Trevor sat behind the wheel of his car as he drove towards his home after visiting his father. He couldn't stop recalling the image of his father crying as he had apologized over and over. And no matter how many times he had reassured him, his father just wouldn't stop crying as he said,579Please respect copyright.PENANAB1iJ8yzgyZ

He heaved a sigh as he made a right turn and immediately slammed his foot on the break. He froze as noticed an accident which had occurred. However, as he continued to survey the scene through his windshield and realized the gravity of the situation, he changed the gear to park before her rushed out towards the car closest to him. 579Please respect copyright.PENANALxSf2sG6EW
Inside the white car, lay an elderly woman whose shirt was covered in blood as her head rested on the middle of the steering wheel. He was tempted to shake her slightly to see if she was conscious but he decided against it since he didn't know whether she had a spinal injury or not.
Instead, he decided to call 9-1-1 before continuing with his scene survey. He walked to the other car involved in the accident after the call and immediately, he was surprised to see a young girl behind the wheel, crying.
"Hi, my name is Trevor and I'm here to help. Are you hurt anywhere?" he asked her. She shook her head.
"Do you think you can get out of the car?"
"N-no I'm not leaving the scene," she replied.
"I can only help you if you're outside of your car since it's cramped in there."
She looked at him and shook her head again, repeating the same words,
"I'm not leaving the scene."
He looked at her for a few moments, trying to think of a way to convince her to step out. And as soon as he did, he removed his wallet from his pocket and retrieved his driver's license along with his hospital ID. 579Please respect copyright.PENANAHoOWOJpTXH
"I'm a doctor at a hospital near by and I'm trained in first aid," was all he said as he handed her his ID. He watched her as she looked at the cards before looking at him. He smiled slightly.
"You can trust me."
After convincing her to get out of the car, he quickly jogged to his car and retrieved a blanket and his first aid kit before returning to her. He sat down beside her on the roadside and draped the blanket over her shoulders.
"My mom is going to kill me," she said to herself, so quiet that he almost didn't hear.
"Why is that?" he asked, adjusting the blanket before opening the kit.
"She told me not to go out tonight but I was so stupid," she laughed mirthlessly.
"My friends kept egging me to sneak out and I just couldn't stop myself, I fell for it. And then I had a few drinks while we were out─"
"Why did you decide to drive then?" he asked her.
"I don't know."
He pulled a few strands of her hair away from a small cut on the side of her head before applying some alcohol. She visibly flinched. 579Please respect copyright.PENANAt4mcYWh8gV
"I'm just disinfecting your wound. It's not very deep, just a scratch," he informed her. 579Please respect copyright.PENANA8Cu2wJc0zc
And it was at that moment when she began to cry once again. Trevor was unsure of whether she was crying because of the accident she had caused or if it was because of the alcohol. Either way, he didn't know if he should reprimand her or attempt to comfort her. After all, she had done something illegal and she was just a stranger.579Please respect copyright.PENANADstIe7TZlJ
As he was lost in thought, the ambulance finally arrived and removed the unconscious woman from her car. Trevor chose to ride in the back of the ambulance with the still crying girl as they drove to the ambulance.
And as the familiar siren filled his ears, he couldn't help but to remember the countless times he had to go to the hospital because of his father. He tried his best to suppress the memories and focus on what was happening, as he looked at the woman covered in blood.
* * *
"Aren't you supposed to be at home?" Trevor turned his head at the sound of a familiar voice and smiled.
"I guess I don't have control over everything," he replied, as he watched his coworker walking towards him.
"What happened? And where's Charles?" Dan asked. Trevor sighed as he removed his coat and hung it on a hook before sitting down behind his desk. 579Please respect copyright.PENANAAURLRSLN3u
"He's probably long gone by now." Dan looked at him with an arched eyebrow.
"What do you mean?" 579Please respect copyright.PENANAtUN5fg9zrw
Trevor chuckled slightly. 579Please respect copyright.PENANACbzuQaSrTG
"I mean he's sleeping at home."
"Ah, gotcha," Dan replied before taking a seat across from Trevor.
"But what happened? Why are you here?" Dan asked when Trevor didn't say anything else. 579Please respect copyright.PENANAVJ04R3eCB3
"I saw an accident and I had to come here with the people involved. And I decided to stay since I'm on call tonight anyway." Dan nodded his head as he was finally able to understand why Trevor was there. 579Please respect copyright.PENANAEw62VcgId9
"Oh by the way, you're getting a new assistant tomorrow," Dan informed him. 579Please respect copyright.PENANA3C5Q1cnHrh
"Why? What's wrong with my current assistant?" Trevor asked, leaning onto his desk.
"I guess he didn't tell you. His dad passed away and he needs to return to his country to take care of everything."579Please respect copyright.PENANAnApvy9raLg
As soon as Trevor heard that, he couldn't help but to feel hurt at the fact that his assistant hadn't trusted him enough to share that information. He just nodded his head as he remembered the countless times he had tried to be friendly towards him so that they could get closer and work better together. 579Please respect copyright.PENANA5Zd9QO1RPJ
Dan slid a folder across his desk, causing his thoughts to disappear. He reached for the folder and opened it. And as soon as he saw the name at the top of the resume, he froze.
Lori Chen
That name brought back so many terrible memories which he had tried so hard in the past to forget. And just when he had began to forget about her, it seemed that she was coming back to haunt him.
"Are you okay Trevor?" he heard Dan's voice from afar. He turned towards him, not fully looking at Dan as he asked,
"Who is this?"
"That's your new assistant."
And as soon as those words registered in his mind, Trevor could no longer tell whether he was breathing or not.579Please respect copyright.PENANAzTOXqE9k1b
