"Accepting Fate"
Act 5
(Curtain opens)
Scene: Sing Sing Prison, Cell Block B, Cell 2, Solitary Confinement**
(A guard knocks on the cell door and addresses the inmate inside.)
Guard: (Firmly) Hey, 3313, your lawyer's here.
Luca: (Resigned) Okay, let him in.
(The guard unlocks the door and allows Vincent DeLuca to enter.)
Vincent: (With a heavy heart) Well, Luca, you know why I'm here.
Luca: (With a sigh) Yeah, I'm afraid so.
Vincent: (With genuine concern) I did everything I could, but it wasn't enough.
Luca: (Nods) I know you did. Thanks.
Vincent: (Shaking his head) Maybe things would've been different if you were tied to a family. Freelancers don't have the same... protection.
Luca: (Bitterly) Yeah, I know. A family's got reach, got people in high places.
Vincent: (Regretfully) It often helps in cases like these.
Luca: (Accepting his fate) I guess I've got a date with 'Ol Sparky', huh?
Vincent: (With a pained expression) I'm sorry, Luca. Truly, I am.
Luca: (With a faint smile) You did what you could. Thanks for everything.
Vincent: (Softly) Of course, Luca. I wish things were different.
(Luca nods in acknowledgment. Vincent signals to the guard, who opens the cell door for him to exit. Vincent leaves, and the guard locks the door behind him. The stage lights dim, highlighting Luca's solitary figure as the curtain closes.)
End of Act 5
