Italy was, and always will be, his home; his happy place.
He was born in the capital, Rome, a long with his eldest sister and his other two triplets.
They quickly moved to a more rural area, as he was told, just as his sister was going to be born. They moved out of the capital for two reasons; his father absolutely hated the squalor of the city, and father's uncle had died, leaving a farm to his relative.
There weren't too many houses in the area, but there was a farm house a little way down the road. This belonged to Fiorella, a lively girl who brightened up his days in the green paddocks. They were fast friends.
They met when she was three, and he was two. His parents told him that she could never manage his full name- Luciano- so she would always say Lucio. And that was most probably why he was so stuck on the name.
They two peas in a pod; They never left each other's sides, not to do anything. Their parents always laughed about it- they'd eat together, sleep together, bathe together. It was almost impossible for the two not to be seen together.
He can't remember what she looked like now, but he knew she was absolutely beautiful. He wondered why she didn't make friends with his other two brothers; he wonders why she didn't go play with her sisters.
She was ever the tomboy. She would play rough, she'd climb trees- even if they were so high that he was too scared too- they'd often come back caked in mud, and she'd never ever wear dresses.
There were many curious things about her. How her short her would never be grown long; how her tanned skin would seemingly never glow red after a day of play, like his would; how she would be shy of anyone around their but him; how she'd always wear a red-and-white hoodie, even though she knew it would be soiled by the end of the day.
The worst tragedy in his life involved her; It was not her being selfish or mean or nasty when the pair was young, but in fact when they had parted.
He never wanted to leave her; to leave Italy, but his parents made him. He couldn't remember the reason why, but they left the most beautiful place in the earth to live in some disgusting town a continent away.588Please respect copyright.PENANANa1i6GQDI3
He remembers the last time they met before he'd needed to leave her. It was heartbreaking. When he broke the news, the two of them cried and cried, tears full of sadness and memories, memories of the past, and memories they wouldn't be able to make together in the future.
The last thing they said to each other was goodbye. But before that, they made a promise to meet one day in the future, and she confessed something important to him. He never did remember that one important thing.
If he had to pick one thing that he regretted in his life, it would be that he never got to see her again. He never even remembered her beautiful face.
