Chapter 3 1/2- CONNER
Conner:
I lay awake, staring at the stars. It's the first time I've seen them for real. In The Compound, they project them on the ceilings once in a while as a novelty thing, but other than that I've never even seen a light in the sky. I guess even that was fake. Everything is fake in there. I guess that's part of why we left. That and also that girl that went missing. They found out a few days ago that she was gone. She's still in The Compound, but her friends say she was getting a bit on edge and that she might have become dangerous. Then there was her closest friends who said there was this guy that has been following her around for a while. Everyone was panicking, and we had been planning this for a while. If a few more people disappeared, they're probably draw the line to a murderer or kidnapper. That would give us more time. They also did say that even if she has left, they wouldn't go after her past a certain marker. We passed that marker about 30 miles ago. A few of the other 151 were saying they might go after her if she did leave, mostly her friends and a few guys, but I think they're full of crap. I hear a little giggle, and I look over at Quin and Bud, but they're both strait faced and asleep. Maybe Bud wasn't imagining things? Then again, I'm extremely sleepy, so it's probably just the wind. Come to think of it though, that rock seems a bit suspicious. How does that even happen? A random dirt covered rock stuck in the side of a ledge. I get up and start walking over to it.
"What are you doing, Con?" I swivel, seeing a sleepy quin. I just smile.
"Nothing. Go back to sleep."
