Yothin, a program manager at GONE Television invited Somchai, a drama producer and Alisa, CEO of a perfume and cosmetics company to a meeting.
All three sat around the table in the boardroom at GONE Television.
"I pick Fai to write the screenplay, what do you all think?"
Yothin gazed at Somchai and Alisa.
"I think Fai can write the screenplay for this drama. So yes, I support booking her for the job," Somchai made his submission.
"Her submission for the screenwriting competition was the best, making her the most qualified for the job. She may lack experience but her talent is undeniable."
"Ms Alisa, what do you think?"
Both Yothin and Somchai waited for her answer.
"I object...."
Yothin and Somchai took in her answer with much surprise.
"I am against her writing the screenplay. Like you said earlier she lacks the experience."
"She can be can coached or trained if need be," Yothin reasoned.
"I have been producing dramas for years to be certain of her doing a good job with the screenplay," Somchai said.
Alisa opened a bottle and refilled her glass with water before further explaining her objection.
"I agree that she has talent, but this drama is such an important project for my company. We are the major sponsor so I would not want to take on the risk of hiring a novice for the job."
"You were one of the judges for the competition. You saw how her script stood out from the other candidates, all the judges agreed hers was the best."
Yothin defended his choice.
"Yothin I am in agreement with you. Fai would do a stellar job if given the opportunity."
Yothin smiled at Somchai for supporting his decision.
Alisa only signed and sipped her water.
Toey arrived at his favorite coffee shop and ordered three frappuccinos.
As he waited for his orders to be ready, he sent a message to their group chat.
Toey Texted: "I am now at the coffee shop."
Fai Texted: "Pun and I are on our way there."
Toey Texted: 😊👍
Fai Texted: "We will be there in 20 minutes."
Toey Texted: "See you soon."
At this point, a young man about the same age as Toey approached.
"Excuse me, but is your name Toey and live in the Bang Rak district?"
"Yes, that's correct," Toey answered as he looked at young man with curiosity.
The stranger wore a suede bomber jacket, tailored trousers and Chelsea boots.
And his presence alone sent a sweet prickly sensation down Toey's spine.
"I am Q," he said finally with a smile.
"Q?"
Toey was confused.
"I went to Christian College school before moving to Hong Kong with my parents."
Toey searched frantically through his chaotic memories to see if he could remember him.
Then the light-bulb moment came.
"Q!" Toey exclaimed with excitement.
"I guess you remember me now."
"Oh, my God Q, is it really you?"
"The one only."
"I am flabbergasted," Toey regarded Q with a little laugh.
"I remembered you were the only one who cried when I announced I was moving to Hong Kong with my parents."
Toey nodded his head in amusement.
"Yes, I remember it too. How old were we then?"
"Maybe twelve or thirteen. I think."
"So you are back now?"
Q nodded.
"What have you been doing with yourself and how have you been?" Toey asked.
"Am fine and healthy. I am working with Pen Al, it's an artificial intelligence start-up."
"You are not in University?"
"No, I am not. But you are in your final year I guess."
Toey nodded.
"Are you still friends with Pun and Fai?*
"We are still friends, in fact they would be picking me up any moment from now," Toey said looking at his watch.
"It's nice seeing you again."
"Likewise."
Toey's frappuccino orders were ready.
"I will have to leave now, Fai just sent a text that they are outside."
"Let's have dinner or see a play together. There is so much I want to tell you," Q suggested.
"Okay, let's exchange numbers."
The numbers were exchanged.
When Pun arrived home from lectures, his Uncle was busy with domestic chores around the house.
Later Champ took his nephew down town.
It was a beautiful late afternoon and the sun was setting quietly over the horizon.
As Uncle and nephew wondered about the busy street, they came upon a newly opened perfume shop.
Pun quickly suggested they take a look inside.
Once inside they looked around and smell the fragrances on offer.
Coming out the shop they wondered around without a clear destination in mind until coming upon another shop that sells clothes.
There Pun helps his Uncle pick out a couple of vintage neck ties for his collection.
Finally, they ordered fried chicken and chips with Pepsi, before going back home.
While Pun was eating the fried chicken and chips for supper, Fai called.
"I have news to share." Fai began.
"What news?" Toey asked.
"Well I have a meeting with the program manager at GONE Television and a drama producer."
"Is the drama producer Somchai?" Toey asked.
"Yes."
"That sounds like a big deal," Pun now said as he tore into his fried chicken.
"It is a big deal," Toey quickly added.
"When is the meeting?"
"Tomorrow at lunch time."
"Could it be because you won the screenwriting competition?" Toey asked after some consideration.
"I think so," Fai was unsure.
"Why else would they want a meeting with Fai if she didn't win the competition," Pun said.
"I am just very nervous," Fai admitted over the line.
"Am sure it's something good. Tell us when it's over," Toey shared with a naughty laugh.
"Best of luck, Fai." Pun then added.
As the Uber pulled up in Thonglor, a nervous Fai took out her phone and paid the fare.
She stepped out and looked around for the tea house where the meeting would be taking place.
Checking Google maps, she realized she needed to walk a few steps to her left.
Walking along she paused briefly to look at her reflection in a shop window.
Fai contemplated whether to take the silk scarf from around her neck and rather tie it around the strap of her white handbag.
She decided on the latter.
She slide the scarf off her neck but as she was about to wrap the silk scarf around the white strap of her handbag, a gust of wind swept it out of her hands.
It landed at the feet of a gentleman coming in the opposite direction.
"Excuse me, you have dropped your scarf."
The owner of the baritone voice scooped up the scarf, walked over to Fai and handed it it to her.
"Thank you," Fai said as she looked up into the man's coffee-brown eyes.
She registered his tall frame, the wealth of shinny black hair, and the dark suit and tie.
Maybe he worked in one of the many office buildings in the area, she concluded.
"I presume you are here to meet someone," he murmured.
"Yes, I am."
"I will not take anymore of your time."
Fai felt her cheeks coloring as she watched him walk away.
As she tied the scarf around the strap of her white handbag the memory of the man in the dark suit tormented her with a sudden surge of restlessness.
She had to see him again.
When her task was completed she entered the tea house.
Rada busily flipped through the pages of a magazine in a distracted state. Her son, Mick sat across from her.
He was finishing up his essay that was to be submitted to the President of writers club to edit before it's put into the literary magazine.
Taywit entered the sitting room carrying his briefcase.
Rada closed the magazine and set it aside.
"Taywit I must talk to you," she informed her husband as she stood up from the sofa.
"I had to bring home a lot of work this evening," Taywit told her as he closed the door behind him.
"Taywit please, I must talk first," Rada insisted.
"You mean I must listen to you first," Taywit set down his briefcase.
"Good evening, Father," Mick stood up as he greeted his father.
"Hello, son. How are you?"
"Am fine, thank you," he responded before sitting down again.
"Governor Rapanich has finished building his villa in Koh Lanta," Rada went on as she approached her husband.
"Koh Lanta?" Taywit repeated without much interest.
"He has invited us to be his guests," Rada said with a delighted gleeful smile.
"It's an opportunity not to be missed."
"There is nothing special about Koh Lanta," Taywit retorted as he marched towards the liquor cabinet.
"Koh Lanta may not be special but there is something special about Governor Rapanich inviting us to join his family and a few close friends," Rada explained softly.
Taywit poured vermouth into two glasses and handed one to Rada before sitting down.
"Koh Lanta is perfect to visit this time of the year. There is less rainfall, which means various beach activities to do. We can explore the island or even go diving."
"You know I am off to Manila on business next month and it's your duty to accompany me.'
"I know dear..." Rada began but her voice trailed off.
"If you wish you can go to Koh Lanta with Mick."
Rada turned and smiled at her husband
"Thank you Taywit."
