Arabella spoke up, “Doctor, I was wondering how long it will take for Nate’s penile cancer test results to come out?”
The doctor looked at his notes and then back up at Arabella. “It takes about a week to receive the results of the biopsy. However, sometimes, it can take up to two weeks, depending on the complexity of the case and the lab workload.”
Arabella nodded, taking in the information. “Thank you, Doctor. Is there anything we can do during this waiting period to prepare or to help speed up the process?”
“Well, it’s important to take good care of yourself during this time, both physically and emotionally. You may also want to make sure that your insurance and paperwork are in order, and that you have a support system in place if needed. As for speeding up the process, unfortunately, we have little control over the timing of lab results. All we can do is keep following up and keep you informed as soon as the results are available.”
Arabella nodded again, feeling slightly relieved. She asked the doctor when Nate should undergo these tests. And if there is a specific timeline they should follow?
“We’d like to proceed with the tests as soon as possible to get a comprehensive understanding of the cancer’s stage. However, we also want Nate to be prepared. So, we’ll work with your schedules to find a suitable date for the tests. In the meantime, I recommend you both gather questions you have so we can address them during the process.”
“Can you tell us what tests needed to be done to find what stage I am in and what treatment was used to cure it?” Nate asks opening the notebook he had brought with him.
“To determine the stage of the penile cancer, Nate will need to undergo a few tests. The primary tests would include Physical Examination, Biopsy, and Imaging Tests such as MRI, CT scans, or ultrasound to get a clearer picture of any tumour growth and check if cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes or other organs.”
“We will also need to do blood and Urine Tests: Blood tests can help us assess overall health and check for specific markers related to cancer. You can also do your semen test if you want to store your semen before the treat meant began, if you want to make sure that it won’t affect your children’s future. However, I don’t think you need to do that.”
“I am wondering if there are any specific conditions he needs to be aware of before the test,” Arabella asked.
“For the evaluation, Nate, I’d advise you to avoid any sexual activity or the use of topical creams on the area at least 24 hours before the test. This ensures accurate results. Also, it’s essential for Nate to be well-hydrated before the test. Drinking plenty of water can help with the examination and provide more accurate information.”
“Okay, I will be sure to follow your instruction,” Nate said while writing the instruction given by the doctor.
“Is there anything I should avoid eating or doing before the evaluation?”
“To ensure accurate results, Nate should avoid eating foods that may cause dehydration or excessive bloating. So, it’s best to steer clear of salty, spicy, or heavily processed foods. A light, balanced meal should be sufficient.”
“Here is the list of all the tests and instructions you need to follow during and after the test,” the doctor said while passing him the small manual to them.
“So, when should we come for the test?” Arabella asks taking the manual from the doctor.
“I think we should start with a Physical examination from tomorrow first, as we move forward I will advise you to do tests as needed. The manual I have given you has all the information you may be needed to know,” The doctor said, smiling at them.
“Thanks for the advice, Doctor,” Nate said with a big smile on his face.
“You’re welcome, Nate. I know this can be a challenging time, but we’re here to support you every step of the way. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask.”
“Thank you, Doctor Matthews. We appreciate your care and guidance. We will see you tommorrow,” Arabella said while stretching her hand towards the doctor.
“It’s my pleasure. We’ll do our best to make this process as comfortable as possible for both of you.” Doctor Matthew gave her hand a light shake.
After consulting the doctor, Arabella and Nate walk out of the office with huge smiles on their faces. As soon as Nate takes to get inside the car, he slumps down in his seat feeling an immense burden taken from his shoulder. He closed his eyes for a few minutes, taking a deep breath.
“Are you okay?” Arabella asked, fidgety. On her seat, worrying that something had happened to him when she saw him slump down on his seat.
“Yeah, just feeling relieved that there is still hope for me for becoming a father,” Nate said, his eyes still closed.
Arabella wanted to reprimand him for worrying about being a father rather than worrying about his health. But decided on not doing it knowing how much he wanted to be a father. Nate composes himself and drives them home.
Arabella goes to the kitchen to prepare lunch for them, while Nate goes to his study deciding to work from home instead of the office until the test results come. Nate take the manual out and start reading it and making notes in his mind until Arabella called him for lunch.
The following day, Nate parked the car and looked at Arabella, who was sweating and fidgeting in her seat. Nate holds her hand and gives her a light squeeze.
“It’s going to be okay,” Nate said with a light smile on his face.
Not wanting to make him more worried than he already was, Arabella nodded and smiled at him. Both of them get out of the car and walk towards the testing centre.
