5 miles East of Rastenburg
6:42 PM Local Time
"Mein Fuhrer, High Command has arrived. I will grant them access."
As the FBK security messenger, a part of his own personal eight man security team, left the room once he delivered the message to the Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler himself turned away from the top window of the Wolfsschanze's, or Wolf's Lair, briefing room. Located east of the East Prussian city of Rastenburg and tucked inside the Masurian woods, this establishment was one of the structures that served as his own personal headquarters and today he would be using to plot the long-awaited invasion of the Soviet Union, long-ruled by his arch rival Joseph Stalin.
The time to strike is now. The filthy Communist chieftain won't see this coming. It will be a swift and crushing blow, I can feel it. Did he really think two years worth of economic ties and a measly pact would prevent us from striking and ensuring his demise?
If his top brass would follow his instructions dutifully, which he was sure they would as they had seen how his strategies, yes, all his ,resulted in the downfall of Poland and France with the United Kingdom being a work in progress, the oilfields and Manganese reserves of Siberia and other parts of the Soviet Union like Azerbaijan and Ukraine would be theirs in less than a month. As the German war machine had re-armed and emerged as a forced to be reckoned, so far uncontested, Hitler was positive that they'd have the Bolshevik states without much significant resistance.
In about a year's time, Lebensraum will become reality. The German people can have the land that they were destined for and will thrive off it in a way the bestial subhumans are incapable of.
Gazing back out the slightly foggy window, but offering a grand view of the complex, the Fuhrer viewed the steel fence, glinting in the bright light of one of the guard towers, surrounding the complex in what was known as Sperkreis 1, Security Zone One, one of the few security points all visitors had to get through to see him. An armored security unit of the Wehrmacht guarded the entrance of the Lair and if that wasn't enough, a minefield lay past the barbed wire fence that lay between the second zone, which housed the minister's quarters, and the first.
Only a madman would be fool enough to attempt to storm one of the most fortified headquarters of the Reich.
Feeling safe from any possible assassination attempts, the supreme leader of one of Germany's largest empires watched as the snow fell softly onto the white ground underneath the waxing blue winter evening. Soon, the light from the watchtower located in the north fell onto the checkpoint as a black Mercedes Benz Capriolet entered. RSD guards, dressed in black coats and matching helmets with the Reich's battleflag while sporting machine guns, approached the vehicle to inspect.
At last, they arrive. It's time to put my plan into motion.
Soon, Herman Goering, Albert Speer, Joachim von Ribbentrop, Wilhelm Keitel, Alfred Jodl, and Martin Bormann all had stepped inside and were seated beside or around their superior at a sleek rectangular table with some overhead lights as the only source of light in the room. The operation to take what belonged to the Volk began right then.
"Mein Fuhrer, how shall we proceed with the operation?"
Smiling with delight at Goering's question, barely containing his child-like glee at the opportunity to expand the German Empire, began to explain what he had in store for their unsuspecting Soviet foes and began to lay out his suggestions in how to maintain the territory along with how the critical resources in the captured territory would be utilized to its fullest and greatly assist the German economy.
"From the early drafts of General Marcks's plans to Operation Otto, the blueprints of our conquest of the east have come together." Hitler's blue eyes landed on Reichsmarshall Goring, who came up with the latter military strategy. "Premature plans for Operation Fritz as I refer to the next stage will now be elevated to the master plan. From now on, we will now refer to it as Barbarossa. Like it's namesake suggests, Deutschland will prevail all over Europe once we subjugate the Slavs, execute Stalin and his Jewish cabal of commanders, and vanquish the rest of the Bolshevik filth east of the Urals."
As the High Command gathered over the plans splayed out on the ornate table, glossing over them, Johann Rattenhuber entered the room and stood by the door as a few of his RSD troops guarded every corner of the room. Even one man inside was unnecessary since one of the prerequisites to enter the Wolf's Lair was to give up your weapon to the guards, but at the very least, the Fuhrer Escort Brigade, served as a message to the men in the room against trying anything against him.
"Mein Fuhrer, what message would that send to our allies? If we break the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, no one will trust the Reich anymore."
Hitler's blue eyes landed on the Luftwaffe's commander in chief before taking a breath to think of a response.
"That is precisely why we are making our move. No one, least of all the Politburo, will suspect anything or see our blitz coming. With most of the continent annexed into the Reich, we won't have to answer to anyone anymore."
That seemed to pacify the Reichmarshal as the Fuhrer continued to explain what would be known as the Generalplan Ost that detailed the necessary steps for the implementation of Lebensraum for the German people at the cost of the Untermensch. Only now they should take care to analyze and avoid Napoleon's mistakes from his invasion of the Russian heartland. With that settled, the invasion itself, their own crusade into the Red heartland, would commence sooner than anyone thought.

The Romanian-Soviet Border
8:32 AM
"Mein Fuhrer, I recommend we wait for the Battle of Britain to conclude prior to opening up a new front. I feel our resources are stretched thin here and we'd have a better chance of conquering the Soviet Union when we have only one front to focus on. Moreover, I feel as if Barbarossa would be more efficient should we use resources such as extra troops, armor, weapons, and aircraft from the British Isles."
From the roof of a military based used by the German Occupation Forces, Adolf Hitler glanced over at Herman Goering as they watched as the Wehrmacht's 2nd, 3rd and 4th Panzer group under Field Marshal Fedor Von Brock and led by Gunther von Kluge, Heinz Guderian, and Hermann Hoth marched toward the Soviet Border, marked by the tall wheat fields and high grass that shook with the morning gale that made it seem like critters were playing inside. The site of several Tiger tanks accompanying various Wehrmacht troops dressed in meadow-green singing Erika as they marched on to war was quite a scene for propaganda for the state. He'd have Goebbels play it for sure.
"I have thought this through with you, the High Command, and the generals partaking in the operation. With the assistance of the Finns, the Romanians, the Norweigans, Greeks, and Italians, what could possibly go wrong?"
The Fuhrer stopped as a couple squadrons of Junkers, Heinkels, and Dorniers as well as several half-tracks among the armored divisions of the Nazi's invasion rumbled by before asking one of his closest officials a question.
"Besides, what kind of force could the Untermensch muster up? It's not like they have anyone with the courage, spirit, skill, and motivation of an Aryan warrior?"
"Perhaps you are right," Goering muttered, not entirely convinced their mission into the east would be a cakewalk. "Let's see what kind of futile resistance the Bolsheviks can put up."
