It all happened all too quickly — the collision and knocking the person onto the floor — simply because I wasn’t paying attention. But it might be wrong for me to say that if I knew it was someone like him, I wouldn’t have minded it happening again.
“Ouch, my head,” the guy groaned in pain, and I scrambled from the floor to help pick him up. “I’m so, so, terribly sorry!” I offered my hand, and he seemed disoriented until he focused on it. His eyes traveled from my hand to my shoulder, then to my neck, before following my lips, and finally my eyes, before he muttered something under his breath.
“Are you okay?” His face had a drunken stupor look, though cute, as he failed to respond. “Hey, are you alright?” I tried again, this time giving him a slight shake by the shoulder.
As if stirring awake from his daydream, his cheeks flushed red, and he began to ramble and stutter. Involuntarily, I let out a small laugh, prompted by his actions and expression, which also seemed to stop him from his hysteria.
“I-I’m sorry I wasn’t looking, but I didn’t mean to bump into you,” he explained, but I understood it was just a harmless accident, and it seemed best if I let him finish and control the scene.
“I understand. I’m just glad none of us were hurt,” I responded, my eyes drifting around the scene before I caught his gaze. His eyes stared into mine as if nothing else existed, but suddenly, his eyes started looking everywhere but mine.
“Still though, both of us should really watch where we walk,” I jest, before starting to feel that maybe he had places to be. “Excuse me, I’m sure you’re needed elsewhere,” I added before turning to leave.
But then he called out to me, perhaps I heard a tinge of desperation, as I stopped and turned back to face him. “What’s your name?!”
“If you’re back here again at this time, tomorrow, I’ll tell you then!” I replied with a smile, and he smiled back before nodding his head. With that, I was the first to turn tail and walk away, the smile on my face having remained until I got back at the hotel.
