Silent. It was silent. Never good news. In a town where there is never a quiet moment, silence is almost unheard of. He knew what this meant. He was a target. It was simple. He was going to die. Silence was a sure sign you were the next target. He silently willed you to hurry up. She crept in the shadows as he tapped his foot impatiently. A smile tugged at her emotionless features. A smile. That was odd. She never smiled. Some thought she had some sort of problem with her facial muscles which caused her to not be able to smile. She knew different. She never showed emotion because that makes you weak. Feeling weakens. Caring for people makes you weak. She grew up hearing those phrases and many more of the sort. She shook away the feeling. She readjusted her mask. She always wore two. One physical, the other psychological. It hid her features well. All except the eyes. It didn't matter. Her eyes were called "demon" eyes. The ones who see are always too traumatised to remember the colour. Funny. The only thing they remember is not specific. Her task was simple. Kill him. Kill you. She wasn't told why and she never asked. She was never one to pry. All she cared about was getting by. With a family and "friend" circle like her's, that was easier said than done. Slowly pulling her knife from her pocket, she stopped creeping towards him. Too easy. This was routine for her. Kill. This was the one word that she liked. Her entire personality was formed from this one word. In fact, as a kid she was apparently flawless. In reality, she just had no way to say what she felt. The only way she could show her emotions was through art. And to this day, it still is. She continued creeping behind him, stopping right behind him. "Found you," she said in her monotone voice. People often said she could feign her emotions like the best of them. He spun around with lighting speed. This took her by surprise and he punched her in the stomach a few times before she could stop him. She dropped the knife and punched him the jaw once. After blocking a few more of her punches, he ripped off her mask. He smiled. She stared into his eyes, wondering like a client like her current one wanted him dead. He looked at her facial features. They were devoid of all emotion. Blank. Other than that, he thought she was perfect. Hair of a leather-like colour. Eyes the colour of the night. No white. Pitch black. The colour of a lightless cavern. The only thing he thought that "ruined" it was the bags under her eyes. She never seemed to find time for sleep. Her blank expression changed to a scowl. Before he could comprehend it, she had snatched the mask back and was wearing it again. "I've seen your face, you know. That mask won't erase my memory." He reminded her. She put the knife back in her pocket and began to walk away. He was confused. Why was she walking away? Her next words chilled him to the bone. "You can't hide from me. I'll find you." She yelled to him. His eyes widened in shock. As soon as she had appeared, she had left. "Hey I've got my bag. We can go now." You said, startling your friend as he stood staring where the girl stood just a few seconds before. He spun to face you and started mumbling incoherently trying to form a basic sentence. "Are you okay dude?" You were really worried. He never stutters. This was new. And you didn't like it. Not one bit. After a few more seconds of mumbling, he forms a sentence. "K-k-killer. A-a-assassin. F-f-find m-me." He stuttered. His eyes were still wide with fear. "Let's just go to the movies like we planned." You wrapped an arm around his shoulders. He nodded shakily. He managed to stop shaking and you both walked to the movies. She watched you both from the roof before walking home via the rooftops. As she took the mask off and opened the door to her house, she sighed. She heard drunk rambling and sighed again. Before anyone knew she was there she had snuck upstairs. Picking a book off her shelf, she climbed onto the roof and looked at the cover. It was a book about moving unseen. She began to read, unaware that you and your friend were watching a movie at that moment. You now knew what she looked like. You thought she was a monster. You pushed all thoughts of her from your mind.
