The rules are simple, since the universe has to be kept in balance, for however much hope there is on one end, there must be an equal amount of despair on the other. If a wish was granted, a curse of equal value will be casted. When the miracle of world peace was granted, there was more than meets the eye. Since millions, no billions of people are given a great burst of happiness, a great amount of equal misery must be paid for. This way, the balance is kept. But the amount of joy that is required to make an entire world happy must be balanced by the same amount of darkness to make an entire world depressed. This amount of misery must be kept within containment, in a body for example so that the world will not be destroyed by the overwhelming amount of negative energy, also commonly known as corruption. However, no one human can withstand the strife and suffering of 6 billion other human beings. This causes the corruption to divide itself amongst to every viable human to be filled to the brim with the maximum amount of negativity that they can withstand without dying. The magic number is 10,032. Exactly 10,032 people completely taking in the full effects of the corruption allows the remaining 6 billion people to live in complete happiness, never to ever feel the effects of sorrow. These people taking the effects of the corruption are called The Impurities, for obvious reasons.
The Impurities are extremely special, they have to carry our every heartbreak, every broken bone, and every tragedy that we will ever face. They don’t literally get their heart crushed nor their bone shattered, they receive it in their own ways. Since they are given such a forsaken task, the universe has to balance this curse with a blessing. They will each wield a power of their choice, not something they will literally pick but instead their subconscious chooses it for them. This powers will present itself when the time is right for them. If an Impurity is to be killed by any means, a new Impurity will be born, be it be born literally with the curse of the Impurity or passed down to an ordinary human who will be the new host of the corruption and turn into an Impurity himself or herself.
This was 90 years ago. The human gene has adapted to become stronger and thus withstand more corruption to ease the burden of The Impurities. This instead given them access to a new power. As I said earlier that if an Impurity was killed, a new Impurity will just be born, simple as that. Not anymore, with a new threshold for corruption, the Impurities can now take in more corruption without dying. Due to this, if one Impurity were to kill another with his sacred weapon, he can instead take in the corruption of the Impurity and along with it, the power. The power can be channeled two ways, either by increasing the strength of the victor’s power or gaining a weaker version of the victim’s power. Because of this, there no longer exactly 10,032. We lost track of the current number but a rough estimate give us a figure of about 7,000 or so Impurities left.
