“…you knew this would happen…” A voice called out dully. “…didn't you.” It wasn't as much of a question as it was a statement.
Deep brown eyes closing, a ghost of a smile graced his lips. “Who knows…”Looking down from his perch, he watched as a familiar figure walked through the snow. Her shoulder length black hair being but a smudge in the field of white, he opened his eyes a smidgen to memorize her attire.
Chuckling softly, he turned back to face the dark cloudless sky above. Drops of white steadily falling, his smile widened just a bit. “Did I ever tell you what I like so much about this place?” He started.
Emerald eyes drifting around, her frown deepened as all she saw was an endless field of snow. Snow and a dead tree with a traitor sitting along its leafless branches, “…no, you didn't.” He never really told her much about himself, or anyone for that matter. “It’s completely empty.” She commented slowly. “What’s there to like?”
Humming softly in wistful amusement, his form softly faded out of existence. Blank look still present on her face, she wasn't all that surprised when he materialized inches away from her person. “I guess that would be the point.” He silently whispered, hands motioning towards her. And just like that, he moved forward dissolving into misty snow the moment his fingers touched her cheek. “It is empty, and because it is empty…I know it’s just waiting to be filled. It is a place where things shall end…and at the same time…begin…”
…it was cold. So very, very cold, “…must you always be so dramatic?” she asked faintly. Eyes still looking forward, she ignored the man’s soft chuckling as leaned against the tree, and though it was only meters away. It felt so much more. “Its things like this that always gets you in trouble.” But despite the accusing tone in her words, she couldn't stop the smile that seeped into her pale skin.
“And you were always the one to bail me out.” He replied with a teasing grin. “…you were always by my side…through thick and thin no matter how hard things got…” Grin turning wistful, he didn't react with the corners of his left eye began to fade
“…But that stops now, doesn't it?” She finished smile cracking. “A traitor not only on one side, but the other as well…” Tilting her head forward, bangs shadowing her eyes, she continued. “…hated not by one, but by all…”
“…and cursed to be forgotten in the fragments of reality itself…for the things I did and have yet to do.” He finished with a whisper. “You know what that means…don’t you.”
“…a curse?” she repeated slowly. “Is that what you think it is?”
Eyeing her for a moment, he simply hummed in thought. “Who knows…maybe it is, and maybe it isn't. Who can really tell?” He snorted.
Staying silent, she simply took a single step forward. “It was, and never will be, a curse.” She said simply. “It was all you. It always was, and had always been, you.” Taking another step forward, she stopped moments later when she noticed something missing on the corner of her eyes.
Smile never leaving his face, he simply continued to hum a small soft tune. “You’re completely right.” She is completely right. “The ability to make dreams into a reality…nightmares into monsters…two sides of the same coin…but separate all the same,” split apart by the thin road of grey. “What are your thoughts on it?” He asked.
Her reply was quick and merciless, “It’s a perfect ability for someone who runs away from reality.” She bit out spitefully as walked closer. “It’s a perfect power for a coward like you.” Eye’s narrowing into slits; she slowed her pace when that smile of his was still present on his face. “But like all dreams, the dreamer will always have to wake up and face life as it is.” She came to a stop just bare feet’s away from him digging her nails into her palm when she noticed, that his eyes were still accepting…still ever so peaceful.
Raising a brow in amusement, he reached out to ruffle her hair like he always has before, only for her to pull away. “And like all dreamers, dreams will always be there in the end.” He chuckled pulling back his hand. “For without dreams, life will just be oh so dull!” He chirped.
Feeling something snap; she pulled back her arm and slammed her fist forward. “WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS SO CALM!?” She shouted angrily as a cracking sound pierced through the night. Shoulders shaking, she glared at the man before her with eyes filled with hatred and scorn. “After everything you've done, after all the lives you've ruined, the friends you've torn apart…the families…” She whispered voice cracking. “Why do you always have that smile on your face?” Pulling back her arm, she took a couple steps back as her eyes began to water. “You've betrayed your friends…your family,” She whispered hoarsely. “And in the end, you betrayed the people who you betrayed them for. You’re a traitor on both sides…so why…” Tear’s slowly streaming down her cheeks, “…why, even after destroying everything you had…everything you've loved…do you still have a reason to smile for?”
Why are you always smiling? Why do you never show you tears? Why don’t you beg for forgiveness? You don’t try to escape. You never lie. You never show your pain. You never rely on anyone. You never ask for help. There were so many questions that she just want to scream at him with all her might. But even as she opened her lips, and the question she never wanted an answer to, was voiced out as her expression of fury melted into one of sorrow. “Why…why is that for the first time since I've met you…that you look so much at peace…when you are just about to disappear?” She asked wearily. Don’t you even care!? She wanted to say.
Humming in silence, brown eyes turned around to see the small split in wood where her fist fazed through him. Reaching forward, he pressed his right hand against the splintered area, only to watch as it fazed right through. Pulling it back after a moment, he lingered on his transparent hand before slowly turning around. “The ability to create something from nothing…” He started. “…it is a power that can grant false miracles, and also caused disasters.” Something he’s been the cause of. “It is only temporary, and the limits are many, but once you reach the pinnacle, a true miracle can occur.” Meeting Sarah’s teary eyes, he couldn't help but lean forward. “I can do any one thing, be it traveling to the past, or bringing someone back from the dead, but like everything, it comes with a price.”
Taking a couple steps back, Sarah simply watched as he came ever so closer. “What wish…nothing’s changed,” She mumbled. “…nothing at all.”
Tilting his head to the side, he cupped her right cheek softly, but froze when it began to fade at the touch. Hand vanishing into dust, his smile widened. “The price for a wish…a wish that is made to bring something from nothing…is that something must take its place.” Slowly but surely, as he continued to draw closer to her, he could just feel it as the remaining bits of his arm faded away. “But you don’t need to worry…” He whispered, his nose stopping just inches from hers. “Because I've already made my wish…” ‘…and whether you notice or not is something’s I’ll never know.’
Shaking slowly coming to a stop, she didn't turn away and stared right back into his eyes. Even as he began to fade out of existence, she didn't look away. Just as she was about to speak, he simply pulled back with a wide playful grin after flicking her forehead with his remaining arm. “Hey!” She exclaimed.
Laughing softly, he softly glided back towards the base of the tree. “You've already noticed its effects, haven’t you?” He asked curiously.
Glaring at him, she simply wiped away the tears that gathered around her eyes with a scowl. “You’re being forgotten...”
Shaking his head, he ignored the fact that his legs from the toes up began to slowly fade from the fingers up. “Eh~…that’s close, but that’s just the effects of having my wish granted.” He hummed amusingly. “As you said before, I will disappear.” He started with a small grin. “My existence will slowly fade away after the wish is granted. My records, my crimes, my name, even the memories people have that have me in them will be all disappear.” Grin widening as Sarah’s eyes began to widen in realization, he continued. “The people I've betrayed will forget me first. Your memories of me will be erased. And when people finally forget that the world-wide criminal Cyan Locke never existed to begin with…and right in the end, when only one person remembers,” he said, voice lowering just above a whisper as his eyes never left Sarah’s. “…when that one person finally forgets, will my wish finally be answered…” Closing his eyes, his smile finally dropped. “…and that is when my existence shall be erased. That…is the price of a true miracle.” ‘Though the price depends all on the person though,’ not that he was going to say that.
Turning to meet her eyes once more, he wasn't surprised to see rage in there. ‘After all…I’m just returning something that never really belonged to me.’ “So…in the end you running away again,” She muttered under her breath. “Running and running and running, why do you always have to run away instead of facing life head-on?” She continued voice rising.
Nodding, he just smiled instead of denying it all. ‘Ah…this is so much better than ending things in a teary goodbye…’ He had enough of those the first time around. Everything went as he expected them to…everything…except for her. Because without even realizing it, somehow, someway, Sarah had all but appeared in front of him tightly burying her fingers into his shoulders…shoulder’s she shouldn't have even been able to physically touch.
“Don’t think that you’ll get away that easy!” She hissed pulling him down by the collar to meet her face to face. “I've had enough of you running away! I don’t care if you’re wiping yourself from existence, because I've dealt with the trouble you've caused me for a whole sixteen years!” Ignoring the fact that his lower half had all but vanished, she focused entirely on the surprise in his eyes. “So whether you like it or not, I will make you face reality for the things you've done!” Glaring right into his eyes, she did something that he would never really expect from the normally respectful person Sarah was. “Because even if you vanish right here and now, I’ll just drag you cowardly ass out of whatever hell you've ended up in just to give you your deserved beat down before stuffing down the words I…have…not…forgotten down your skinny little throat!!” She cussed…
…and she head-butted him right between the eyes that whipped his head back from the force of it. Dazed, he blinked once, twice, and trice times, before he could only stare at her in muted bemusement. Lips twitching into a grin, he decided to do something that would have been equivalent to suicide had the situation been different. “O just can’t do it after all,” Form vanishing for a brief moment, he shocked Sarah just enough for her to let go of his collar. And after that moment, the pieces of him that had vanished reappeared as he forced himself into solid form. “I’m not saying that I actually believe what you’re saying, but how about I just add another crime to the list of things for you to remember?” He hummed in eerie amusement. “And if you don’t…then I guess I’ll get the last word in after all!”
Blinking in confusion, she shook her head from side to side. “Weren't you…wait—what are you going too—“Feeling his hands cup her chin, her eyes widened in surprise at his next words. “My last crime…the theft of a kiss from a beautiful woman…”‘…who had stolen my heart…’ Feeling his lips press against her own, the last thing she could register was his warm brown eyes before he had all but faded away into the night. The only evidence of him ever being there was the soft cool sensation present on her lips.
