“The Cane Catastrophe”
Well, it was the summer of 1977 and Tommy and I were performing at the Royal Albert Hall, In London, England. We were billed as Wheaton and Jenkins. Well, anyway we were performing that old song Light By The Silvery Moon. Well as Tommy and I were singing. Tommy started spinning his cane and there was a loose board as Tommy was walking across the stage and spinning our canes, the next thing I knew Tommy went down and the hooked part of the cane went down his throat. He started choking and he was on his side at first and he was trying to pull it out himself and he couldn't get it out. I guess it was caught on his tonsils or something. I started asking for help and the strongman, simply known as Vincent The Strongman. He was German and knew English pretty well. He helped Tommy out of his predicament. He got it out of Tommy's throat. We had to cancel a couple of shows until Tommy's throat was better. As soon as he was better the show went on. It was kind of funny to look back on. I still laugh a bit. I'm sure Tommy didn't think so.
