Viktor had been sitting at the table with the young woman, whose name was Emily, for several hours, chatting and getting to know each other. He had been careful not to reveal too much about himself, but he found himself drawn to her. There was something about her that reminded him of his past, of the life he had left behind.
Suddenly, they heard a loud noise outside. Viktor got up and went to the window, peering out into the darkness. He could see a car that had crashed into a shop across the street. There were flames and smoke coming from the wreckage.
He turned to Emily, who looked just as startled as he was. "Stay here," he said. "I'll go see if I can help."
He ran out of the room and across the street, dodging the debris and the flames. When he reached the car, he could see that the driver was still inside, unconscious. He could smell the scent of gasoline and blood, and he knew that he had to act quickly.
He used his strength to open the car door and pulled the driver out, laying him on the ground. He could see that the man was badly injured, his chest crushed and his head bleeding. He knew that there was nothing he could do to save him.
He looked up and saw that a crowd had gathered around them, watching in horror as the flames spread. He knew that he had to get away before anyone saw what he was capable of.
He turned to Emily, who had followed him outside. "Come on," he said, taking her hand. "We have to leave."
They ran back to the motel, where Viktor quickly packed his belongings. He knew that he had to leave town before anyone suspected that he had something to do with the accident.
As they were leaving, he saw a police car pull up outside the motel. He knew that they were looking for him.
"Stay here," he said to Emily. "I'll take care of this."
He walked out to meet the police, his heart racing. He knew that he had to be careful, that he couldn't reveal his true identity.
"Is everything all right?" he asked, trying to sound calm.
The police officer looked at him suspiciously. "We're investigating a car accident across the street," he said. "Did you see anything?"
Viktor shook his head. "No, I didn't see anything. I was just leaving town."
The police officer eyed him for a moment longer before nodding. "All right," he said. "Just be careful on the road."
Viktor watched as the police car drove away, relieved that he had escaped suspicion. He turned to Emily, who was waiting for him inside.
"We have to leave," he said. "It's not safe here anymore."
Emily nodded, looking at him with concern. "What happened out there?" she asked.
Viktor shook his head. "It doesn't matter," he said. "We have to go."
They left the motel and got into Viktor's car, driving away from the town and the memories that it held. Viktor knew that he would never forget the young man who had died in the accident, or the danger that he had narrowly escaped. But for now, he was focused on the road ahead, and the uncertain future that lay before him.
