4: The Journey
As she placed the crown upon his head and the guards were beating their staff on the floor, Anna heard something in the distance and signaled for the guards to stop. Then a gust of cold wind swept across the room, indicating that I had heard their battle cry. Anna's eyes were big, and Drake knew that something was coming. Everyone was talking and mumbling among themselves.
Everyone, please do not forget that this is the day we have worked for, and you know what to do. We must not waste any more time. Those who have heard our battle cry will be at the doorstep any minute now. We must make haste to the mountains," Anna said.
Everyone rushed to the vehicles and sped off down the dirt road, making sure that they did not waste any more precious time. Anna put her finger on her lips to make sure that Drake knew to be silent until they were in the clear. Traps They made it to the first checkpoint to set up camp, set motion sensors in any paths that the enemy might come from, and also set booty traps to give them time to escape from the enemy.
Anna was looking at the maps to see where the enemy was and what routes were safe and which were not. She had to be very careful when making decisions like these because one false move could cost her life or even death, which she doesn't. She motioned for Drake to be summoned into her tent, and she nervously walked in, politely bowing his head down in a sign of respect.
"At ease, Drake. No need to be formal with me. You're still my husband after all, aren't you? "She said it with a smile and a chuckle at the end.
He looked back at her with a little smile on his face, but she could see that he was still having doubts about everything.
"Drake, please sit down. I can see that you are uneasy about all of this and that you are doubting your destiny and everything that you stand for. Do you want to tell me why you doubt your fate?" Anna asked with calmness in her tone.
He could see that she still cared for him, but that did not change the fact that she had lied to him and kept him in the dark about everything that had been going on while they locked him up.
"I need to know why you have kept this from me and why I was being treated like your prisoner, locked up in a cage with chains on my hands and feet and being fed bread and water," he asked.
First, you were in a room, not a prison. I had given you multiple chances to see the truth, but you were blinded by your pride and stubbornness to see it. Second, I try to tell you that I am not your enemy. If I were your enemy, you would have been dead a long time ago or still in chains, and again, be careful with what words you choose next," Anna said with harshness in her voice.
"Why should I choose my next words carefully so they can lock me back in chains or, even worse, not eat for days? I just want to know why all the secrecy is between us." Drake asked, tears coming down his face.
"If I had told you this long ago, you would not have listened just like tight now you think of me as your enemy but not as your wife, you are still blinded by the past that you cannot even see the truth and will not see what's your true destiny," Anna said in shock, and she began to sink in her chair.
She motioned for him to be shown into his tent to wait for his orders or something. For so long, Drake was silent. He did not sleep or even eat; he was just staring at the floor with his hands in his lap and his feet crossed.
"Take it easy, Anna. He will come. "He just needs time to come to his senses," said Rachel. The one Drake saw got executed right in front of him.
"Yes, but time is what we do not have right now. We cannot wait until he is ready. We need to push him harder if we are to complete the mission on time, Anna said.
Please give me a few minutes to talk to him, and I will talk to him to try to make this easy for both of you. If he is ready, then we will start it the right way, but if not, we will do it the hard way, as Rachel said.
"I will give you six minutes if he does not come to his senses. By then, we will begin the process, no matter what it takes to make him see the truth," Anna said.
Rachel walked to Drake's side of the camp, and he slowly lifted his head to see Rachel's beautiful complexion, and then he slowly looked back down. She could sense that everything was still troubling him, so she took a seat next to him.
"You know Drake, everything happens for a reason, and whatever reason your wife Anna and our leader had for keeping you in the dark, it was only for your protection and for keeping you safe," she said with a smoothness in her tone.
"Then why all the secrecy or being in the dark, and why am I hearing about this just right now, and why are all of you not dead because I saw you guys get killed right before me?" Drake said it with a sad voice.
"The Order has existed for centuries and has been protecting the ones who cannot fight, and what you saw that day at the altar was an image of what the government wants you to do, but your wife has found a way to break the government's hold, but that will not happen unless you expect your fate and destiny. Did you know that you are next in command once you have completed your training and assignments and that people will respect you as long as you show them that you are not weak and you are the boss?" she said
"How long have you been in the program?" he asked.
"I have been in the program since your wife told me that there is a war coming and she needs people who are willing to fight and who are willing to help those who cannot fight. All I am asking is that you give your wife the benefit of the doubt and work with her, or give her grace like she has given you so many times. It was hard for her to put you through this, but she had no choice; it was either leave you in the wrong hands and watch you die or take the chance and make you a part of her. Yet I was kept in the dark, and she kept it from me all this time while I was being treated unfairly," he said.
They both got up and walked to Anna's tent, and Anna shook her head in acknowledgment that it was time for his training right now.
"If you have questions or any doubts, now is your chance to speak up, because once your training begins, you will not speak unless spoken to. One day you will know that what I had to do was for your good and your safety, and that I made sure that you did not fall into the wrong hands. You will follow my commands and be second in line for my position. Once you are done and have completed it, we will complete every assignment. You will take the first charge as second in command, making sure that everything is perfect," Anna said.
He nodded in understanding, but she could still see the sadness in his eyes as he tried to hold it back. She motioned for Rachel to start right away
