I stare down at the fray below us in the valley. Watching it from above feels surreal. The thousands of soldiers clashing and thousands more that lay dead or wounded don't seem real to me.
My dragon, Aerius, stirs beneath me. He cranes his head around and fixes me in the gaze of his amber eyes. "We should join the others." He says.
I don't want to. I left with the other Riders and dragons thinking that this battle would be a quick and glorious one but it has turned into a nightmare. No, a nightmare would not be so bad as what is happening below. This is Hell I am seeing.
"I can't Aerius." I whimper.
He gives me a sympathetic look. "We have no choice."
I think of the lives that will be destroyed by dragon fire. Many lives will be lost when our dragons swoop in on the enemy.
Aerius turns his attention back to the battle below and spreads his wings out. He takes flight and descends towards the enemy lines, gaining speed as we go down.
Dear Aerius, I think to myself. You were always my guardian angel but now you're leading me straight to Hell.
