☁️ The Dream ☁️
“Supriya, I have the weirdest dreams! Like in this one dream I ate planets bro! I ate Neptune, Pluto(it was small), Jupiter, and even planet X. Anyways, wanna play Sharks & Minnows with Nethra, Ananya, Judi, and Hiabel?” I ask her.
“Sure but could you tell me more about the dre…”, Supriya gets dragged away by Judi before she gets to finish her sentence. Just then the teacher blew the screeching, gray whistle (I swear, I hate that thing, which meant recess was over.) I lined up and was talking to Nethra about the challenge Mr.Kane, our math teacher, gave us to fold a sheet of paper 8 times, which is literally impossible.
“Guys, make a line!” Mrs. Baker, our homeroom teacher shouted when she realized that a loose string of hair was hanging in front of her face. She tried to tuck it in, but unfortunately failed.
Once we got into the classroom, Sahil started yapping like always, but Mrs.Baker shut him off.
“But…” he started.
“No buts Sahil Thakar, we all know that you like to yap but it’s not that hard to just shut your mouth. And Miab- I meant Hiabel Hbtzghi, why are you working on your valentines craft right now?” she asked sternly.
“Um, I- I wasn’t doing anything,” Hiabel says as she sneakily puts the craft away as if nothing ever happened.
“Lies,” Mrs.Baker says, rolling her eyes as she takes off her black coat and probably wondering why her UGGs look like clown shoes. “Oh yeah, this pile of writing organizers are looking pretty thick.”
. . .
Once I got home, I pleaded with my mom, who had baggy eyes at the moment, to have a sleepover with my friends, Supriya, Nethra, Hiabel, and Ananya. My mom said it was a lot of people, but she said yes. Once my friends got to my house, we baked some banana muffins and played some board games.
“Hey, I heard there was a haunted house on Red Devil’s street. Wanna sneak out and spend the night there?” Hiabel asked.
“You know I'm up for it!” I replied, turning around to look at all of my friends.
“Fine,” Nethra said, shooing the mosquito away that seemed to have a crush on her. “Wait, what about our parents? They’re going to worry about us obviously. They could check on us in the middle of the night.” Nethra stated as she stretched on her sleeping bag.
“Well,” Chaithra added, staring at the silver crescent moon. “How about this, we’ll leave at exactly 2:00 AM in the morning. Our parents have to be asleep by then. Then we’ll come back. Easy as that.”
“Nethra has a point…but at the same time, Chaithra has a pretty sweet idea. I’m in! If we’re successfully going to pull a secret midnight haunted house escape, we should leave stuffed animals or something in our sleeping bags.” Ananya suggested.
“Yeah! Come on guys, it'll be fine. We’ll return in the morning just in time that nobody notices!” Hiabel exclaimed, packing a flip phone in a bag just in case.
“Umm… but what if- you know what, I’ll go. Or maybe not or I don’t know. Ok, I’ll go.” Supriya hesitated.
“ UGHHHHHHHH! I have no choice, do I? Chaithra, I BETTER not get in trouble for this. If I do, you owe me the rest of your life,” Nethra sighed deeply. We all giggled with Chaithra in the lead. “Come on, we’ve got crescent’s luck, what do we have to lose?”
“Ok,” Ananya said.
“I have no choice do I?” said Supriya. We all shake our heads. “FINE!” she says, rolling her eyes.
. . .
“We’re here!” I said holding at the scrunched-up coal-black bag. P.S. I might’ve stolen it from my little brother, Rohith.
We went inside and the doors creaked open without us even touching it. Creepy entrance, I thought as me and my friends entered the haunted house.
“Damn…” Nethra said, amazed by the shimmering obsidian walls, and the feast that was on the glass table as if the family who had all died was still here.

Suddenly, I got teleported to a narrow hallway. And it was dark. There was only a teeny tiny bit of light. It literally looked like an abyss leading into the unknown. But of course, my brain debates myself and says oh Chaithra, what could this dark, creepy hallway possibly lead to anything bad? Like, that explains why I make the worst decisions at the worst time! Well, there is no other choice. As I walk through the hallway I think about what happened to all of my friends. Is it possible that… never mind. Once I reach the end of the hallway, which had before seemed like it was going on forever, I go up a pair of spiraling wood stairs. Once I reach the top, there’s a door. Just go in, what could possibly happen? And there goes my dumb head again. Why god, why??? I open the creaky, wooden door. I peered inside, and there was a scarecrow. Of course, it is! This ain’t gonna scare me, I’ve totally got experience with this type of stuff, right? I think, until… the scarecrow magically comes alive. My bad luck strikes again! I run as that horrible thing chases me down. It’s not nice when a scarecrow is chasing you. As I run I notice that there are messages written with blood all over the walls saying Help Me!, and also bloody hand marks smearing the wall. There was another message about 2 sentences long, but I was mostly focusing on making it out alive. Just then… a dead end. The scarecrow catches me and basically yeets me through a random portal.
. . .
“Chaithra, you okay?” Nethra asks.
“I’m good,” I answer as Nethra helps me off the ground. “Or at least, I think. Did you guys get teleported to the dark hall-” All of my friends stare at me as if I had a gigantic Snickers bar. “What?” I ask, raising my eyebrow like Da Rock.
“You might or might not have a spider that might or might not be a black widow on you,” Ananya replied. I freeze. Carefully, I grab the black widow and yeet it.
“You could’ve told me that before!” I say angrily.
“Guys, can you see that?” Supriya asks, pointing to a house through the window that we could barely see because of the dense fog.

”Yeah, but barely,” Nethra says.
. . .
We opened the door and walked inside.
“I can’t see,” Nethra said.
“Oh my god, really?” I said sarcastically, trying to find the light switch. Once I found it I turned the light on.
“Ahhhhhh!” Nethra screamed, as a ghost appeared right in front of her and captured her.
“Nethra!” Supriya said, trying to grab her hand. I jumped onto Nethra, hoping to hold the ghost from pulling her, but the ghost’s pull was just too hard.
“No!” I cried. “We have to get her back,” I said, processing what just happened. Suddenly, the TV turns on and shows Nethra. They gave her some kind of potion and made her a whole different person.
Just Like The Others...
Suddenly, we got teleported to a room, a very dark one. It had the same exact messages in the same exact hand writing and written with the same exact blood. I take a deep breath, and then the idea sparks in my head.
“Guys, this place is trying to mess with us,” I said.
“No kidding,” Ananya replies, rolling her eyes.
“No, hear me out. I feel like it’s trying to trap us in its game. But every game has rules… and a way out,” I said, looking around. Finally I see it.
“Guys, look at this message, it’s unlike the others,” I say as I look closer.
“It’s scratched deeper into the wall, like someone is desperate. It says fear is the key’,”.
“What does that mean?” Hiabel asks.
“I think it means we need to face our fears,” Ananya answered.
“So… what are our fears?” Supriya asks.
“Well, mine are bugs,” Ananya says.
“Is it a specific type?” I ask.
“No, just bugs in general,” she answers.
“What about yours, Supriya?” I asked her.
“Sharks,” Supriya says. “Yours?” she asked me. I shrug.
“So, what are we supposed to do?” Ananya asks. I look around and find a greenish-blue substance labeled' fear.’
“Look at that,” I say, as I point toward the substance.
“Do you want us to drink that?” Hiabel asks, disgusted.
“Yeah,” I say.
“You’re crazy, but it’s the only way out, right?” Hiabel asks. I nod. “Then let’s do it,” Hiabel says, sighing. Hiabel drinks the substance AKA a potion and gets teleported.
“Who’s next?” I ask.
“I’ll go,” Supriya answered, stepping forward. Once she drank the potion she instantly got teleported.
“You’re up,” I told Ananya. She stepped up and took the potion into her hands. She pauses. Then she drinks it and gets teleported. Finally, it’s my turn. I step up and take the potion. I stare at it for a moment, but at last, I drink it. I get teleported to a dark room. Squeak squeak. I turn around and I see a chair rocking back and forth. There was no one in it though. I take a step closer and I see a doll. I screamed as it laughed and laughed and laughed.
