Episode 37 - The Plan
The storm was raging outside, banging against the walls and cracking against the glass windows.
I stood in this mansion’s bedroom with Sebastian, watching him scan the plans of the house casually before gazing up.
“Look here,” he said then, pointing to a wall. “All the rooms in this house coincide with each other, they all connect wall-to-wall. All except for this one. The wall between the broom closet and the linin closet is over five yards in length. A hidden room, clearly. This is where we would find it.”
I stared down to where he pointed, and nodded, immediately stepping out from the room to investigate.
I closed the door silently behind me, glancing around to find the manor completely silent.
The wind howled against the walls, rain pounding on the skylights… it was… unsettling, in a way.
More so with the circumstances.
I continued down the halls, holding my arms over myself when a draft set in, but I urged myself forward.
After about a minute or two, I reached my destination.
I stared at a wall between the linin closet and the broom closet, watching the shadows dance on it carefully.
Sebastian was right… usually, closets were small in length, and this wall indicated a hallway or a small room of sorts.
After glancing around for threats, I watched the wall more thoroughly, scanning the plaster for cracks or signs of a hidden door.
Right as I saw a small split, a shadow moved behind me.
“What are you doing?”
Claudia.
Shit… I thought she was asleep.
I froze, turning a little and forcing back on my kind personality. “I’m sorry… I was just looking for a blanket because it’s very cold in here.”
Claudia blinked, and she smiled kindly then. “Why didn’t you say so? You could’ve woken me.”
My lips curled a little.
Sebastian was right… so, so gullible.
She stepped over to the linin closet and opened the door, gazing up at me kindly as she stepped out of the way. “Which blanket would you like? I have many options.”
“Do you have a weighted one, perhaps?” I said kindly. “I have… problems.”
She just laughed. “No need to downsize yourself, here.” She pulled out a soft, weighted blanket and set it in my hands.
I gladly took it, smiling kindly at her before bowing. “I thank you again for your kindness, madam.”
She shook off her hand. “Stop thanking me. The guest deserves the best hospitality.”
I stood up straighter, smiling again. “Thank you so much. I think I might retire now.”
She just nodded and waved. “Good night! Sleep well.”
I just made my way back to the room, and after entering, I closed it behind me.
Sebastian was still at the bedside, sitting on the edge while caressing Yumi’s face.
My eyes softened, and I stepped over to him. “I got the blanket.”
He just gazed up at me, a small smile forming on his lips. “Good. Now for the second part.”
