Elio shook his head and entered the monorail car, looking out of place with his worn boots and long frayed coat against the slick town suits of the Niveian aristocracy who had come to their little snow globe to blow away a year’s worth of wages for most people in the galaxy. Rayan muttered something in Chikauaki. The ride would take less than two minutes, thanks to the high-speed train that served to separate wealthy gamblers from their not-so-hard-earned money. Elio took this opportunity to double-check the bounty, he pushed his jacket cuff up and tapped the screen of his watch and the bounty came up. “Corvin Kennet, age 34, native of Ebos, WANTED FOR: Embezzlement, Fraud, Evading Arrest, Racketeering, and Conspiracy. Description: Short male, balding, last seen with brunette hair and brown eyes, son of the colonial governor of Ebos. WANTED ALIVE.”
The train slowly glided to a stop as the words “LAKE DISTRICT” appeared on the train screen. The two men and some other gamblers exited the train and walked down some steps to the street below. Elio was immediately reminded of why he didn’t like this place, packs of drunken men roamed the streets with no decency, prostitutes openly lined the streets, and he could smell the faint sour stench of vomit however to a first-time visitor, the gleaming casinos and charmingly lit avenues would truly be a sight to behold.
“Ley said that the Nebula Club was this way,” said Rayan, gesturing towards an intersecting street.
Elio adjusted his coat, making sure that his weapons were hidden from sight and the two men crossed the street.
Leora entered the gaudy drinking club with Ana and looked around, opulent figures huddled in cramped booths, talking and laughing underneath the large crystal chandeliers.
“Let’s split up, If you find him, let me know, the boys should be here soon,” Leora said
Ana nodded and went off, Leora leaned against the large circular bar in the center of the room. The bartender immediately noticed her.
“What’s your poison ma’am?” asked the bartender
“Whiskey and soda”
“Right away” the bartender turned around to mix her drink. Leora glanced around the club again, she saw Ana involved in a game of billiards with a few distinguished-looking gentlemen.
The bartender placed a dark effervescent drink garnished with an orange twist in front of her.
“Thanks, sugar” Leora said
“So what’s a pretty little thing like you doing all alone in the big city?” asked the bartender
Leora took a sip of her drink, enjoying the cold bitterness washing over her tongue
“I’m looking for a friend of mine here, maybe you've seen him. Kind of a short guy, greasy hair, obnoxious accent”
“Yeah I’ve seen him, he’s up in room three, Maybe you could ask him to take care of his tab once in a while” Leora chuckled “You know, it seems like this is your first time on Adamo, maybe I can show you around after I’m out of here”
“You know, I’m a little busy tonight, but I’ve got nothing tomorrow hon” Leora replied
“Really?”
“No”
The bartender scowled and turned away, Leora, pleased with herself, let out a small chuckle. She locked eyes with Ana for a small moment and gave her a small nod, Ana, understanding started to wrap up the conversation she was having. Leora walked to a small, quiet nook in the back of the bar that had a public communicator booth. She approached it and placed a coin in the slot.
[OPERATION READY, PLEASE ENTER COMMUNICATION NUMBER]
Leora, after some thought, entered a long string of numbers on the keypad.
[CODE ACCEPTED, ADAMIAN PEACEKEEPING AUTHORITY, WELCOME]
She smiled and entered the number for room three of the Nebula Club.
“Hello?” a man answered in a groggy tone
“Is this a Mr. Kennet?”
“Yes”
“Good evening, this is Officer Kalaban of the APA, I regret to inform you that a vehicle registered in your name is being impounded for multiple reports of reckless operation”
“WAIT, WHAT! I-”
“Thank you for your understanding sir, have a nice evening”
Leora clicked the receiver back into its place and walked away, satisfied with herself. A moment later she saw a short man rushing down the stairs, Mr. Kennet, she assumed. She gulped down the last sip of her drink and headed outside. As soon as Kennet exited the building, she saw Ana put a hand over his mouth and jab the barrel of a small pistol into his abdomen, forcing him into the alleyway beside the building discreetly. Leora followed and saw Ana throw him to the ground.
“Ah, Mr. Kennet, I presume,” Leora said
“Wha- who the fuck are you!?” the greasy man asked
“Well it’s simple really, see, I-”
The man had scampered to his feet and tried to run. Before she or Ana could react, a bright blue bolt illuminated the dark alleyway for an instant.
“Aagh, fuck!” screamed Kennet
Two men stepped out of the shadows, one short and fiery and the other tall and dark, with a charcoal coat who was holding a pistol.
“Mr. Helsing, just in time, I’m just getting acquainted here” Leora walked over to the man and kicked him in the face with her tall, polished boot “Mr. Castillon, If you please”
Rayan walked over to the man, placed him in a pair of handcuffs, and lifted him to his feet
“Mr. Kennet, my pleasure” Rayan bowed, mockingly
“Who the fuck are you? Do you know who I am? I’m Corvin Kenn-”
“Corvin Kennet, 34, native of Ebos, wanted for embezzlement, fraud, racketeering, and such” Ana stated
“Fucking bounty hunters, three thousand crowns to whoever sets me free”
Leora delivered a blow to the man’s face, “I don’t think any of us are especially keen on that offer, but for now, shut up and do as we say”
Rayan removed his coat and wrapped it around Kennet’s hands, obscuring his restraints, shoved him forward, and the group started moving.
