Cobalt Grayson was born in an alleyway in Manhattan's slums. His mother, a young girl of seventeen, raised him on her own, teaching him how to survive on the streets, as she couldn't afford to send him to traditional school. His mother was targeted by the Mott Haven Murderers when he was seven, and she was killed shortly thereafter.
When he was nine, Cobalt was recruited by a different gang, the "Burning Sabers", for his savvy and cunning on the streets. Azael was recruited not long after. They instantly hit it off and helped each other when times got tough. They were inducted into the poison department and came up with powerful concoctions.
When he was sixteen, he and nine other gang members were sent on a mission to kill seven of the Mott Haven crew. The boys cornered the rivals into an alleyway, shooting and killing all but one of the Mott Haven Murderers. The last member of the Mott Haven team was shot in the arm. Three of Cobalt's team were shot and killed by this last boy. The rest of Cobalt's team fled, and Cobalt attacked the final boy. The boy shot him in the leg and Cobalt slashed the stranger across the face with his knife. The boy kneed Cobalt in the groin, then fled the scene.
Cobalt stumbled back to the warehouse that night and told the gang leader what had happened. Coke Collins, the boy who had lived, became the most wanted gang member anywhere on the island of Manhattan, while Cobalt rose to fame as the boy who hadn't run. He needed a prosthetic leg after he was shot, but news of that never spread.
Years passed, however, and with the years, his fame faded into the background. He and Azael became engaged, the Burning Sabers replaced the Mott Haven Murderers as the most feared gang in Manhattan. But, soon after Cobalt turned twenty one, rumors began to spread.
Coke Collins lead the Mott Haven Murderers now. And he was after Cobalt's head.
