My eyes slowly opened, blinking away the salty sting of the sea water. It was still sore but the pain was manageable. I felt this chocking sensation within my throat before coughing out some water. My head hurts as I turned to look at my surroundings. The diver was there, without his snorkel and spandex suit, his face of concern turned to delight when he realized that I have awoken.
"So... are you better now sis?" he had a certain accent that I couldn't identify. He was very pale, enough to see the thin vessels on his cheek. He had Asian features, slit eyes and straight black hair which was not really kept properly. I nodded in reply to his question, before a question of my own popped up.
"Which century is this?" I asked, wondering how long I was left to rot in that underwater chamber.
"Centur-what?" he gave me a quizzical look. It was kind of funny, the way his face contorted in a cute way due to his confusion. Maybe he doesn't understand what is a century, maybe they have another name for it. I needed something common to find out which time I was in.
"How long has it been since Emperor Zelva fell?" He must have known who that was. If he didn't, I may have been in that aquatic cell for much longer than I expected. Luckily for me, he figured out who the Emperor was.
"Wow! That's ancient history isn't it? Some say he was a myth but I believe in his powers. Did you know that-"
"Just tell me how long!" I rudely interrupted. There was a look of hurt on his face. I didn't want to look unappreciative of his help or like an ungrateful brat but I needed answers. He took a really long time calculating the eras it has been that it almost made me snap. It was obvious that he was not exactly the brightest around. Either that or humanity have just dwindled in terms of intelligence during my presence.
"I can't exactly know how long, but the years difference between him and the extinction of the dinosaurs is about one-tenth to the years difference between him and us," he shrugged.
I did my math. It was about half a billion years, which was ridiculous. What exactly have I missed in these half billion years? I don't think that my savior was bright enough to fill me in, but he was all I have.
"My name is Azura, what's yours?" I smiled and extended a hand, a warm smile creates more allies than a powerful army. He immediately shook it with excitement.
"Cyrus, high general of the 6th rebellion." I could not believe that he was a general, but another word caught my attention more than his high position for such a low intellect; 'rebellion'. What exactly are they rebelling against?
I took another, more detailed look at my surroundings. There were beautiful trees dancing to the wind not too far north. There was a menacing looking volcano to the east, its very presence threatening everything within its path. Now that I looked at the trees again, I couldn't help but wonder if the trees were dancing, or cowering. To the south was the ocean which I was rescued from, bright and shimmering with brilliance, the most beautiful looking scene yet the most repulsive scene for me. The amount of pain printed into my mind whenever I see a wave crash, reminding me of how I could scream for help but could never be noticed, it was unbearable. To the west was a city, extremely far away but I could notice that it was not like the cities of my time.
The city was glowing with a radiant light. It looked so advanced that it betrayed the serene nature of the other three directions. I could see lights blinking on and off, like playful fireflies trying to mate. It was beautiful, not like the breezing forest, nor the majestic volcano, nor the powerful tides of the ocean. There was something mechanical in its beauty, something that nature can never provide, yet nature need not provide such technology to be beautiful.
"It used to be so much nicer you know? Before they started their regime." Cyrus noticed my interest in the city. It was funny on how he just found something so unusual yet he never bothered asking me about my origins, even after I asked him weird questions.
I could not even hear the galloping of the horses before the cold steel touched my neck. I turned around to see three men in some weird body armor that looked like it came from some sci-fi show. He was holding a sharp blade to my neck and grunted deeply. I looked beside me to see my new friend in the same position.
"How long do you think you could run Cyrus?" His voice was extremely deep, menacing in a way but almost synthetic.
"You tell me Master Chief. It took you and the whole noble squad 5 years to catch me off-guard helping an innocent maiden." Cyrus shrugged and laugh. I honestly have no idea how he could laugh at a time like this. I looked deep at the three men. Full white body armor. Nice helmet but carrying a sword instead of a gun? And riding on horses instead of a car? Something was not right.
"Check the girl against the database," the leader commanded. One of the spacemen took a tiny metal ball out of his pocket and set it on the ground just below me. A weird silver liquid started oozing out of it and slowly crept its way to me.
Upon reaching my leg, it rapidly shoots up to my waist within a second, carefully covering every inch of my skin, encasing me. It went all the way to my neck before it stopped growing. It felt slimy and disgusting, there was a cold, metallic feel to it as well. I shuddered as it swirled around my skin. Upon the commands of the soldier's hand, the liquid glowed crimson then emerald. After that it glowed blue before finally crawling off of me. The mysterious emerald liquid then went back to the tiny metal ball which it first oozed out from. The soldier immediately picked it up and started reading something.
"Sir, we found something," his voice filled with surprise. The leader came towards the ball and looked at it puzzled. He then gave me a look like I was a witch.
"Impossible. This has never happened before. Never! What's with this girl?" He started pacing up and down.
"She simply does not exist. She is forgotten."
