Cold, black metal. Flickering blue flames. The Castle of Rin was certainly not an inviting place, esecially if you were there against your will. The air was hot and dry, and the dusk-like light strained Avis's golden eyes. She ran her left hand over the dark metal cuff on her right wrist, the short chain of her left wrist making the other cuff cut her wrist.
"Let me go!" Her voice, usually like the Kiyoshu River's cool, rippling waters, was choppy and cobwebbed, an abandoned and motheaten closet.
Screaming was futile. Nobody but the guards and other prisoners would hear her.

"Just give up, Avis."

Jessi sighed, her umber eyes dull and lifeless. "How can you say that, Jess?" She couldn't have given up that easily, she was so energetic, so happy, so strong.
"You know no one's coming. Why waste your life force? They're coming for you, soon."
The dark-skinned girl looked downcast as she sat limply in the twisted metal cage. Avis's heart was ripped, laying in pieces on the grate floor. Rin and her demons were cruel and sadistic, and willing to do anything for more power and control.
Avis knew they'd come for her, someday soon. She didn't know what powers they used, but it was strong enough to break the soul of Jessi, drain her soul out of her.
It would be there, in her. That feeling of hopelessness that consumed the weak and sad, plunging them into a tunnel of darkness, and it seems like there's no way out. Everyone's felt it, and if they haven't they will soon, and, well, no one should handle it alone.
The creak of the colossal, ornate doors coaxed Avis back to her harsh reality. Two hooded guards held spears, their sandles clicking on the metal grate floor that seperated the prisoners from a pool of rippling water. But don't be decieved, the water was boiling hot and would instantly kill anyone unfortunate enough to fall in.
The taller guard, with dreads down his back, walked over to a cage that held a small blonde figure. He reached out his spear, inseting the hooked tip into the lock, and turned it, opening the door with a click.
The other gurad reached into the cage. Avis gasped as she grasped the figure and draged them out, pulling them towards the thick, black stone door at the far end of the chamber.
"L- let go!" The figure gasped, fighting and kicking out. Without a second though, the smaller guard pressed a switch on the spear handle and as soon as it made contact with her victim's neck, a bright green jolt of energy stunned them.
"Stop that!" Avis rose to her feet, the cuffs on her wrists burning her already sore hands. The tall guard turned to her, flicking the switch on his spear.

"Quiet!" he barked, stepping over. Avis glared defiantly into th slits of his golden mask, laced with black steel.
"You'll never get my soul."
The guard sneered, "We'll see about that."
