I wake up with a need to run. I open my window and jump out, before running towards the woods. Soon after that, I enter the forest and my body pulsates. I fall to the ground seething in pain.
Don’t fight it, embrace it. We are shifting… breathe.
At the sound of Rage’s voice, I take a deep breath and release, repeatedly as my bones pop and break and rearrange. Once the pain subsides, I lift my head and howl into the night.
When the howl fades in the distance, I notice it’s a blood moon. My ears and nose are bombarded with new sounds and smells. Excitement flares in my very soul.
This is amazing! I admit.
The time is now, let’s run! Exclaims Rage.
After running for a while, I notice Kayzen in my pathway. I try to slow down but fail as I come sliding towards him, I leap in the air and tumble in the air, sliding back a few feet once I land.
I stand still panting when he speaks, “Wow what a beautiful wolf.”
I glance over myself seeing my crimson color and twin tails. I look back towards him and nod, before turning away and running again. After running for a while longer I smack into a black wolf. He growls and turns towards me.
Jayson? I ask when I see his storm-colored eyes.
Val? He responds to me, stopping his growl. He tilts his head. You… you’re red… I’ve never seen a red wolf before. Even red-headed people never have red wolves.
Why are you here? I inquire.
I heard and smelled a new wolf. I came to check it out. I thought it might be an intruder. He explains.
Since when do we get intruders on the calling? I mean, we are here to get our wolves, aren’t we? I ask.
He shakes his head. You are as big as any alpha, maybe even bigger. You seem more powerful though… like you are a special wolf. Nothing I’ve ever seen, although, I have heard legends about a red wolf, I never put it to thought.
You aren’t afraid of me, are you, big bro? I mock.
I’d never admit that. Jayson smirks.
I roll my eyes. Of course, you wouldn’t. You don’t want to show weakness as future alpha.
Let’s go run together. What do you say, Val? He begs.
I think we should head back. We can run more when we have other wolves to run with us. Kayzen will seek me out soon. I almost ran right into him but leaped over just in time. I’d say I have quite the reflexes. He’ll want to tell me about his joining with his wolf. I state.
He's getting his wolf. Two in just a day at camp. That’s a record. I wonder if Lils will be next. Wouldn’t it be great if we were… never mind? He looks away then back. You need to be careful about your wolf. People will try to steel you away if you aren’t. IF I am correct on you being the legendary wolf, people are going to want to leave their mates for you.
Jay, I’m fine, really. I will be cautious for you though Mr. Alpha to be. I say on a serious note.
I start heading in the direction of the camp when I hear some rustling. I slow my pace; something just doesn’t feel right. My ears and eyes dart around me looking for anything out of place. That’s when I realize I have wandered into another pack’s territory. I begin to panic. Within a matter of seconds, I am surrounded by 8 wolves. I have 2 in front, 2 in back and 2 on each side of me. I panicked even more.
Who are you and to which pack do you belong, thief? A dark brown wolf growls, stepping forward.
I’m not a thief… I got distracted on my way back to the calling camp. I wasn’t paying attention. I’ve only gotten my wolf yesterday. I mean it… honest. I say, taking a step back and lowering myself to the ground.
A liar now too… no one has ever gotten their wolf and transformed the next day. The brown male wolf, states.
You know as well as I, that each pairing is different. I’m no thief and I’m not a liar either. I don’t mean any disrespect. I say laying my head flat on the ground.
You must be a rogue then, since you didn’t give us your name, rank, or pack. A light grey wolf says.
I belong to the Silver Moon Pack. I’m only 16. I’ve got no rank as I am the alpha in trainings younger sister. My brother is Jayson White. Please this is just a misunderstanding. I am being honest here. I was raised on honesty. I plead.
If you aren’t a thief, how’d you acquire the prince’s key? The grey wolf asks.
Lola, enough. We will take her with us to see alpha Braixon and Luna Rossja. The dark brown wolf says.
You are taking me to the crimson castle? To meet the royal wolves? I really shouldn’t… my brother will be looking for me. I try to step back but am snapped at by one of the wolves behind me.
You trespassed onto our land and are wearing a royal heirloom. You must be dealt with accordingly. The dark brown wolf says.
“Rowan, leave her be.” A male voice stops us. A smooth silky voice.
Rowan, the dark brown wolf, shifts. I quickly turn away from him to see the man who spoke.
Rowan sighs, “Xayne, your majesty, she crossed our border without invitation and is wearing your necklace that has been missing for ten years. She must be dealt with.”
The one called Xayne, turns towards me and smiles. If I wasn’t in wolf form, I’d be blushing. He’s about 6’4”, tan from the shadows casted upon him, dark almost jet-black hair, and very muscular. His almond eyes are his best feature. He is Alpha, or rather, prince material. I bow my head as he approaches, to show respect.
He lifts the necklace, “You need not bow to me. That is if you are Valyrie White.”
“You know her?” Rowan asks.
“This necklace was never lost or stolen. I had given it to a girl named Valyrie white, 10 years ago when my family left to our new home. We were friends… quick friends mind you. I told her to never take it off because it was a special necklace. If I remember correctly, she belongs to the silver moon pack, at least for now. She’s the daughter of the current alpha, Rixxon.” Xayne explains.
“I guess I owe the little lady an apology. She claimed her brother, Jayson White will soon be alpha of the silver moon pack. I’m sorry young lady. Xayne, she also said she got lost she apparently just joined with her wolf yesternight.” Rowan says.
“I will escort her back. I’m sure they will be searching for her. You all may go back to patrols.” Xayne sternly speaks.
“Sir.” Rowan says shifting back into wolf. They all nod before leaving.
“Valyrie… to think after so many years… I have been awaiting the time I get to see my first love again. I can’t wait to see the woman you have become, I bet you are beautiful. To think of you as my Luna, makes me happy just thinking about it.” He states. “You will be mine one way or another, even if I have to fight to the death for you.”
I stop dead in my tracks, a low growl comes out of my mouth that I was unexpecting.
“Oh my, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to upset you. I meant I want you. Red wolves are rare and special. You are meant to be royalty, to be mine. Why else would we have been brought back together?” he established. “I can’t wait to join with my wolf now.”
I shift not caring that I’m naked, “Only the Goddess can pair true mates. You can’t just lay claims to me without even experiencing the mate bond first. I don’t know what caused you to be so power hungry, but it’s not the reason I liked you in the first place. Just because you will be the king someday doesn’t mean I will automatically be yours, nor does it mean you will be a good king or alpha of alphas.”
“That may be true… even with the fact that I will be leader of all wolves, the requirements of me are different than with other alphas. I have so much I need to do and focus on, and with you by my side, it would make things easier.” He explains stopping and looking me over. “You are more beautiful than I expected we would have beautiful babies.”
“UGH, Xayne, you won’t have to shoulder all that responsibility yourself, it doesn’t matter who your Luna is… they are required to help and support their mate and the pack with their mate. She will always be there to help and support you in any way you need her to. That’s why every wolf is given a mate. The Goddess knows which wolf would best compliment you. You can’t just lay claims on someone that isn’t your mate. It doesn’t work that way. I’ll be happy with whom I am given as should you.” I say with determination.
“You are the red wolf we’ve been searching for. You will love and heal as well as lead us into a time of peace and prosperity. You are a royal wolf, so why would you not belong to me? It was promised.” He explains.
“Just because you were promised, doesn’t mean it will be in this lifetime. It’s different than being taken.” I shift before continuing the way we were heading. Xayne sighs before catching up to me and leading me back to camp. The rest of the walk was silent. Once we arrive, we are greeted by an extremely worried Jayson along with Lilly and Kayzen.
