As society tugs at him,

a quiet thief of his softness,

it pulls poetry from his chest,

stealing vulnerability

and leaving behind

a hardened discontent,

a disdain for the nonsense,

for the unfilled phantoms

of pseudo-social grins.

He treasures his time now,

guards it fiercely,

a newfound reverence

for the solitude of thought

and the freedom of choosing

what deserves space in his mind.

Though, even as he unravels their threads,

he feels the force of the net

tight around his soul.

Caught in its suffocating strangle,

he stares at the void of the page,

searching,

aching

for another way to write himself free.
