My breaths were unsteady, the only light I had was proved by the full moon that didn't hesitate to highlight my wrongs. My sin. What have I done? My body wouldn't stop shaking. Why did I do it?
"That's quite the mess you made," A familiar voice taunted.
I looked at the trees to the side of me, he was leaning against it with an amused smile. My eyes widen.
"Blake, thank god, please help me, I didn't-" Her voice broke as she struggled to not cry.
"You didn't mean to? You don't know what happened?"
"Yeah, exactly, please help me," I begged.
"What's wrong? What happened?"
"I-I don't know, we were just talking a moment ago,we started arguing. I started hearing whispers then it all went black. Before I knew it, she was dead and blood was on my hands " Tears flowed down my face.
He walked over to me and pulled me into his chest. I continued crying.
"Is that it?"
"Yeah," I answered sniffling.
Suddenly, with one hand he roughly gripped a hand full of my hair close to my scalp and forced my head back and to look at him. He wore an annoyed smile.
"Let go of me!" I growled.
"Ah, you want this. You did all of this so stop denying it and owe it. You killed Sofia, you killed your best friend." He bluntly stated.
"No! I didn't, I would never kill my best friend!" I frantically explained.
He sighed in annoyanceand let go of my hair, I fell to the ground.
"You're lying."
I looked at him in disbelief, "Why would I kill my best friend?" I asked.
"Because she betrayed you, after all the years you guys have been together. She was willing to give it all up for a new group of friends, who clearly doesn't know the real her. "
"No, it's not true."
"Oh come on, she even let them bully you just so they wouldn't believe you if you said the truth about her. She rather live a lie than live with her only friend. It pathetic."
"Stop."
"Why? You should stop crying, she isn't going to come back. The dog that weeps after it kills is no better than the dog that doesn't. Your guilt will not purify you. You need to realize that inside you aren't just some smart, misunderstood, shy girl. You are a monster, you are dark and rotten on the inside and no matter how hard you try to hide it, ignore it or even cover it up, you'll eventually explode," He glanced at Sofia's body and smirked, "Clearly."
No, it can't be. I'm not a monster, I'm not dark.
"Why are you doing this to be? I thought we were friends?" My head dropped and my voice lowered. I sound so weak and pathetic.
He kneeled and softly lifted my chin, "Of course we are friends, you might be the only person who's alive that saw this side of me. And because I'm your friend, I'm here to help you."
"Help me with what?"
"With taking off the restraints, be free, be yourself."
I'm confuse, "That's enough chatting, you should get rid of her body unless you want to get caught."
"How?"
"Let's walk a bit, I have a shovel waiting, you can dig a hole and bury her."
Did he plan this? How did he know this was going to happen? He stood up and led the way, encouraging me to follow. He left me to drag Sofia all on my own. A dead body is surprisingly heavy. After a 10 minutes walk, he stopped on a cleared spot where a shocel and lying.
"Here, we don't have much time before the sun comes up so I suggest you start shovelling."
I did as he said, quickly getting exhausted.
"I could use some help."
"Nope, your kill your mess, murderer."
"I'm not."
"Then what are you? Only murderers go into the woods, kill their best friends and bury them."
I stayed quiet, I suddenly hit something hard.
"There's something here," I said.
"Really check what it is."
I continued digging around it, until I saw something white. I let good of the shovel and dusted the remains on it. My entire body that finally calmed down started to tremble again. I wanted to scream.
"What is it?" He asked looking over my shoulder.
"Oh, that must be Harold," He pointed out excitedly.
I looked at him scared, "How do you know who it is?"
"Obviously, I'm the one you put him there. Now hurry, we have a lot to talk about, just put her over him."
I'm scared, I'm scared. I moved her body.
"Take out the axe."
I took out the axe and some blood came out. It was a reminder of how fresh the body was. Laying in the hole I dug in the ground, resting over another person's dead body, I laid my best friend, who I murdered, to rest. I covered her up in hopes that my sin, that my flaw will never be shown or seen.
"How do you feel?" He asked.
"Horrible, what kind of question is that?"
"I think you're lying, deep down you feel relived that finally you gained control and one less person is looking down on you."
"You are a monster, what makes you think I wouldn't tell anyone?"
"Haha, go ahead, I don't care, you're welcome to show the police where you buried. But nothing there is going to point to me, all fingers will be pointing at you. Think about, who isn't going to believe that the school's loner, yet genius, whose best friend abandoned her, whose mother is dead and has a drunkard for a father ,didn't finally chip off and killed her best friend then buried her in the woods. Or tthey'll believe that the school's star-athlete, a saint to all and overall the most loved boy in his high school, killed that man, the skeleton has no finger prints the only finger prints there is your's all over Sofia."
He's right, they'll never believe me. I'll just end up in jail, I can't go to jail. There's so much I have to do and be.
"How about I make you a deal?" He suggested.
"What kind of deal?"
"In exchange for not telling anyone about Sofia, you become my girlfriend."
I frowned, "What?"
"It's simple, so choose."
"Why would you want me as your girlfriend?"
"I've already told you, your the only person who has seen this side of me. We're a perfect match, you know my dark side and I know your's. We're both ugly on the inside so let's be ugly with each other."
"Why me?"
"Because deep down I know you're the right one for me. You need to stop hiding behind the mask and be yourself. So what do you say?"
What other choice do I have? I can't go to jail.
"Ok."
"Great, we'll make such a lovely couple."
How did it end up like this?
