The next few days had only one topic on my mind.

Food.

We were getting dangerously close to running out, and I had yet to tell Noah we’d only had four days of food left, and that was if we rationed it.

So yes, there was a problem.

The next morning, I had managed to find a fishing rod in the pouch, and though we couldn’t really use it since there wasn't a river for miles, it was good Momma packed it for when we’d come upon one.

Momma.

It had been two months since we last saw her, and we’d no Idea how she was doing. We only hoped that we’d be able to see her at some point, see her warm almond coloured eyes once more, be held in her arms, her lovely brown hair spilling over her shoulders. I missed her, and I hoped she was all right.

Anyways, when we’d finally reached a river, fishing turned out to be an ordeal of Its own, but I’m glad I did it then! According to the map, the next river wouldn’t be until the border with New Galaxia, and anything else we could eat would come from the forest, the plants of which were… unknown, to say the least.

A book that was in the pouch told us that one of the fruits of the forest, which took on the facade of a plum, actually began puncturing your insides once it reacted with stomach acid, something I’d rather not experience.

Perhaps the food would last a while, but only Sol knows.

A fourth of a fortnight later, I stood in my room of the cottage, panicking en-masse. The fish was lasting us, but I knew it would only do so for so long. We were still progressing north, and there didn’t seem to be an end to the endless congregation of trees.

I sat on my bed, contemplating what I could do. Perhaps… Yes, further rationing seemed the best action, anything not to panic Noah. But shouldn’t I tell him? He deserves to know. No, unnecessary, sending him into panic for a silly reason like that- pointless. Besides, I’d work something out eventually! Shouldn’t take so much effort.

I laid there in my pajamas, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw two piercing silver eyes, extremely contrary to anyone I recognised.

The only familiarity it held was with Sol, and I’d not had the opportunity to meet him yet. “Gleaming silver, irises of the great star, the glory of Sol’s eyes—eyes that see all.” Gelonium 16:something, I didn’t remember it that well.

Oh and, about that, I’d looked through the pouch Momma had given me, and I couldn’t find our books of Joy. Normally, whenever we went, she’d insist on us taking at least something related to the books, but she probably forgot due to the rush she was in, so I understood.

Perhaps those eyes were Sol’s. After all, Joy said he comes in many shapes, beings and sizes. Hopefully he’d be watching over us—hopefully.

I proceeded to doze off.

“What!?”

It just so happened I did not figure something out. I told Noah the situation, having no other choice than to tell him, especially with nothing left to eat. What choice did I have?

It was a week or two since I made the decision to keep silent, and just as thought, Noah was not happy.

“I could have helped Loycelynne! Now what are we going to-”
“I’ve told you already, I didn’t want you to panic! It was just some-”
“Don’t you dare say some silly thing. Running out of food is not some silly thing! Now what are we going to do!?” Noah said, holding his head in his hands.

“Well I don’t know! I just didn’t want you to panic, and here you are, doing just that!” I said, oblivious to the severity of the situation. Noah lifted his head, pausing for a moment.
“So me panicking is worse than starving to death?”
I paused. “Well neither would be good, so…”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right… So what are we going to do about the food?”

I took a breather, successfully diffusing the situation, but I stayed silent when it came to the question. We were suffering from food—or perhaps a lack thereof, so in accordance to his question,

“I have no Idea.”
