Our names are _____. We are from ______. We are writing to you today to ask that you increase financial aid to Ukraine so that they can buy the military technology that they need and defend their country against Putin.
The people in Ukraine deserve to not be conquered and colonized. They deserve to have self determination over their own country and they deserve for their sovereignty as a people to be respected. If Russia wins the war, they will subjugate and colonize Ukraine. Russia has already committed many war crimes, killing civilians and kidnapping children.
Russia has kidnapped up to 750 000 Ukrainian children, taking them away from their families and cultures. These children have been forced to live in camps or with Russian “foster” families, where they are not allowed to speak their own language. This is literally genocide. And if Russia wins in Ukraine, many more children will be taken and many more families will be ripped apart. And Russia will do even more genocidal crimes against humanity.
Ukraine needs our support now more than ever. Russia is gaining ground. They’re getting more territories. The Ukrainian military is running out of supplies. They don’t have the weapons and ammunition that they need. They need more money so that they can buy more supplies and drive out Putin’s armies.
Canada has lagged behind and continues to lag behind when it comes to giving much needed aid to Ukraine. This is shameful, and the people of Canada expect better. We support Ukraine, and support doing whatever we can to ensure the Ukrainian people have their human rights. But the government doesn’t support Ukraine, and this is horrible.
Please change this pattern and change the tide of the war by ensuring that Canada provides at least $1 billion per year to Ukraine to help them fight for their rights as a people.
