A young man sat in his living room.
He was reading while hearing his parents arguing.
Who didn’t hear them? They were almost screaming at the top of their lungs.
‘WELL WHAT DO YOU THINK, THEY SHOULD JUST LIVE ON THE STREETS?’ he heard his mother scream.
His father responded, ‘OF COURSE NOT, BUT THEY SHOULD FIND SOME PLACE FOR THEMSELVES SOON!’

Fau looked at the time. Almost time for school.
He got his jacket and headed to school.
Fau knew his parents wouldn’t kick him and his 2 older siblings out the house, but it still sounded awfully scary to hear it being talked about.
It was a rather boring school-day, but in the last class, a parent was allowed to tell the students all about his job.
It was a wonder the teachers allowed this parent in particular, since this parent was a member of the thief’s guild.
He talked all about the thrill that came with being a thief, but also about the dangers, which for some people might increase the thrill.

After school Fau went home and made his homework, after which he ate dinner with his household.
It was awfully silent at the dinner table.
‘Mom, dad’ Fau said nervously, ‘i was thinking i could maybe get my own place if i joined the thief’s guild.’
His father was not pleased, he yelled: ‘EXCUSE ME? THE THIEF’S GUILD? ARE YOU CRAZY BOY?’
Fau’s mom almost started crying, ‘M-my little boy, a t-thief.’
‘Like, i wouldn’t hurt anyone,’ Fau told his parents, ‘except in their wallets.’
Fau’s older sister face planted, while his brother stared at him as if he was crazy.
‘If have my own house i won’t be a pest to you guys anymore, that would be good right?’
Wrong move.
His father got to yelling again, ‘GO TO YOUR ROOM, YOU WILL BE WORKING AT THE TAVERN TOMORROW!’
Fau walked up the stairs, into his room.
He now knew that he would never become a master thief.

Fau woke up to the sound of birds chirping, which was pretty rare, seeing as it was normally by his parents yelling and screaming.
He got up from his bed to see the sun way higher than usual when he woke up.
‘Shit’ he thought.

After an (irritating) conversation with his father, Fau made lunch and set off to the tavern.
He was walking around, seeing all kinds of races.
This was the first town that lived in peace with other races like Trolls, Elves, even Orcs, which were known for not being friendly.
But Fau was quick to discover that that was merely a stereotype, as he started making orc friends in school.
Fau also learned that races could work together, with Orcs able to produce fire out of thin air, Elves being extraordinary intelligent, and Trolls having immense strength.
And of course, Humans being the glue that keeps the peace together.
Fau arrived at the tavern, and when the bartender saw him, he called: ‘Bosco, ze kid is here!’
A rather short man with a great mustache - apparently Bosco, the tavern owner - came down the stairs and greeted Fau, ‘Ah, Arnold’s kid isn’t it?’ he said, ‘Yes, yes, he told me you were coming to work here, right?’
‘Jup’ Fau simply said.
Bosco started asking Fau some questions, as if it were a interview.
‘How old are you? i need to know because Murdoch won’t let me have a child serve alcohol.’
‘I am 16 years old sir.’
Bosco raised his eyebrows, ‘Really? i would’ve thought you to be at least two years older. Ah what does it matter, you look 18, so you’re old enough for me.’

It has been a few weeks since Fau started cleaning tables in the tavern, and Fau couldn’t be more bored.
There was never anything interesting going on.
Never something that you would expect from a tavern.
No fights.
No thieves.
No rough types.
Not even arguments.
It almost seemed as if this was a snobs tavern.
But soon there would be a change in that.
Today the tavern was completely empty
But then (Finally) Fau saw a man enter the tavern, and Fau knew he had to be some master thief.
How couldn’t he be?
He wore a very dark black hood, did not show his face, and wore black leather gloves.

He sat down at the bar, next to where Fau was cleaning the stools.
He spoke.
‘A beer.’ he said, with a gravelly, dark voice.
Fau looked at him with wonder.
The character seemed to see this, because with a relaxed voice he said: ‘Whatchu staring at me for?’
‘Oh, I’m sorry sir’ Fau apologized, ‘I’m just wondering something.’
The man now turned to Fau, ‘And what’s that?’
‘Oh, well, this may sound weird, but i just want to learn the thrill and skills for a master thief, and you seem like a man who would know all about it.’
A silence fell.
‘Fau!’ They heard Bosco yell from the stairs ‘Don’t talk to the customers and do your damn job!’
The man put his hand in his pocket, and took out a potion with a note.
He then pulled out a pen, and started writing on the note.
He gave the potion and note to Fau, paid for his beer and left.

And so, after work, Fau checked out the note the strange man left him, reading:
“Come meet me in alley next to the tavern tonight at eight o’clock.”
So that’s what he did, after having dinner with his arguing parents, he left the house, saying he was going for a walk, to meet this stranger.
Surprisingly, Fau did not see anything wrong with it.
