My name is Zack Kelly. I guess you could say this is the beginning of my story. This isn't a nice story, it may appear that way at first but believe me things spiral out of control beyond belief. There is heartbreak, sadness, betrayal. All those things you experience, but intensified tenfold. And all of these things are my fault, I caused all of this pain. It all began with this same re occurring dream.
And every few weeks I have had this same dream, for as long as I can remember. I don't know why, the people in it, are strangers. It's always the same, it never changes. I feel like it's something more, but I can't be too sure. Dreams are one of the strangest things of the human mind. I don't know why, but I feel like it is supposed to mean something, like I'm supposed to figure something out, but I never can. Today is my fifteenth birthday, and this is the very beginning of my new life...
It always starts the same. I'm in a car seat, I don't know how old, and for some reason, I'm always crying. I've never found out why, never had any differences in the dream. It's never begun, or lasted any longer.
There's always this really pretty woman looking back at me, I know that she always looks like she's about to cry, and I can never understand what she's saying. But, I trust her. For whatever reason. I have never seen her outside of this dream.
Then there's the man, who's driving. He doesn't look back, so I've never seen his face, but I'm sure I don't know him. That's when he slams on the brakes. Then both of them get out of the car, leaving me all alone crying.
There is a man that they talk with, like always. He looks dangerous, shaved head, goatee, leather jacket, and a scowl that says 'I've killed men.' He scares the hell out of me, especially when he points directly at me, and looks into my eyes. The woman steps between us, blocking my view of him. It looks like she begs for something. The man looks reluctant, but nods. Before the driver tries to punch him, the man quickly blocks, and shoves the driver to the ground.
Then he grabs the woman's arm, and this portal thing made out of black smoke appears, I swear. I'm not crazy, he drags the woman through it, and then it disappears. That's when I wake up, every time. I don't know what to make of it...
An Unbreakable Bond.
"Happy birthday!" Phil and Brenda Kelly yell to their fifteen year old son. Phil has black hair, and matching eyes. Brenda has light brown hair, and blue eyes. Zack, their son has black hair, and deep, honest blue eyes.
Zack yawns and rubs his eyes, lazily. Then he stops, and blinks several times, before looking at both his parents. He smiles slightly.
"Thanks." He says, then yawns again. "When's breakfast going to be ready?" He asks. Phil and Brenda exchange a look.
"Soon love. We'll leave you to get ready. Your friends said they would be over soon." Brenda said, before messing up his hair, he glared at her and swatted her hand away. Then tried to smooth out his shoulder length black hair.
"Okay, just stop treating me like a baby." Zack complained, Brenda pinched his cheek.
"I'm going to do whatever I please thank you. Because I love you." Brenda told him.
"Okay, hon. Stop torturing the poor kid." Phil said, putting his hand on his wife's back. She let go of Zack's cheek then walked out of the room with Phil. Zack huffed, and fell back on his bed, like a rag doll. He stayed like that for a few seconds before pushing himself up and getting ready for the day. He fixed his hair so that it was parted down the middle like usual, and then grabbed his white hoodie, with blue stars and skull designs of it.
He then walked downstairs to see two of his friends sitting around the living room like they owned the place, and his parents in the kitchen preparing breakfast. Zack was first greeted by Jarcus. The comedian of the group. Green eyes, wind-swept brown hair, and a dark green hoodie.
"Hey, Fag, what the Fuck I thought you and Janice were together." Jarcus said, Zack glared at him, shaking his head.
"No. I haven't made a move yet, but today is the day." Zack said confidently. Jarcus slung his arm over Zack's shoulder.
"Good, because she's been begging for my dick, like every day." Jarcus said, Zack glared at him. And pushed him away.
"Some things are off limits man. Janice is one of them." Zack said, anger taking root in his voice, Jarcus smiled and raised his hands in mock defeat.
"Fine, fine. But seriously happy birthday man." Jarcus said, handing Zack ten dollars.
"Thanks bro. didn't have to do that, you know my rule." Zack said, Jarcus thought for a moment.
"No anal sex before noon?" Jarcus asked, Zack laughed and shook his head.
"Not that one. You've probably already broke that rule today anyway." Zack said, Jarcus nodded.
"True, true. No lynching of children before eleven?" Jarcus said, Zack laughed.
"Never would be a rule." Zack told him, Jarcus nodded. "I mean not fussing over me for my birthday." Zack said, Jarcus shrugged.
"I don't mind man." Jarcus said, before sighing. "Dammit, I do mind give me that back." Jarcus ordered, holding out his hand, and putting a scowl on his face, Zack shakes his head.
"Fuck you." Zack said, Jarcus smiled.
"Do it. Bitch." Jarcus said, Zack shook his head.
"I'm not gay, but Fuck it." Zack said, then the two of them laughed, when they were interrupted by somebody coughing. They turn to see Stacey, Jarcus' girlfriend staring at them.
"Mr. Kelly, I haven't gotten a hug from the birthday boy yet!" Stacey complained, with her hands on her hips, Zack laughed in a guilty way, and hugged her. Stacey had long brown hair, with a strand of green hanging down, and brown eyes.
"Sorry Stacey. Hey, do you know where Janice is?" Zack asked, with a concerned look. Janice lived on the rich side of town. Zack's parents weren't exactly poor, but they weren't rich either. Janice's mom is a famous chef with several cookbooks, and her own cooking show that's supposed to start in a month or so. She also owns a jewelry store, she works there from time to time, but not usually.
"Sorry Zack. She said she had things to do. I told her what was happening, but she still wouldn't come. I'm sorry." Stacey said, before hugging him again, he smiled.
"That's okay, I'm sure it's important." Zack said cheerfully. But inside he was saddened, this showed in his eyes.
"Zack, you should know that your eyes can't lie." Stacey told him, he frowned.
"I'm that obvious?" Zack asked sadly, Stacey smiled and kissed his cheek.
"Don't worry about it." Stacey told him, with her sweetest smile.
"If I didn't know any better, I'd think you're trying to steal my girl." Jarcus said, Zack laughed.
"Well, I don't think so. I wouldn't do that to you. Were just friends." Zack said, Stacey smiled.
"We've been friends forever." Stacey said.
"No." Zack said, Stacey gave him a wounded look. Then he smiled at her. "We're the best of friends." Zack told her, she smiled at him, and kissed his cheek again.
"You're too sweet." Stacey said, Zack smiled at her.
"Stop that! You two are freaking me out!" Jarcus complained. "Wait, let's have a three way!" Jarcus said, and a second later, Stacey smacked him.
"You know I'm celibate! And besides there's only one person I'd even consider trusting enough to break my vow." Stacey said, crossing her arms, and looking superior, with a smirk.
"Oh yeah and who's that? Zack?" Jarcus asked. Zack stammered.
"No. It's Janice." Stacey said, Jarcus thought about the image. He and Zack looked at each other.
"Oh... My... God... Yes..." Zack and Jarcus said together, when Stacey smacked both of them upside the head.
"You perverts! I'm kidding!" Stacey yelled, Zack and Jarcus laughed awkwardly.
"You know what, now that you brought it up, it would be really weird to date you." Zack said, Stacey glared at him.
"And why would that be?" Stacey demands. Zack laughs nervously as she backs him into a corner.
"Well, it's just I've known you since we were little kids, were best friends." Zack defended, Stacey sighed.
"You really are an idiot." Stacey said, before kissing Zack's cheek. "But I guess you're my idiot." Stacey said. Jarcus looked offended.
"I thought I was your idiot!" Jarcus complained. Stacey laughed.
"You are. But Zack is special. We've known each other since pre-k, and lived next door to each other our entire lives." Stacey told him.
"Have you seen each other naked?" Jarcus asked, Stacey looked at Zack, who shrugged.
"Actually, yeah. We have. Not fully, he's seen my breasts, and let's just say I know for a fact that he's well endowed." Stacey said, not even blushing.
"How are you not affected by that? You don't seem ashamed or embarrassed." Jarcus said.
"Like I said, we've been friends forever. I'm not embarrassed, its happened like five times." Stacey said, Zack nodded.
"I really need to not look out my window at night..." Zack said, rubbing his neck awkwardly.
"I really don't mind. It's just skin really." Stacey said.
"Does that mean I can see?" Jarcus asked, and Stacey smacked him. "Ow! You're so abusive! Why not?" Jarcus asked, taking a step back so she can't hit him.
"Because you are a pervert. Not my best friend." Stacey said firmly. Zack smiled.
"Oh, what a cop out. Just because we're dating I can't see?" Jarcus asked.
"Yup. Pretty much." Stacey said simply. When Brenda walked into the room.
"Hey, you three, come to the table, Breakfast is ready." Brenda said, well more like ordered them. The three teenagers sat at the table, as Brenda served them their plates. Moments later the door opened.
Dethunter walked in, he had short dirty blonde hair, and blue eyes. Alongside Kathrina, she wore glasses, and her black hair was cut to her shoulders, and had blue eyes. She glared at Dethunter.
"Don't mind me, I'm not with him actually." Kathrina said, walking away from Dethunter, and hugging Zack.
"Glad you could make it Kathrina. You too Dethunter." Zack greeted.
"Wouldn't miss it for the world buddy." Dethunter said, as he sat down at the table, alongside Kathrina. Brenda put plates in front of them.
"Thank you." Kathrina said to the mother, who brushed her off.
"No need to thank me." Brenda said firmly before walking back into the kitchen.
"Hey, did you guys run into Janice on the way here?" Zack asked, trying to hide the desperation in his voice, but failing.
"No, we didn't. I'm sorry." Kathrina said. Zack frowned and nodded.
"Okay, that's fine. Just wondering..." Zack trailed off, as he stabbed his food with a fork, he had a distant, sad look on his face.
"Seriously, where is she?" Stacey asked, pulling out her phone. She texted her best friend, explaining the situation.
"Stacey you don't have to do that." Zack told her, she glared at him.
"Yes I do, she is late!" Stacey defended. Zack sighed.
"It's fine. I'm sure she has a good excuse." Zack said.
"You're too nice, and a pushover." Kathrina told him, Zack looked at her, and glared.
"Oh, I am not. Shut it you." Zack said, Kathrina waved him off.
"So, Dethunter is your friend coming?" Jarcus asked, Dethunter shook his head. He lived in the next town over Precipice, and went to Precipice High, while all the others lived in Winniplex, and attended Winniplex High.
"No. Toni said she didn't want to be around a bunch of idiot teenagers."
"Isn't she a teenager?"
"Yeah. She's not a people person." Dethunter mumbled pursing his lips. He had been trying to get his best friend Toni Hart to visit and become friends with more people but it was proving difficult.
"Isn't she gay?" Kathrina asked, Dethunter nodded.
"Yup. She is. I wouldn't lead with that if you meet her." Dethunter told her, she shrugged.
"Have you ever seen her make out with a girl?" Jarcus asked, Dethunter nodded.
"Yeah, a couple times. Last time it was the New Year's party at Precipice Community College, she made out with this Kiana girl." Dethunter told him, Jarcus nodded.
"How hot was it?" Jarcus asked.
"It was awkward really, I mean she's my best friend." Dethunter told him, Jarcus shrugged.
"Still sounds pretty fucking sexy..." Jarcus trailed off, Stacey looked away from her phone to glare at him.
"Shut the fuck up." Stacey told him simply, before turning back to her phone. She had been texting Janice, but she wasn't responding at all.
"Stacey its fine, just forget it. If she doesn't want to come she won't come." Zack told her, she looked up at him with a frown on her face.
"I know, but it just sucks! She should fucking be here already!" Stacey yelled, Zack nodded, Kathrina frowned.
"I agree, but there's nothing we can do about it." Kathrina told them simply, they both nodded. The doorbell rang, Brenda went to answer it.
She opened the door to see a teenage girl. She had light brown hair, and emerald green eyes, she was wearing a pink hoodie, and black skinny jeans, and a pair of light pink converse. The girl smiled up at Brenda.
"Hey, Mrs. Kelly." The girl greeted her, Brenda smiled at the girl.
"Hey Janice, how are you today?" Brenda asked, letting the young girl inside. She noticed that Janice had a small black bag in her hand.
"I'm good. Where is everyone?" Janice asked her, Brenda pointed to the dining room, Janice nodded respectfully to her, and walked into the dining room, Brenda returned to the kitchen to help Phil with the food for the party later.
Zack perked up when he saw Janice, she smiled sweetly at him, and made her way over to him, she hugged him.
"Hey, sorry I'm late." Janice told him, with a small smile on her face, he smiled up at her, as she took the seat next to him.
"It's fine Janice, but where were you?" Zack asked her, she held up the black bag.
"I was busy picking this up. It's your present." She told him, smiling as a light blush formed on her face.
"Thanks, you didn't have to do that though." Zack told her, she rolled her eyes.
"Yes I did! It's almost been two years since we met. I had to do something big." Janice said, Stacey gave her a slight smirk.
"I don't like people making a fuss over my birthday." Zack deadpanned, she rolled her eyes.
"I don't care Zack. I already did it, so deal with it." She said, irritation lacing her normally sweet voice, Zack smiled at her. "Actually come on. I want it to be the first present you open." Janice told him, standing up, and grabbing his hand, he blushed.
"Are you sure?" Zack asked her, she rolled her eyes, and started dragging him away, all the others exchanged looks. "Why can't I open it at the table?" Zack questioned her.
"Because it's…" She stopped, before blushing. "It's personal Zack." She told him, looking back with a sincere smile, Zack shrugged as she dragged him up to his room, she closed ad locked the door once they were both inside the room. They sat on the bed, their knees touched and both of them blushed.
"So, um…" Zack trailed off awkwardly, Janice smiled at him, and shoved the bag towards him.
"Open it." She ordered him, he took the bag and opened it tentatively. He pulled out three dark blue boxes. Each box had a golden 'Z' engraved on it, he gave her a quizzical look. "My parents own a jewelry store, I can personalize things, that's actually why I was so late." Janice explained, Zack nodded.
He opened the medium sized box first, to see an expensive looking watch, it was pure white, with sapphires engrained above the numbers. He furrowed his eyebrows.
"How much did this cost?" Zack asked her, slightly glaring at her.
"It didn't cost me anything! Remember my parents own a jewelry store." Janice reminded him, he nodded.
"Still cost someone money."
"Just shut up and thank me for the damn watch." Janice demanded, Zack smiled at her, before closing the box and placing it on his bedside table.
"Thank you for the watch." He told her, she smiled, satisfied with his words. Before she grabbed the smallest box and handed it to him, he opened it to see a ring, pure white, with a large sapphire in it.
"I know you wanted a ring for the longest time. Decided to get you the best!" Janice exclaimed, Zack smiled at her and pulled her into a hug. Before closing the box and putting it next to the watch on his bedside table. Janice handed him the longest box.
"Is it a necklace?" Zack asked her, she nodded.
"Yeah, but Zack…" Janice started placing her hand over his before he could open the box. He looked at her concerned. "It's just… I… Just don't hate me please, no matter what." Janice said, looking down at her hands, Zack smiled at her, and lifted her chin with his hand.
"What's up Jan?" He asked, she shook her head.
"Nothing. Open the box…" She said, uneasily, Zack gave her a skeptical look, but opened the box to see a pure white necklace with his name engraved in it. He lifted it out of the box to look at it, he smiled. "Turn it over." Janice told him, he did as she asked, and turned it over, he saw several words engraved on it. 'To the Love of my life, Zack. Love Janice.' Zack looked up at Janice, who was blushing.
"Do you like it?" Janice asked, extremely self-conscious, Zack just pursed his lips. Before smiling, and placing his hand on her shoulder, her gaze snapped up to him.
"I love it Janice… And… I'm actually glad you feel that way." Zack told her, she gave him a weary look.
"Do you really?" Janice asked him, he nodded at her.
"Of course. I was actually going to tell you today."
"So, you felt the same way and you still waited this long to tell me?"
"Yeah..?" Zack half asked her, she rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.
"You aren't nice at all."
"You waited this long." He pointed out, she sighed.
"I guess we both suck when it comes to confessing our feelings then…" Janice trailed off.
"So, what happens now?" Zack asked her. She rolled her eyes.
"You're the guy you're supposed to know these things!" She complained, he smiled at her, before slowly leaning towards her.
"Just… Tell me to stop if it gets to weird." Zack whispered, she smiled. She was terrified, but she trusted Zack more than anyone else on this planet, she wanted this to happen. She started to lean forward too, and when they kissed it was everything they had been expecting.
"Does this mean we're together now?" Janice asked him, he smiled at her.
"I guess…" He muttered, she giggled, and moved her thumb to his lips.
"You have some of my lipstick on you." Janice told him fondly, he laughed at her antics, just as the door burst open, to reveal a girl with long blonde hair, and a bandana tied on her head, she had large blue eyes coupled with a mischievous smile.
"Hey, hope I'm not interrupting anything." She said, with a knowing look, Zack rolled his eyes.
"May, go back downstairs." Zack told her, with a grin, she laughed.
"Sure. By the way, nice lipstick smudge." She told him, and walked out. Closing the door behind her. She sighed, shut her eyes. Before walking back downstairs. Zack smiled at Janice.
"So, we should probably get back." Zack suggested, Janice giggled.
"You're right. We should. Let's go." Janice said, Zack grabbed the necklace and put it on. He took Janice's hand and led her down the stairs. May was in his spot, eating food off his plate.
"Zack baby, we'll be gone for a while. We need to do some last minute shopping. Okay?" Brenda asked, Zack nodded, as Phil opened the front door.
"Okay, have fun."
"Okay son, bye. And don't do drugs." Phil told his son, Jarcus leaned back.
"But I already brought the Meth!" Jarcus exclaimed. Phil laughed and just left, shutting the door.
"Oh, Zack I brought Rhyme too!" May exclaimed, Zack gave her a look.
"Who?" Zack asked her, she pointed to a blonde girl. Two years younger than the others. She wore a grey beanie, and an oversized hoodie, and boys jeans. She had big bright blue eyes, that were concerned, and scared.
"Rhyme Melodious. She's a mute. Can't utter a peep." May told him, he nodded, and held out his hand.
"I'm Zack." He greeted, Rhyme just stared at his hand like he was going to hit her. He sighed, and pulled it back.
"So, are we going to hang children or what?" Jarcus asked, Zack shrugged.
"Sure." Zack said. Meanwhile Phil and Brenda were driving to the store.
"I got a message from him this morning. He asked about Zack." Phil said, Brenda looked at him.
"Is he going to see him?" Brenda asked, Phil shrugged.
"I don't know. He just asked about him. I thought we had more time, back then it seemed like forever. And now it's all over."
"Maybe he found a way to stop the deal?" Brenda suggested, Phil shook his head.
"No. He would have told us. I think... Oh no..." Phil muttered, stopping the car. A man stood in the middle of the road. He wore a leather jacket, and black jeans. He had a shaved head and a goatee. With a scar across his face, and a sick smirk. Phil and Brenda got out of the car. Staring at the man in utter horror. He reeked of death.
"It is time." He told them. His voice deep, and dangerous. Like it could overshadow most voices, and over power them. He was truly frightening. A man to be feared above all else. So frightening that he once shook the very heavens with his power.
