I don't know what I was expecting. Maybe it was waking up in a cellar, or not waking up at all. Maybe I was expecting blood. I know I wasn't expecting this.
I woke up in my room.
what a relief, right? Not exactly. A little part of me knew that I would be safe, it was a dream. But I was scared none the less. That's why its not a relief. I believed it was real. I'm going crazy.
The worse thing though I slept on my right wing. Now i'm gonna be uncomfortable for the rest of the day. Day?
"What time is it?" I groggily questioned my self while sliding a hand down my face.
"Five o'clock." what.
I look over the side of the loft and see a Metzi ready for school and pointing at her watch.
"Finally you wake up. Your like sleeping beauty you know." Metzi kept complaining as she was buttering a piece of toast. While my dumb ass tried to process that i'm not ready at five. As soon as it had though, I was up and looking for clothes. I picked a gray tee, with a nice black windbreaker and regular blue jeans. I rush down the loft and start toasting bread.
"Y'know if I was you," She ruffled my hair."I would take care of this mop first before I worry about food." I rolled my eyes. Metzi turned her attention to her breakfast and muttered something under her breath which sounded like 'Even though it looks like you need it.' Whether she meant the food or the groom, I couldn't care less. Right now the toaster cant go fast enough.

As I was trying to find my class my thoughts strayed. My dream might've been just that, a dream. But what if it turns out to be more of that. One thing I knew for sure, I need to get to know the victim Sirus (If that is his name) before-Before what exactly? Whatever happens I need to befriend him. But how?
After twenty minutes of wondering the halls of Hellmore and the bell ringing before i'm in a class. I declare myself lost and late. Damn. And if it couldn't get any worse a demon rounded the corner and entered the hall way I stood. Good news? She was a teacher. Bad news? She was a teacher.
"What do you think your doing out here? Huh, are you a punk? Do yo have any means of slip? Ill go over the code of the hall then write you up for detention." For a teacher she wasn't very mature. She didn't exactly let Me explain. She hardly even paused. She kept going on about how I need a slip or something. I kind of zeroed out focusing on my wing, it was sore and I could tell feathers were probably sticking out everywhere.
"Your not even listening to me are ya? Your race is all the same, featherheads who have no respect for the powerful." My brain caught on to that sentence. Probably out of the adapted instinct from Covelton. She must be a conservative. Why does she teach here then. I looked up from the space I've been staring at.
"Was it that obvious?" I played dumb. Probably not very smart as the next action she took was a raised backhand to my face. Huh, not so different from Covelton I guess. A little surprising that a teacher hits though. My hand must've went to my face to soothe the skin on my cheek. "the hell lady, I-"
"Hey Miss. Stien! Hes with me, Mrs.Gonzales sent us to the library," Caspian interrupted. Pulling at my arm.
"This is far from the library," Miss. Stien looked sick as soon as Caspian touched me.
"He got lost." Caspian smiled, "You know those feather heads, their so smart until you give them directions." Caspian ruffled my already messed up hair. I glared, pushing him off. Caspian retaliated my gripping my arm and walking away from the teacher.
"You should know Caspian!" The teacher yelled after us. What did she mean?
As soon as we were out of her sight, Caspian turned to look at me. "Shes a conservative."
"No, really?" I scoffed. I wish I was still over there with her instead of him. Caspian. Something wasn't right about him.
"Look, I just saved you, kinda be grateful," I rolled my eyes.
"Caspian, i'm gonna be honest with you," I started walking away in a direction."I don't like you. Your guilty."
"I'm guilty? " His footsteps sounded behind me until he was walking with me. "Of?"
I stopped ,Caspian mimicked. I looked at his character, every detail of his being. Caspian's blond hair was styled exactly as it was yesterday, the little sweep in the front. His green eyes still pierced. His clothing was the jock Letterman jacket, a shirt with a flamingo and a surfboard...His jeans is classic blue. Honestly, there wasn't much he could be guilty of... except the shirt I mean what?
Caspian stood looking impatient. I knotted my eyebrows and twist back to the direction I was going.
"Well?" His footsteps weren't far behind. "What am I guilty of Kaf?"
I clenched my fists. "Ugh, look I don't know but its of something."
The footsteps that weren't mine stopped a ways behind me.
"Its because i'm a demon isn't it?" I stopped. Did I overlook that. I can't be prejudice agianst demons, Metzi was a demon. But then again, at first I hated Metzi for that. I might still do. I turned fast.
I bit my lip and tapped my foot in aggravation. "Might be that." Caspian just shook his head.
"Well we don't handle racist here," Racist? How the hell does he get that! "So, get off your high horse." Caspian folded his arms across his chest.
The pain in my wing worsened as I scuffle them up instinctively. "Get off my high horse?!" My steps brought me closer to the demon. I poked his chest forcefully. "Is that how you explain the teacher just now? My fault?" He slapped my hand away, I threw it in the air. "Or what about Covelton? Is that my fault too?"
"It might've been. If you act like this to them." Caspian all but growled back, " You probably brought it upon yourself!"
"Your an ignorant-"
"No! Kafziel your the ignorant one!" He pushed back, "I bet you really loved Covelton, getting all the attention being the victim!"
Memories flooded, and apparently so did my eyes. "No Caspian," I stepped back. "I really hated it." I rowed back every gut feeling of punching the look of hurt or whatever look that was Caspian's face. "Screw you." I glared at the ground, for awhile we just stood there.
"Look-" Caspian was interrupted by an excited screaming Anna running out of her class to me. She wrapped an arm around me and kissed my cheek.
"Whats up big bro? Hey Cas," Caspian waved, "How was class."
I pulled Anna along holding up my schedule to her. This time Caspian didn't follow. "Class?"I rubbed my arm up and down. "Well it was missing a Kafziel."
Anna slapped my said arm. "You skipped." We were dodging other teens trying to get to class as Anna was navigating me to my class.
"No, I was lost, and me and Caspian had a fight." Anna's eyes went wide.
"That explains the red cheek," she took me to another hallway. "Here's your class."
"No, this," I pointed to my cheek. "Is something different, we had a verbal fight, ill text you about it later I guess. For now don't go near him." I looked around. "How do you know where to go?"
"I memorized the map." She hugged me and started leaving getting pushed by the others. "I'll text you later."
The classroom was small, seemed to be an art class. The students were varied on races but the majority of them demons. I picked the back of the class. The teacher was an angel who wore tacky bright colors together. Her hair was up in a bun and black glasses rested on her nose. She explained all the projects we have to do and seemed to not care what order we do them in. She played music and let us be on our way.
I opted for the simple level uno project. Draw something.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Class was going to an end and all I drew was a raven. I sighed and looked around. The door to the classroom opened and Satan himself walked in. But he wasn't alone, Caspian brought 'Sirus' along. They exchanged words with the teacher, and she nodded waving her hand to the desk before her. The international body language of a teacher for 'choose one'. It was then we locked eyes. Caspian could've rivaled my glare and 'Sirus' had the happiest face as he waved me down walking to the seats in the desk he opted the one beside me, and Caspian took the one in front of me..
"Your new right?" The other angel held out his hand, "I'm Domial, but you can call me dom." I took his hand and shook it. Thank fucking god.
"Kafziel, you can call me Kaf." I smiled, ignoring the feeling of eyes burning the side of my head.
"Wow that's a mouthful," He brought his attention to the paper before me. I could've sworn worry replaced the happy expression before it was back. "Is this the church of daomans mascot?"
"What?" I crooked my head.
Caspian spoke for the first time in his arrival, "You know the church of daomans. They're these huge cultist that believe angels and female demons are low, and should be slaved." He twist the paper towards him."Wow, the resemblance is fishy. Could almost suspect you," He gasped dramatically. "Guilty." He rested his head on his palm.
I glared. "I had no idea there was a group like that," I shook my head and gestured to my body. "As you can tell i'm also an angel." I know he was trying to finish our convo without bringing Dom into it. Nice try but i'm not a fish to bait.
Domial laughed, "Yeah we can tell. " He pointed to my wings, "Speaking of whats with the wings? No offense, but the boys on the field all have a bet to the answer."
"None taken," I waved him off. "I guess i'm popular if i can get the jocks talking about my wings." I laughed.
"Oh you have no idea, an angel being transferred here from Covelton, and so late too." he whistled " so much abuse you've experienced. My mom almost wanted to make you and your sister brownies."
It was unsettling for me, Covelton has been brought up twice today. Both by people who have no idea.
"Wait do you not want to groom them because of Covelton for a reason?" He said it way to excitedly.
"Umm, its complicated." Dom looked devastated at the answer.
"Pay up dom," Caspian smirked and held out his hand.
"But he said it was complicated." Domial argued.
"Wait," I turned to Caspian. "What did you bet?"
"That you have too much sex to properly groom your wings." Caspian leaned back in his chair.
I blushed. "Thats certainly not the answer." I glared.
"So you don't get any?"
"what-no-ugh." I rolled my eyes. "Subject change. "
They laughed at my answer. I glared. The bell rang and I shuffled my books in my bag.
"Hey Kaf," I turned to face Domial. "Want to go off campus for lunch? I have four tickets?"
This was actually quite considerable. Tickets were needed to get out of the gated campus, and I could really do with some free air. "Yeah, alright."
"Great, Meet us in the main entry. Its just gonna be Cas, Chet, you and I," I hope that's cool."
Cas grinned as he walked out. "Yeah that's cool," I'm surprised he didn't interrogate me on the tone I used. I want that demon out of my life.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My next period. Actual hell. All angels. Because the class was grooming. Plus side, the girls were cute, and everyone wanted to be my partner. But in the end my wings are now groomed. I hate to admit it to myself but they feel lighter and look lighter.
like instructed I waited in the main entry. I ended up really looking at the trophy case. Most of them first place. Some second place ribbons and signed footballs and then pictures of all the team members. Some dating back to the beginning of Hellmore, you can see how much they progressed in the years, some pictures with no angels, barely any, and half of them angels. It would've been heart warming but, these were pictures what if the angels were mistreated on the team.
My eyes drifted over the names. I got to the S's when a cough of announcement brought me back.
Caspian stood in front of me. Oh, yay. more time alone with him. I hate this dude.
"You groomed your wings?" I put my wings behind me. His face looked curious and then he just nodded. "That's understandable."
"What is? I asked. What does he understand now?
"You hiding your wings, not talking to me unless you make remarks." He waved his hand around, "Yada yada yada. This is where I apologize and you forgive me so when we meet again it wont be awkward." He smirked sarcastically.
"You are the most rudest person I have ever met. I hide my wings because last time you got close you stole feathers, which is mad weird and could be filed as harassment. Then you find out all this stuff about me, " He was about to object. "You have the code to my dorm man," He considered it for a moment then nodded smiling. "Don't get me started on today and forgiving you."
"Well your no saint your self sweetheart." He pinched the bridge of his nose. "I dont know what happened at Covelton-"
"Damn right you dont," I snapped.
"But," Caspian continued. "I think I would like to know?" He wants me to talk to him about what happened at Covelton. "Don't give me that look, I just want to know more about you if were gonna be friends."
"Were not going to be friends." I put that idea down quick. "What, were you hopping we could braid each others hair, paint our nails, gossip about the girls we like. Maybe even on movie nights i'll talk about Covelton." I looked at my watch , Domial wont be here yet, his class is halfway across the school.
"Your gonna be friends with Domial. You'll see more of me, trust me. They are gonna make you talk about it so i'm warning you now if your not comfortable with talking about it, I wouldn't go out for lunch."
"Warning me? " That doesn't even sound like a warning, "Who said i'm not comfortable talking about it. Maybe i'm not comfortable with you."
"Why? Because i'm a demon?"
"No," I stood straighter trying to make myself taller. "I used to think that's why I hated you." I crossed my arms across my chest. "But now I know its because your just a douche."
"Hey! Cas, Kaf. You ready?" Domial and another demon,Chet walked to us before Caspian could respond,"Yo, Kaf you looked pissed." I looked over to Caspian and his face was twisted into a grin.
I can play too Cas. "Nah, i'm good. Just noticed that all the vending machines don't have my favorite chips." Domial and Chet nodded like they understood.
"Sorry about that bud. But lets go to the car, we can go to this Italian place." Chet said, "By the way i'm chet." I was about to introduce myself, "Don't worry its cool, I know you, Domial and the team talked about you and your sister when you guys first arrived." Of course.
"Of course." I smiled. "I'm down for Italian, lead the way." Domial smiled back and both he and Chet got into a heated conversation about a project in one of their classes. I didn't have to look to know Caspian's famous smirk was playing on his face.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Italian place, well wasn't Italian. In fact the only thing close was the pizza and pasta. It was mostly american cuisine. Were sitting in a booth, demon to angel in each row because two extra appendages in a booth would've been a tight fit. I agreed with that. And for once I wasn't sitting by Caspian. Instead with Chet. We were all laughing and talking about games and game systems. I never owned one but Anna loved them. She would always pick on me about being a boy and never playing games.
"Yeah, Anna was the player of the family." I grinned talking about my favorite subject, my sister.
"I have Anna in most of my classes, shes super nice and chill." Chet added.
"I noticed she has a lot of clothes when we were helping you unpack." Dom said.
"Shes a pack rat all right, she was so excited to start her freshman year though. She could barely pick out her outfits to take."
"I bet," Dom laughed. "But I have to ask what your parents do, I mean obviously you can afford education if your going to Hellmore and went to Covelton."
"My mother went missing a couple years back," As soon as I finished the sentence I instantly regretted it, the whole table went grim. "We think she ran off, dont worry!" I quickly added taking a sip of my water. "My dad, he uh," I looked around at the awaiting ears. "He makes advertisements for a lot of companies so hes mostly gone."
"Wow, I thought it was gonna be sadder." Caspian said biting into a piece of the pizza.
" I know," I laughed.
"Not everyone has a tragic backstory Cas." Domial laughed along.
"I don't know," Chet seemed to get tense as he grinned into his drink, like he was preparing his next words carefully. "Cas, yours is pretty tough."
All the heads in the booth were looking at the silent demon in question as he was eating.
"So what?" Caspian shrugged, "Its not that sad." He talked in between bites. "Its not even sad."
Domial turned to me and rolled his eyes. "Chet makes it way worse than it is, Lil Cas here." He scuffled Caspian's hair a bit, "Hes only half demon, His mother was an angel and was raped."
"That explains the horns then." I gestured at Caspian's head. So he didn't get in a fight..
Caspian glared. "Its not as sad as Covelton though, right Kaffy?" I glared back. "What happened in Covelton anyway?"
Now the heads were turned to me. My glass of water was empty. I told Caspian I was comfortable talking about it but i'm not. I'm freaking terrified.
"Covelton," I searched for words. "I'm going to use the rest room."I blurted it out fast, but not as fast as I got up from the booth. My wing slapped Chet in the face in the hurry. "Sorry." I mumbled already halfway to the bathrooms.
I leaned over the single sink and stared at myself through the mirror. I didn't even look at the door when it opened the first time. The second time I couldn't help but glance. Domial walked in and stood next to me without saying anything. I spoke first.
"Covelton," I blinked hard. "Covelton was unimaginable if you were an angel. Demons would torture us. And I mean torture not bullying. Teeth pulling and all. The teachers were conservative as well, so the didn't help. Anna was 12, when they spilled acid on her, burning her torso. She was 12 Domial!" I rubbed my face. "They used us as personal objects, cigarette trays, and any other mean of having fun."
"Ignore Caspian, he thinks every things his business. I'm sorry."
"I'm not looking for apologies if I was, it wouldn't be from you." I kept staring at the drain in the sink.
"It wouldn't be from the demons in this school either." My eyes went wide, if anything it would be from them. "They are not from Covelton."
"But they're-"
"Demons, yeah I know. But their Hellmore's demons." he punched my arm lightly. "And were Hellmore's angels."
How could he be so trusting to them. The only demon I trust now is probably Metzi, and she earned that by just being a friend.
"Give them a chance Kafziel, Hellsmore Demons aren't bad." He smiled. "Now are foods getting cold." He began walking to the door.
Give them a chance my mind echoed as I began making my way to him. Then one of the stall doors opened. Curiously I looked forward to the stall closest to dom. around the same time Dom did the same. Standing In the middle of us was the raven.
"Domial.." I began.
"Who the hell are you?" Dom asked the raven. The raven didn't answer.
"Domial! Run!" I screamed, voice was scratchy in fear, but clear.
"Kaf its okay, just some asshole in a bird costume." The raven turned to me and began walking. The dream one wasn't as detailed as this one. The ravens eyes were yellow with black dots for pupils. The raven didn't look like he was staring at me, but I knew. My hands clenched the sink behind me as the ravens face got closer to mine. I dared to look down and I saw the hook.
"Your supposed to be a dream," I quietly said to the raven. The raven moved his head slowly shaking his head. A hand appeared on the ravens shoulder and domial was behind him. "No Dom, just run please!"
Domial didn't listen. "You need to back up!" As soon as he finished the hook came swinging up and locking into his jaw. When domial opened his mouth you could see the hooks tip. As quickly as it went in it came out. Domial stumbled and fell clutching his jaw. He began muffling but his wounded tongue made it unclear.
"Domial!" I screamed and tried to rush for my friend but a fist met my face and grabbed me by the shoulders flinging my head down on the sink. I sank to the floor uncoordinated from the attack. I twisted my body to Domial and the raven. Unlike the dream raven this one ended dom quickly with a blow to his head.
Domials body fell back lifelessly. Blood made the white tiles red. My vision was adjusting so I decided I need to make a run for it. I used the sink to stand. The raven pulled out a saw from his jacket and began sawing ofF Domials wings.
Hes in the middle of that if i'm gonna run I need to do it now. As quickly as I could I ran.
When I almost made it to the door the first stall by the door opened. Another raven stepped out and grabbed me. I struggled but that didn't help as a cloth came in contact with my nose. And I was numbly placed by the sink, where I could see Domial. Clearly. The cloth smelled sweet and like a cleaner. Then my senses were gone and then I was. The last noise I heard was the door opening.
My eyes opened. I was met by a shocked Chet and a Cas running toward me. But I didn't stay awake.
