She knew that it wasn't a great idea to fall for someone based on their looks but he was different. There was an aura about him which drew her in without her permission─not that she minded. She felt her lips turn into a smile as her fast heartbeats began to steady as she looked at him. His deep green eyes were trained on her face, as he smiled slightly.
Too soon, the song came to an end and he stopped, removing his hands from her waist before attempting to walk away but she held onto his wrist.
"There's something I need to tell you," she told him. He looked at her slightly confused as she dragged him away from the dance floor and into the hallway where she knew he could hear her, passing by her best friend who had failed to stop her.
Once they got there, she released her grip and prepared herself for the moment she had rehearsed in front of the mirror for months. She was going to confess her feelings for him.
She took a deep breath and opened her mouth to speak but before a word left her mouth, a girl dressed in an elaborate gown walked towards him and kissed him on the cheek.
"Why did you leave me waiting inside?" she asked him.
She couldn't say anything as she felt the first few tears finally escape before she ran out of the building, trying to get herself to stop crying.
He had known that she was going to confess and he had wanted to stop her but his reason for doing so had seemed selfish at the time. But now as he watched her retreating figure, he couldn't stop his emotions from steering him towards her. He ran outside to find her sitting on the ground with her head in her hands, crying. He walked to her and sat down, pulling her into him as he felt his heart race from being close to the girl he had grown to love.
He felt slightly angry at the guy she had given her heart to, only to have it broken into pieces and he was tempted to walk back inside and give him what he deserved, to make him feel the pain that he had caused his love. But her sobs kept him back.
He walked to her with two small tubs of ice cream and spoons in his hand, determined to make her smile again. He placed one before her and she slowly picked it up, tears still streaming from her eyes. She began to eat the contents but stopped when she remembered what had happened earlier, causing more tears to fall.
"It hurts so much."
He pulled away from the kiss and looked at his stunned best friend's face before saying the words he had longed to say.
