It is difficult to imagine the beginning of time, let alone explain it to someone. There was nothing, no sound, no light, no hot, no cold, no galaxies, no planets, no money, no problems, just complete and utter zilch. But how could this be? Well, it just is. No one was there to observe the creation of the universe we just need to piece together the data we have, or are allowed to have, and we have come to the conclusion that the universe started all of a sudden. It just blinked into existence.
Over the billions of years that succeeded this event, objects started to form. Planets, galaxies, then the Astral Isopods, or the Yon as they are more commonly referred to. According to the Sovereign Database of wonderful creatures, the Yon are the oldest beings ever recorded and their race is estimated to be millions, if not, billions of years old. Not to mention they are very rarely seen because they live in deep, deep space away from almost any civilization. Alone in their own little corner of the vast expanse of the universe. In fact, no one really knows where the Yon’s homeworld is? No one has ever seen it. Of course, people have claimed to have visited it but no one has ever been able to find the location. The very thought of this to a mere mortal is just too overwhelming to some.
Kaylen had been overcome by thoughts of creatures with such a beautiful existence, witnessing the early stages of life across the great universe. Having no enemies and just living with each other, swimming through the stars as they blinked into existence. Witnessing the creation of technology from primitive beings. But the thing that tugged at her emotions the most was this thought…. “Imagine living so long that the future becomes history.”
Captain Reyneer folded his arms. “Imagine what they’ve seen.”
“Oh, I didn’t realize I was thinking out loud.” Kaylen was a little embarrassed that her emotions got the better of her. She could feel her face getting flush.
The ships avatar, being an advanced sentient machine could feel the vital signs of the crew running through the ships diagnostics so it put a hand on Kaylens shoulder. “It is beautiful to see something that only a handful of people have gazed upon. We may be the last to ever see a Yon for thousands of years.”
Dr Shaw cleared his throat, it was dry from being open in awe. “It’s true, they are very rarely seen.” He picked up a tablet from a nearby desk and began tapping away. “In fact, according to the Sovereign Database the last recorded sighting was…” he tapped again to confirm he was reading the data correctly. “…three and a half thousand years ago.”
Captain Reyneer readjusted his stance when he remembered he had been asleep in Cryo for the past month. He needed to get the blood circulating again. “Speaking of, let’s start adding this sighting to the database.”
A soprano style soaring melody drifted out through the Night Expresses communications system, a beautiful sound not all that dissimilar to whales of Earth. The crew were stopped in their tracks. Kaylen stood up and looked at the ships avatar. “What is that?”
At the speed of thought, the ships Mind scanned all deep space frequencies. “It’s the Yon Kaylen.”
Kaylen walked towards the view screen and put her had on the glass as if to connect with the massive creatures siren. “Hello beautiful.”
“Hello Kaylen.” A soft whispering voice drifted through the ears of the crew.
Kaylens eyes began to tear up with the realization that the Yon was speaking to her, she could feel it in her heart.
Captain Reyneer narrowed his eyes as a sheer unintentional reflex.
The voice of the Yon swept through the air. “You are not hallucinating Captain.”
Dr Shaw and the ships avatar whipped their heads toward the captain, to which he widened his eyes knowing that the Yon had seen or felt his own expression. “Outstanding.” Captain Reyneer was a hardened man with a soft heart, he was calculating a defensive attacked while being utterly impressed by the presence of the Astral Isopod. If it was to barrage their starship for some reason they would be helplessly defenseless. He couldn’t help these thoughts, being a seasoned Solar Navy officer.
“I am unwell.” The voice of the Yon soared majestically through the air.
Captain Reyneer moved closer to the Avatar. “Is it using the ships translator? Or does it speak our Common English?” He was curious to know as there hadn’t been much recorded about their language.
“It’s bypassing our translator.” The Avatar was not as shocked as it thought it would be. The Yon had been around since time began so it’s not an unreasonable assumption that they know most languages.
“I know all languages.” The Yon stepped in.
“How is that even possible?” A perplexed Dr Shaw moved toward the view screen to study the Yon.
“Its a form of quantum phonetics that allows my brothers and sisters to collectively share knowledge.” The Yon made a sharp whistling noise, only lasting a few seconds but was enough for the crew to realise it was in pain. “I have lost my ability to location lock, every time I open a wormhole I never know where I will end up.”
The modern day Yon is rather different to the ancestors from billions of years ago. Somewhere along the way on their billion year evolutionary journey the Yon developed the ability to generate wormholes by purely their minds and bodies. Without aid from any machine. It was quite incredible.
Kaylen felt a surge of emotions about to spew out of her. “We need to take it home!”
Being of a sound military mind, Captain Reyneer was focused on the original purpose of the Night Express. “We can’t. There over a thousand souls in Cryo Sleep waiting to return to their own home.”
The ships Mind interjected. “If I may Captain? This being is an integral part of our very existence. I think we owe it to this Yon to assist in its journey home.”
Kaylen pointed at the avatar in agreeance.
Dr Shaw jumped in with a valid point. “How?”57Please respect copyright.PENANADsVMVYtTbr
