We left our bikes in the stand in front of the school and sneaked to the side wall, we threw our bags over first and then jumped over the wall and crash-landed on the bushes of the schoolyard.
"Well, well, well, "
Spoke a voice very familiar to me.
A sense of fear washed over me and I shuddered.
I slowly lifted my head hoping it was not who I thought it was even though I was damn sure it was him.
And there I saw a tall and slim man with a receeding hair line, our annoying history teacher in flesh and blood standing looking down at me with a pleasant smile.
I felt my whole being shake with fear, the smile was creeping me out!
He only ever smiled when he was angry!
"Ms. Luna and Mr. Ryan " He paused looking at us condescendingly before he continued, "Would you mind explaining the antics that I just so happen to witness."
I and Ryan though did not exchange glances
knew what I had to do, it was up to me to get us out of this situation.
I picked up what courage was left of me and tried to look confident as I spoke " S-sir, you see-"
But he cut me off, "I will be informing your homeroom teacher of what I have witnessed, you may take your leave."
With that he walked off, leaving me and Ryan flabbergasted.
"Luna I'm sorry to say this, but I think we are fucked." stated Ryan, and I could not agree more.
I could not think of any excuses or tricks to diffuse the ticking time bomb in our hands.
We took a while to calm ourselves and stared at the teacher as he made his way into the school building.
I sighed knowing we would be punished for this, "damn this rotten luck"
I muttered under my breath.
I turned to look at Ryan who looked much more serious than I.
I felt pity for him, his mother was very strict, if she knew about this I could very well predict what would happen to him.
I patted his shoulder and gave him a smile hoping to reassure him.
We picked up and dusted our bags and lethargically started making our way out of the school yard, when suddenly above the school grounds emerged a beaming light sphere, which blinded me for a moment.
Then from the light sphere emerged a silhouette of a human with two wings.
Soon the light dissipated to reveal a woman with two large white wings plated in gold, the luxurious robes that she covered herself with fluttered in the air accompanied by the veil that covered her.
Her long hair seemingly made of liquid gold cascaded around her.
Her eyes resembled yellowish-green tourmaline and her face seemed to be carved from the moon.
She was covered in diamonds, gold, platinum, and so many more luxuries.
She radiated elegance and beauty.
She was captivating.
I got lost in her beauty as she opened her mouth and started speaking, her voice was nothing but a melody and an enamouring one at that, one you would want to get lost in forever.
But she was speaking a different language; soon she stopped and was looking at something invisible and muttering to herself.
But deep down in me, I could not tell why but I hated her and resented her.
Then she spoke again, "I greet you. You puny humans, life till now must have been easy for you all, living with no care or danger, living your lives blissfully so." She spoke condescendingly as her face contorted to a look of disgust and ridicule and yet I could not help but feel she was mesmerizing.
"But it's time to start paying for your existence you little shits," she said threateningly.
"Well, then shall we begin?" She said with a bright smile, more blinding than the sun ."Be grateful because even in your death you will serve a greater purpose than any of your ancestors might ever have" She said admonishingly.
I looked at her in awe, and I slowly started making sense of what she had just said. Pay for our existence? What kind of bullshit is this?
As I pondered she continued with her speech floating in the bright blue sky being slowly flooded with clouds.
"The first trial shall start now, you can not escape as there is a barrier placed around you, you have an hour and your assignment is to kill a living being by then." She gave a dazzling smile.
"I wish you luck."
Following the sentence a blue window-like thing popped up in front of me, as if on cue.
It had a timer running, counting down from 60 minutes, and below it was the information of the trial. It stated:
Trial 1: Kill a living being before the timer runs out.
Failure: Death
I was surprised, no I was questioning my sanity. I turned around to look at Ryan he too looked as perplexed as me.
What was happening?
