My body ached and my head was pounding. The only warmth I felt was from my blood running down my fingertips. All I could hear was the soft drip, drip it made on the floor beneath me. My wrists were raw from the thick rope they were bound to. This was never going to work. My body didn’t react to fear. They think if they push me enough I’ll break and show them I am strong enough. I didn’t want to show them but they know they can smell it. They know I am ready. I can’t do this forever but I don’t want to die. Only one out of a hundred survive the complete transformation. I could feel her inside me trying to claw her way out to the surface and be free. She was screaming at me to let her out to come to my defense. I knew who she was and I didn’t want to be the vessel that brought her back into this world. To become a wolf as a female you must be chosen by a spirit that chooses you. How it picks is still undetermined for most of us. Not everyone is strong enough to complete the transformation so it just moves on. I am the first to try and reject the wolf. What I am doing is the highest form of disrespect to any pack. Most of us just pray we are never chosen.
Light rushed back to my eyes as a bag was removed from my head. A hand came in contact with my face and she howled inside me. Her claws scratched at my insides aching to be released. My mouth filled with blood and I spit it back at my own brother disgusted. I smirked as he watched the bruises he caused started to fade. He hit me again thinking he was close to releasing her. She growled inside me. He looked back at me puzzled. We can’t heal until our first transformation in human form. Only one female wolf was ever able to do that and she was the most powerful one of us all. If I let her out she could easily be the end of me. She has been looking for someone strong enough to hold her for centuries.
“Come on Katrina just let her out. I hate having to do this to you. You know he will make me continue. If he has to try Kat he won’t be as gentle as me let her out.” Damien begged me.
“I can’t and you know why. She will kill me and we all know it. I don’t know why you men make us die. Let him try.” I said with a hint of anger and felt the fire burning inside of me.
“You don’t really mean that Kat he’s watching.” Damein motioned to the camera in the corner of the room facing me.
“You mean our Alpha will grace me with his presence? He doesn’t make me tremble like the rest of you.” I mocked him. Only my brother has had direct contact with him since he became Alpha. Power sure has gone to his head lately. It makes me laugh. I am also a late bloomer. I turn 19 in three days. Most wolves turn around 16 or 17 females 15 to 17. I kept my wolf hidden for a little over 6 months until our Alpha sniffed me out.
“Kat, you really should have just listened to me.” Damien sighed. He brushed my face gently with his hand and walked away slamming the door behind him. I guess the three days of torture showed I wouldn’t break.
The hairs on my arm stood up and a cold breeze swept through the air. The breeze carried the trees from the forest mixed with after shave. It was really him. I could sense his frustration and it made me happy. He treats everyone like they are lambs up for the slaughter. He annoys my soul. The wolf in me was excited, happy even. That irritated me. I don't know why she chose me. It seems to like everything I despise or maybe it's the excitement of her being let out. His scent was closer; he was almost to the door. I was ready to spit in his face too. The door opened and the smell of his aftershave filled my nose. He had on his black silk shirt that tugged at his muscles in all the right places and his black pants. I looked down at his red sneakers and smirked. He had dirty blond hair and eyes that looked like the forest. His olive skin made the wolf inside me jump; it didn't help that he was built like a tank either. He got way more buff then he was 6 months ago.
“Roman.” I said with disdain.
“Katrina my dear why must you be so stubborn. You know how much it pains me to be cruel to you.” Romans thick russian accent sent a chill down my spine. I said nothing, just looked at the forest in his eyes. Each time he speaks I am reminded of the night my parents were killed by his father. How my brother and I were forced to join his pack. My brother and I are rare according to Roman’s father. We have blue marker genes that were thought to be extinct. Only the most pure blood lines had a blue marker meaning our fur would be solid gray in wolf form with blue eyes. Unfortunately when my brother turned it only confirmed all our fears.“Kat, just let her out and get it over with.” Roman interrupted my thoughts.
“I’d prefer to stay alive thank you, someone has to stop my brother from becoming you.” I spat back at him.
“Don’t worry my dear I won’t lay a finger on you. I don’t need to. I am going to do everything to invoke the transformation. Unless you just give up and give in.” Roman smirked. I said nothing. “Very well don’t say I didn't warn you.” Roman placed some type of device on the table and went to plug it in. He smiled and placed headphones on his head. He moved the dials on the device and turned it on. A high pitched tone went blaring through the room. My eardrums popped causing blood to trickle down. The wolf in me was whimpering. She has never done this before. I could feel her violently scraping against skin to come out. Her claws almost reached the surface. I closed my eyes and clammed my body and she relaxed, still gently clawing away. She was pissed now along with me. She retreated and let me take control. I guess we were finally on the same page. She wanted to rip his face off slowly. He turned it up again, her claws helped me escape the tight ropes and retreated.
“Is that all you’ve got? I won’t let her out, I am in complete control.” I laughed at Roman.
“Impossible you should be in your wolf form trying to attack me. This sound triggers the fight response in every wolf. Unless you are her and she is you. Impossible you would have to be a descendent from her line. They were all killed off.” Roman’s eyes filled with fear. He walked up to me and put his hand on my face and looked into my eyes. “Miroslava. Is that who you are hiding in there her spirit is the most dangerous of all she destroyed villages to keep her family safe. Unlocked things none of us can do. She chose you? Why?” Roman became irate. He slammed his fists on the machine and it shattered into a million little pieces. He picked me up from the chair I was in and threw me across the room. So much for not laying a finger on me. The wolf inside me moved us to our feet and I could feel her eyes looking around the room.
“Fascinating, you can control what part of the wolf to use without having transformed. We can not force you to turn because you were already born a true wolf. The transformation is not needed to activate your wolf side.” Roman smirked as if he was happy about his discovery. I didn’t believe him. He would say anything just to get me to turn. A female in your pack makes you look strong and their seed. He wants me for himself. If I survive. Part of me wanted to believe I could change right here and right now and kill him. The rational part of me knew to stay calm. I don't want to turn unless I know it’s that or die anyway.
“Like I’d believe you. You would say anything to just get me to turn.” I spat back at Roman. I wanted nothing more than to tear his throat out and throw it across the room. Something inside me wouldn’t let me hurt him even though it was all I could think about. He walked over to me once again and gently pushed his finger against my bottom lip. I almost felt something. I twisted his hand away from my face until I heard a pop. I was satisfied with the break. I knew it would heal in a matter of minutes but to just hurt him gave me a little pleasure. Part of me wondered if what he said was true and if I was really a descendent of hers. That would mean my entire life was a lie and my real parents weren’t real at all. My head was spinning but this could all just be lies Roman tells to just get me to turn. My ears had healed and I brushed the blood from the side of my face.
“My dear there is so much for you to learn. There hasn’t been a true wolf sense the great war. You Americans are taught nothing of our history.” Roman taunted me. He looked at his hand and popped it back in place without any sense of emotion which worried me. He looked into my eyes once again and just smirked. He motioned to the door behind us and I heard the door unlock. He was letting me go. But why? Maybe he was telling the truth but even so why not push me to turn even more? It made no sense.
“Why are you just letting me go?” I looked at Roman in confusion. My body wanted to run through the door and not ask any questions but my feet remained still. The wolf inside remained hesitant but content. I began walking toward the door still in shock.
“I have no use to torture you into the change; It’ll happen when you want it too. You should begin looking for a mate.” Roman responded. I couldn't help but wonder If what he had said was true. Who were my parents then if I really had her spirit. Why did she do the things she did? What was her story even though; I never paid attention to any of it? I just hoped I would never be chosen. Man has that backfired. If Roman was right when would I want to change then? This was all too confusing; part of me thought he just made it all up to get me to change but the other wanted this whole new life.
“I still don’t trust you. I will never bow down to you even if you are my Alpha.” I spat back at Roman. No matter what the truth was, his father still murdered the people that raised me. His pack always made me sick. What do you do though other than survive in the situation you are put in? I walked down the dark hallway, my legs stiff from being stuck to a chair for over three days. I could sense that Roman was following me and the hair on the back of my neck stood up with his presence so close. I kept my eyes forward and followed the little beam of light to an exit. I felt a hand on my waist and I felt myself growl. Roman held me close and my breath caught in my throat.
“Watch your step, I don’t need you hurting yourself on my watch.” Roman whispered in my ear. I found it very ironic after what we just went through. His touch somehow was gentle now almost like he was concerned. I hated that he was our Alpha and once I turned I’d have to obey his command. That was just never in my nature to lay down and submit. His hand moved to my waist to my lower back he brushed his fingers across my back causing me to gasp.
Daimen was pacing back and forth, obviously worried about the outcome. His eyes met mine and I could see his shoulders release the tension he was feeling. He ran up to me embracing me in a hug and my feet left the ground. He squeezed me so tight I could barely breathe. I hugged him back and squeezed just as hard and he released me. I heard Roman quietly growl at Damien when I returned the hug. That only made me laugh. Roman had no business growling at him.
“You are still alive, that's a good sign. Are you a part of the pack now?” Damien asked as he looked me over for any scrapes or bruises. Like he would do anything anyway he would never stand up to Roman. One of us had to be obedient to him and from a young age that was not me.
“No apparently I am a true wolf and it’ll just happen when I want it to.” I responded with sarcasm. Damien's eyes dilated and I could now hear his heart beat increase. He was scared. I guess I should have paid more attention to the stories we were told as kids. I could tell he had just as many questions as I did. A part of me was scared, the other wanted to embrace the power I felt in my veins.
“I guess it’s time I tell you the truth about our family Kat. I thought it was just a story but I see now why it’s been passed down for generations. You have no idea what you will do for us Kat.” Damien responded with concern. I was over this whole situation. I wanted to go for a run to stretch out my legs. I also wanted a hot shower. I may heal fast but my muscles needed some hot water. My ears were pounding and I could hear a light ringing in my ear from the machine Roman used on me. There was no physical evidence of what was done to me but my body still felt it all. I felt my feet begin to move and I passed Roman; I was running. I felt the cool in the air as it brushed against my face. It felt great to just run but I still didn’t know why I was running. I could feel her inside me pushing my legs forward to go faster. She wanted to get far away from our prison. I could feel her pushing her way to the surface and I was too weak to fight her off anymore. Holding her in while Roman used his machine took all of my energy. I can’t let her out in the middle of the day. No human can see me change. It is forbidden. She knew I was weak and she could sense it. I continued to run, letting her lead me to whatever she needed to show me. I was just hoping she would keep her claws in until the sun went down.
I opened my eyes and looked around, nothing seeming to look familiar anymore. I had no idea where I was. Buildings all blurred together and my head began to pound as my legs increased speed. I could hear my heartbeat now and never felt more alive. I started to really look around and I could see everything more clearly. I saw a drop of water slide off a leaf hitting the ground like an atomic bomb. It was breathtaking, everything seemed to be in slow motion. My legs began to burn and shake. I was tired. The wolf within me didn’t care, just kept running.
“Stop running Kat. Stop fighting us, we just want you to let her out.” I heard Roman yell. He must be following me. No wonder my pace hasn’t slowed. I looked back to see him about a half a mile behind me. He had stopped to catch his breath and held his hands at his knees. I had never seen him stop or run out of air. I almost wanted to see if he was okay but the ringing in my ear was a reminder of who he was. With my legs aching I pushed myself to run faster and I heard him fall to the ground. “Don’t go out there Kat it's dangerous.” Roman yelled desperately.
The hairs on the back of my neck stood up as I entered the forest. I looked around, noticing it was now dark outside. Not that it really mattered. I could see well either way. It was just like looking through super advanced night goggles. With my wolf eyes I could see everything. The forest air was so cold it almost had a crisp edge to it. She was fighting to come out scraping at everything inside me. I couldn’t hold her back anymore. I screamed as each bone in my body began to crack transforming into her. I could feel my skin being torn apart as she took over. I had never felt such pain in my life. I dug my hand into the dirt and watched as gray fur began to take its place. I could feel my jaw reshaping itself and I looked up at the moon and howled.
“Now let me show you my side of the story. What you think you know is all lies.” I heard a voice but looked around to find no one. 71Please respect copyright.PENANA2zJ5wppoc5
