They soon learn that they have been transported back in time to the era of pirates in the Virgin Islands, around the year 1718. They are almost immediately captured by the crew of the notorious pirate Blackbeard, who is looking for the compass.
That he believes is a powerful and magical device that can control time and space. He demands that they hand over the compass, or he will kill them.
The two couples have to find a way to escape from Blackbeard and his men, and to return to their own time. They also have to adapt to the harsh and dangerous, stark situation of pirate life, such as fighting, drinking, plundering, and surviving fierce storms.

Jake: Blackbeard? The legendary pirate? This can't be real. We must be dreaming.
Blackbeard: Dreaming? Ha! "Don't ya wish!" This is as real as ye gets. And ye are in big trouble, my friends. You see, I have been looking for this compass for a long time. It is a very special and valuable item. It can take me to any place and time I desire. And thee have taken it from me.
Mia: Stolen it? No, we didn't. We found it in the museum on the cruise ship. We didn't know what it was.
Blackbeard: Cruise ship? Museum? "Blimey!" What are ye talking about? Thee are lying. Yeah, tho are spies sent by my evil enemies to sabotage my plans. Well, ye have failed. And now thee will pay the price. Give me the compass, or I will give no quarter, and kill the lot of ya.........
Leo: Wait, wait, wait. Don't kill us. We are not spies. We are just tourists from the future. We don't mean you any harm.
