Everyone had underestimated Jiro, and that was what Jürgen so dangerous. The other personality had broke free and utterly mauled Brottslight and then sprinted away from the dying Æraxis. Jiro had returned covered in blood but alive.
The first thing the Khagan did was have the Khagans army force the Covenant out of the Estrin Archipelago for good. And then he had found Ellanor.
The man brandished an unpublished edict in his sinewy arm. The technical Guardian of the East had received two letters already.
The first came directly from the desk of the Shield of Empyrea, Eirlys Ravyn-Valtor, to confirm her as the Eastern Guardian. The second was a completed charter of the Second Pheasantine Republic, which the easterner had scoured to find differences to the original charter, while also finding it was a gift from the now defunct Bane of Æraxis.
Jiro had some difficulty wrapping his mind around the concept of a political party owing to living his entire life in a Stratocratic Khanate. Democracy the Khagan could grasp, which was a start.
There had been a flurry of edicts and acts passed by Jiro and his new government taking power over the crown from the military and giving women equal rights. The populace had been startled by an act that changed the promigenture from angnatic to absolute. The new system of inheritance meant that sex was irrelevant to inheritance of the throne, and the oldest child would simply ascend. The system had worked well for the Earldom of Narciss for four hundred and forty-three years and had turned out three excellent female rulers, and the fourth may be on her way considering the instability of the region.
Ellanor had explained to him what a political party actually was but needed to give him examples, so she turned to the original Pheasantine Republic for assistance.
“The old Republic lasted from 45 YBP to roughly the beginning of Prime Minister Reinhart Rensiak's tenure as he changed it into the Executorship of the East. During these years there were some parties, firstly we had the centre of left Harmony Party, who were interested in inclusive social reform, they formed the 1st, 3rd, 9th, as well as the Coalition in the 10th governments, which were led by Archie Primrose, Lucian Fallow, Zula Boer, and Aria East.”
“I think I get it. They liked to change things to suit everyone?” Jiro asked innocently.
“Apart from Fallow, who got caught filling his pockets, yes.”
She had not a single clue why she was educating Jiro in easterm Democracy, but she might as well do it well.
“On the other side of the metaphorical political river was the Right – because they loved to sit on the right – Vanguard Alliance, who liked limited intervention in the market and strong regional defence. Vanguard only ever turned out two leaders: Otto Artis of the 4th and Clemettè Fjord of the 8th governments. People interested in a less watered down Harmony Party manifesto could choose to vote for the politically left – for they sat on the left and liked workers rights - Democratic Front, who advocated for workers rights, large unions, transparency in government, progressive taxation to ensure distribution of wealth, and robust safety nets for the poor. They also turned out two leaders, Henri Walpole of the 2nd and Winston Baldford of the 7th Governments.”
Jiro merely nodded and waited for her to continue.
“The last of the original parties was the one that sat in the centre of the parliament, the centrist Coalition Builder known as the Unity Party. They bulked out weak governments and watered down more radical ideas to keep everyone happy and managed to form the 5th and 6th governments under Leo Semalion and Horiato Dawnstar and then part of the 10th (coalition) government. The Eastern Absolute Socialist Party were only allowed to sit near Vanguard and were thus called far Right, they wanted to be aggressive in regional militarism and protect the East from the mixed so called threat of the stupid, the lazy, and the unpatriotic. EASP got through three Executors before your father, Khagan Xantè, smashed them mercilessly.”
Jiro nodded yet again, then he reread the charter of the Second Pheasantine Republic and frowned.
“225 seats, were there not 450 once upon a time?”
Ellanor Etatè, acting Prime Minister of the Second Pheasantine Republic and Gaurdian of the East, who had a cushy role as speaker of the Ubiqtorate for after her term to look forward to, smiled at the Khagan sweetly.
“Combined boundaries. We definitely do not require all those chairs anymore. I will tell you about the new parties now. Firstly is the Aurora Party, or Revolutionary Dawn, a far left Socialist Party that seeks to end money and usher in a post scarcity economy by nationalising key industries and removing class barriers. Soc is on the left and wants to expand existing services like the Eastern Regional Health Service (EHS). New Harmony is basically identical to its namesake and Unity Reborn or the clean slate is quite different as it doesn’t like building Coalitions, wants low taxes, and to build a big fleet while being friendly to other regions like the Narcissians and their much bigger fleet.

Ctually quite different to the original centrist Coalition Builder in that it isn’t interested in building coalitions. Is frugal with the economy and likes low taxes, wants to invest in building a small but powerful fleet while maintaining amicable relations with other regions. Lastly, the Lateral Alliance is a slightly more extreme Vanguard Alliance, which has been renamed.”
“Interesting, perhaps we cou-“
“No. I have an airship to catch to the North, and you will soon. CATAE is busy circling the Earldom waiting for the insurgents to put someone else on the throne, and I need to be there to see it.”
