I should have left when I had a chance. Really I should have never come. We were warned of this powerful woman but who would have thought that she existed. Curse the flattering mouth of society.
I was here with my head on my knees as her sword made a thin line in the concrete as she walked through the crowd of fearful people. Her sword cast electricity like little worms hurrying for freedom.
Her face was void of any emotion as she walked towards her prey, meanwhile, fear was flooding through my veins. I couldn't move. I was too afraid to look her in the eye. Why was it that no one was coming to help me? It was happening right in front of them and yet they did nothing. Typical.
She stood in fronts of me my feet barely touching her boots the cool touch of the tip of her sword lifted my head toward her eyes. When I saw those deep ocean eyes I was gone I couldn't look away. I felt as if my soul was seeping into her eyes. I could see my soul turn against me in her eyes and laugh.
My breath caught in my throat and tears sprung from my eyes. But I saw something someone else behind her. His eyes...they were... wildly yellow with a hint of red...
He looked at me the same way the woman did, with indifferent eyes. I returned my gaze towards those eyes that seemed as deep as the ocean and quivered in fear.
Slowly, a voice like silk poured from those lips, "What's your name?" the others around the held their breath as if any sound would cause a death to happen before them.
My breath rushed "Charlotte!...my name's Charlotte" Her lips turned into a small smile that made her eyes crackle with electricity. She held her sword low and walked around me completing a circle that danced with electricity...
A small smirk came over the woman that walked along with the sparks her sword created. "Well... Charlotte, how unlucky you are to be the one chosen out of all of these..." she looked around with half-lidded eyes at the frozen crowd, and let out a snarl, "People," with a giggle, she looked back at her prey, "In what way would you like to die, pretty little thing?"
I didn't know what to say the words she spoke became came foreign to me. I couldn't think straight.
She appeared on my face with her arms resting on her knees. My lips shut out of it's on movement killing me. "Charlotte?...are you there?" She grinned knowing merely existing could kill. She moved back quickly now standing. My breath released. They guy with lava eyes was speaking.
"Charlotte..." his voice cut through the silence like lightning through the sky's stormy clouds.
With the grace of a panther, he approached the two of them. The crazy woman furrowed her brows and frowned, stepping aside to make way for the boy. He stopped an inch in front of her and knelt down to meet her eyes properly. Charlotte couldn't breathe. They were too close. Was he going to be the one to kill her?
In a deep whisper, his voice melted into her ears like cream, "You're coming with us..."
My view slowed as they held my arms woman and men stared at me with sadness but relief too because it wasn't them. I cried out my voice cracking in distress. Their faces were hard my pain falling on deaf ears.
A scorching pain ran like wildfire in my head making me scream in more pain. "That'll make you sleep" his voice thundered in my head.
"Wha..." my mind collapsed releasing me from the agony. Was he trying to help me?
A few seconds later the world blacked out.
The last scene I saw were the frightened faces of the people, and two pairs of beautiful eyes staring through me.
It felt as if I was underwater. The noise was muffled by the water's barrier, and all I can hear were incoherent mumbles. However, as I released my breath, I came to realize that I really wasn't dumped into the sea.
"Why of all humans did you bring this GIRL here!?"
"You know why..."
"I know but WHY NOT ANOTHER GIRL."
"Do not question my methods."
I could feel my body return. I rocked and yanked at the invisible barriers the table creaked and squealed under my movement. But I couldn't move my heart speed and fear started to pour out of my mouth. Panic covered my mind. I couldn't see anything It was dark as night.
"You've brought her too far! You are to sink her to the bottom of Yasmin river before night."
"when have you ever became the leader? Leave me or I'll kill you and throw your body in Yasmin river." The table began to move and the thudding of feet echoed around me. Then it stopped and the click of a door was heard
"Wake her up."
"Ugh... fine!" Suddenly, I was able to open my eyes.
What came to view was not the usual sunny fields of the village, but instead the dark ceiling of a cave. I flinched and tried to open my mouth in order to let out a scream, but instead, there was only silence. Why wasn't I able to speak!?
"Silly little Charlotte, you'll have to wait a little longer in order to talk." the witch chuckled and sneered at her with her ocean blue eyes.
I tried to scoot away further, but my back was met with the cave's wall. "Don't scare her, Cassandra. It will make things all the more difficult." the boy with eyes of lava said in a monotone voice.
"Okay then..." Cassandra said with a pout. What were they going to do to me? I wondered with eyes as wide as they can be. The fear has not yet left my system.
"You haven't taunted her once." She looked at Fortis searching his face. "Is there...." she moved closer.
"No! There's nothing there...you should know better than to assume that. I have standards something you seem to not own."
She gasped playfully as if shocked then laughed."It's not my fault I can wow someone with just one look." Grinning, she strolled over to where Charlotte lay. Fortis' deep laugh left his mouth. "What's so funny?" Cassandra whipped around to face him.
"Oh nothing" he looked at her daring her to say anything. Instead, she turned back to Charlotte...
"Now, frightened little Charlotte, you're here for one reason and one reason only..." the witch said with a sinister smile on her face, "To help us." Charlotte blinked.
Her form no longer shaking like a leaf. Help? What did she mean help? Was it a money thing? W-were they going to sell her organs!? Charlotte tried to move further away, but there was nothing she could do. She was cornered.
"You can have your say when you want! Let's just wait for that spell to be done and over, shall we?" Cassandra grinned, "However, we don't want you trying to run away... just bear with another little spell, alright, Charlotte?" with the wave of her hand and a soft incantation, the witch grinned.
Pain struck her like lightning, and with that Charlotte let out a silent scream. After a minute she fell limp on the surface, panting as if her breath had just been taken away.
"A simple paralyzing spell! It shouldn't hurt that much compared to the other one!" Cassandra cackled and picked up Charlotte's body as if she was a bag of feathers. The sword hung right below charlotte's neck that cast a light bright enough to light the small cave. "Any wrong move and off with your little head. We shouldn't worry about that because you're paralyzed."
She looked over at Fortis knowing his life depended on Charlotte. "Don't play Cassandra I'm still immortal and way stronger than you."
She grinned as she looked down at me. Her hand disappeared in her long boots pulling out a small dagger that looked the same as the sword but with a small tube that ran to a clear ball. What was she going to do with it?
No matter what Charlotte tried to do, her body just wouldn't obey her. The only thing she was able to do was blink her eyes and breathe. However, she could still hear her heart pounding against her chest wildly as Cassandra came closer with the blade.
I wasn't even able to scream as she ran it across my bare wrist creating a flow of blood, however, I was still able to feel the pain... the horrible pain. To my shock, the blood didn't run down like it should, but instead, it was being absorbed by the blade itself. Slowly, the clear ball was filled with the red liquid.
"You are a vital ingredient to me..." whispered Fortis as he stared at the blade with such intensity.
"Not so fast." Cassandra waved the blade, teasing fortis. His eyes followed the liquid in the little ball. She spinning on her heel and placed a chair in front of him. She plopped down and stared into his eyes. "What's in it for me?" She tilted her head but never looking away.
"Cassandra...do not do this."
"Do what?" she furrowed her brows. Her lips slipping into a taunting smile. "You're centuries old but can still act like a vulnerable teenager. If I was centuries old what would I want? She tapped her chin.
Invading their plan the walls of the caves shook and the breaking of the ground flooded the surface with water. Charlotte still paralyzed lay vulnerable to anything.
A voice shook the caves remaining walls "YOU MUST FIGHT!" Without any time to think they appeared.
"You must decide among each other the best way in order to agree to your demands... as that's the only way you seem to communicate, Cassandra." said the shadow that loomed in the corner, from her angle, Charlotte wasn't able to see his face.
Cassandra made a sadistic grin and let out a loud witch-like cackle, "Exactly what I wished for!" without any further warning, she lunged for Fortis, whose face expression had yet to change.
With a swift turn, Fortis was able to avoid the long blade that crackled with lightning with the same fervor as its master's insane laughter.
"FIGHT ME, FORTIS! FIGHT ME, FIGHT ME, FIGHT ME, FIGHT ME!" repeated Cassandra with every slash she sent towards the immortal, every slash missing as Fortis glided through their battle as if knowing where and when she would strike.
"Cassandra I don't want to hurt you." He stood his ground taking in his surroundings and her every move. Because he knew if he fought she would no longer be a human, a sister, a friend she would be one of his rivals. No mercy would be shown, not a glimpse of remorse.
She swung the blade which glided across his face. Laughter filled his eyes his jaw now becoming strong his face looked devilish.
"Your first and last hit Cassandra!" The color of his eyes flickered to full yellow and red. In one motion Cassandra was pushed against the crumbled walls. "Are you ready for death Cassandra?"
"Like h*** I am" she smiled planning her next move.
Fortis gave Cassandra a glare, one that sent shivers down Charlotte's spine. If Cassandra had scared her, Fortis completely TERRIFIED her.
"COME AT ME, FORTIS." Cassandra yelled, her expression morphing to that of excitement. She held her blade steady in front of her, preparing for a deadly blow.
Fortis took a step forward, and in a split second, Cassandra's blade was blasted away from her hands with a wave of the immortal's hand.
Like an insane woman, Cassandra laughed and lunged for Fortis. "That's the spirit!" Fortis' sharp features had not changed, and those beautiful eyes of molten lava seemed to glimmer with fire.
However, instead of coming in contact with the immortal, Cassandra had instead broken her extra dagger after stabbing it at a barrier that he had put up. "COWARD!" Snarled the witch, enchanting her blade with her magic and repeatedly slashing it across the barrier over and over again. "COWARD, COWARD, COWARD!"
"Tch." with movements that flowed with grace, Fortis disarmed Cassandra and flipped her over before she had the chance to take another breath. "Submit," he said with a growl as he pushed her on the cave's hard surface.
All Cassandra had responded with were insane kicking and scratching along with multiple ear-splitting screeches as if she had turned into a child. "Very well..." a flash came over his eyes, and with a whisper Cassandra stilled beneath him, her eyes wide. It was a second later when she started SCREAMING in pain.
"Is this what you want?" He stared into her eyes, deep ocean eyes and found her source of power...her heart. Her eyes widen and her mouth opened in terror. He leaned closely to her ear. "Say it." He grinned and looked at her helpless face. He placed his hands on her lips and moved them to mock what he was saying.
"Power...power...power that's what you want Cassandra. Power." He teased her once more and stared down at her. "That's what I want...I want power." Her voice came out low almost inexistent. "You'll have to kill me to get it." He leaped up looking at her intensely.
She lay on her side curled up gasping for air. "But I thought you wanted..." she had a look of confusion on her face.
"I do but I never said when."
Swiftly, he stood up, the ruffle of his clothes silent. There wasn't even a single wrinkle upon the cloth. "I've won this duel. Now, you answer to my demands. Remember that you are nothing but a child to me." he held out his hand, waiting for the dagger to be handed to him.
With a wince of her pain, Cassandra took the dagger from her hidden pouch and obeyed Fortis. Before he turned to avoid her, she gave him a grin, "You are the strongest..." it was weak, but the meaning was there.
Fortis paid her no heed and focused only on the dagger in his palm. With one move, he infused it with his magic and watched as the dagger poured all the blood directly into his awaiting lips.
"Ahhhggg!! What is this?" He coughed and spat up the blood. Cassandra wheezed as she tried to laugh. He turned his eyes filled with simmering rage.
"You really thought I wasn't prepared." She stood up but held her stomach. "It's right here. She dangled the necklace.
"How did you?" He's eyes widened with surprise.
"That shouldn't matter. All I care about is killing you and being the highest." She took another take at Fortis. "Be ready Cassandra there's no holding back."
Before Cassandra registered the fact that Fortis had disappeared from his spot across the cave, he had already slammed her against the wall. "Are you SUICIDAL, Cassandra? Do you want to DIE? Is that why you mock me so?" he bared his teeth in a growl. "Give me what I need, child."
Cassandra giggled, her blue eyes in a frenzy, "You could just use your magic and have it in your hand right away, why is it that you play these games?" she smirked, her body not resisting his hold. "Don't you want to die so badly?" However, she didn't let him respond. Her body suddenly burst into a flame of lightning, her eyes glowing strongly.
Fortis stayed his ground, not at all affected by the fact that his body was being engulfed with her lightning's pain.
"Wise move I may say but think again," he smiled as his head started to crack into a raging fire. Fortis appeared as a body engulfed in flames In a blink of an eye fortis rushed into Cassandra. Cassandra filled with fear. With all of the force, Cassandra was forced into the caves remains. She flickered out like a light. "ARE YOU FINISHED CASSANDRA!!" His rage infused his fire.
On bending knee, she threw her head back "NO!"
Under the strain of so much power, the cave was beginning to shake. With every hit that Cassandra attempted to land on Fortis, the cave was slowly falling apart. Charlotte was still under the spell and was right now fearing for her life more than ever. It was one thing getting killed by a witch, it's another being buried underneath debris until you suffocate.
While bursts of power emitted from the two beings in spikes, the shadow that had been hiding behind them had moved towards her. Charlotte wonders why after all that has happened she had yet to faint from shock or fear. She wanted to close her eyes, after all, she was afraid of the death that was coming towards her, however, she couldn't help the curiosity of what this person's appearance would be.
The person who was able to control the two powerful beings that were in the middle of a duel. "Poor thing..." whispered the voice, however, there was something strange about it. Was it a little... high-pitched?
When the figure came into the light, Charlotte swore that if she had not been paralyzed, her mouth would have been agape right there. A LITTLE BOY. A little boy drowning in a cloak a few sizes too big for him. With a struggle, the boy held her ankles and started dragging her away. Away from the danger that was coming upon them.
Meanwhile... Charlotte was wondering HOW IN THE WORLD a little boy, who was having so much trouble pulling her weight, was able to control the two.
He realized she was getting nowhere. He placed his hands on her head and hummed a low rhythm.
"Oooooohhhhuuuuuhhhaaaa." His eyes rolled back as he got louder but that didn't seem to stop Fortis and Cassandra's fight. In seconds charlotte weight and movement returned. "Run." his voice a whisper as he disappeared into the cave where the two fought. Charlotte staggered as she ran to the opening of the cave. When she was there she fell to her knees because there's nowhere to run.
The cave was afloat on a small island. The land was no where to be seen. "Jump." The little boy's voice returned but he was nowhere to be seen. She jumped...for the cave was a heap of rocks.
Fortis burst through the debris into the air and Cassandra followed in a swift motion fortis threw Cassandra down into the debris. With what she had left she threw the necklace into the water. But she knew it was the end she died being defeated. But was it the end for Fortis. Will he rescue the necklace or the girl?
With a zoom, Fortis fell forward towards what he needed. The one that would make him mortal... the one that would make him die and live out his last moments at last. Charlotte closed her eyes as gravity pulled her closer to her demise, accepting her fate. It was funny how her usually dull life had suddenly changed in less than two days.
It seemed just like yesterday that she was walking around the village with her friends. now she wouldn't be able to see them again. As she got closer to the ground, she released her breath...
And felt two arms circling around her.
Shocked, she opened her eyes to meet beautiful orange ones. "W-w-w-w-what!?"
But the immortal said nothing and looked away. He adjusted her in his arms to make her take a more comfortable position.
"Why!?" Charlotte yelled, afraid to hold on to him in fear of being killed.
"You are the safest option... You still have more blood within you. Cassandra might have rigged her necklace with something... and you would've died and disappeared." he used magic to suspend them in their air, his eyes refused to meet hers.
"W-what are you going to do to me?" Charlotte couldn't help but stutter, as of now, she was flooding with fear... fear mixed with various different emotions.
"That knife that Cassandra used on you was special... one of a kind. I've spent years creating it and now she's died with it. I would need to make another." Said Fortis as he looked around them, but there was nothing.
Mumbling, Charlotte hugged herself for warmth due to the wind howling upon them, "Why can't you just slit my throat and drink that blood instead."
"Because that blade was a special blade." Said Fortis blatantly, relishing in the fact that he had caused Charlotte to turn an interesting shade of pure white at being heard. "It is made out of special material and designed to perfection in order to alter your blood the exact moment it entered."
With that, Charlotte said nothing else and closed her eyes. Darkness was better than being so close to his handsome face and beautiful eyes.
"You're going to have to be with me for quite a while... Charlotte." said Fortis as he flew them to another direction.
"Why me?" she asked softly.
"Because you're special... That's all. Now quiet." Fortis sent her a small glare and then refocused on their path.
With a flinch, Charlotte hugged herself tighter and released a shaky breath. What was she going to do now?
In the darkness of the falling debris of the fallen cave, the little boy fell inside of the dark abyss of the realm of shadows. Fortis had taken the girl... he needed to find the closest shadow to them in order to see their progress.
He scoffed. He had helped Fortis in exchange for many valuable things, but look at what he did. He threw everything away. Centuries for this moment of death only to abandon.
Well, he couldn't really scold him, after all, he was the one who had sent her free instead of letting her be crushed.
Fortis and Charlotte... how long will they be able to stay together without any trouble, the little boy wondered.
He couldn't wait to see.
