sat in the tree

As he looked down at me

We stared at each other

For what seemed like forever

He seemed just oh so clever

He stared down at me

From up in the tree

He seemed as if he could see

Yes see the real me

Into my heart

My soul

My being

Maybe that’s why I was so sad

At his leaving

Still clothed in all black

He stretched out and flew

Flew to somewhere

I never knew

Now I sit here and wait

And look up in the tree

The tree where he

Yes where he used to be

But sadly now

No black eyes stare back at me

For the little black bird

Has already fleed
