Safe to say, Lily was a caffeine addict. She could chug down ten cups of coffee a day like it's water, especially now that she's in college. Now her trip to the coffeeshop was becoming frequent, not because of the work keeping her up: it's all thanks to Cameron - the new and oh-so-hot barista. Currently she more or less dragged her friends to accompany her with her daily fix (and to make her Cameron-stalking discreet).
Just seeing his smile could brighten her day. He had his hair in some sort of undercut and a very small bun tied on his head, thick brows framing his eyes. His eyes would have to be Lily's favorite thing about him, it was blue - cobalt blue, to be exact - that crinkles on the edge every time he smiles. And his smile - oh no! - it was a mixture of devilish and boyish that you'd let him do whatever he wants with you without any protests. It was accompanied with dimples so deep she wondered if it hurts having those. She also guessed he was 19-ish or so (although it's just her refusing to believe he was five years older than her).
It was unfortunate that she and Cameron didn't go at the same high school, or else she would have done anything to get his attention. She first saw him when they were at the state regional about a year ago. Poor guy was manning one of the food stand littering at the entrance and she thanked her lucky stars that she offered to buy her friends their food or else, she wouldn't have met her destiny - err, Cameron.
Lily also wondered if he's still, you know, studying. You see, she always noticed that he had jobs left and right: at the bar, at the market delivering vegetables, one of the food stalls at an amusement park or at the stadium, and here at the coffeeshop. In case you're wondering, she wasn't stalking him. Not at all.
She only knew a handful of things like: he had two your brothers and an older sister who was married to the town's sheriff, his family was living in an apartment four block away from theirs. She also knew he plays basketball at 5 PM on a Sunday with a green jersey shorts and a snug wife beater sticking on his sweaty (and not to mention fit) body.
Nope. Lily wasn't a stalker. Not at all.
Audrey was still conversing with Lily, although her response was half-hearted. Maryssa was sitting beside her, silent as she took dainty sips on her latte. Lily was kind of envious with her silent friend who can choose whether to join or ignore their conversation altogether.
When the wind-chime clanged signalling a new costumer, her eyes darted almost immediately to him or her. Don't ask her, it's . . . reflexes. "Oh. Em. Gee." she breathed when the hot guy strolled in. Audrey curiously followed where her gaze was and soon enough, they were giggling, fanning themselves. That's one of their skills, they can detect a fine piece of specimen within a five-mile radius.
"He's so an eleven!" Audrey squealed and giggled under her palm. Lily half-heartedly agreed (again) and continued eyeing the costumer (she may have let her eyes drift down his ass, too) who was now rattling his order. She could hear Audrey nagging Maryssa on the background.
Lily couldn't help but compare those two fine specimen. Even though Newcomer was no doubt more handsome than Cameron, she still thought that he - Cameron - beat him to the punch. Whilst the Newcomer had a dangerous and an alpha male aura in him, her Barista had this bright and outgoing vibe that she liked. For those who were wondering, yes, her opinion's biased. Well, let's just say that . . . she's loyal to a non-existent commitment with the barista.
Newcomer turned and leaned his back on the counter while waiting for his order to finish; it was exactly in their line of vision. That was also the time when Maryssa raised her eyes towards him and their gaze met.
Sizzle sizzle. Tss.
From Lily's peripheral she saw her friend quickly withdrawing from their eye contact and sipped from her drink, as she met Cameron's gaze. Lily offered him a smile, in which he returned with a brighter one. Even from the distance, his eyes was bright that your panties would just drop and melt along with your insides.
When she focused on other things (specifically Newcomer) she realized something: the guy was making his way towards their booth and he was smiling. Another panty-dropper in the midst! But mind you, Cameron's still on her top list. The newcomer's gaze, though, was solely focused on the girl beside her - Maryssa - and his rather intense gaze was laced with an emotion . . . she longed to feel. Love.
Audrey was also giggling, although Lily waa giggling for an entirely different reason: the guy's fucking whipped!
A screeching sound broke the silence of the shop, and they turned their head to see that Maryssa was shoving her stuff in her purse. She claimed that there was an emergency and quickled scuffled from the shop, the chime banging loudly with her hasty escape. When Lily swung her head back at the Newcomer (that might be his name for eternity if someone refused to tell her his name), she saw the crestfallen look on his face and faltered in his step.
But the look was gone as soon as it came, his face contorting with determination as he gazed on the door Maryssa had just gone. Shooting them an apologetic look he said, "Uhm. Laters?" They gave him a slow nod, jaw hanging slightly and that was that; he was off. Off to Maryssa.
"Wow. That was . . . dramatic!" Audrey exclaimed when the poor chime clanged once again. She nodded. It was dramatic indeed. "Do you think we should follow them?" Audrey was wiggling her eyebrows. "You know, just to make sure they won't do anything we wouldn't do."
"You think they would go hanky-panky in the middle of . . . of - ugh. We won't follow them, okay?" she stated and fixed her things. Audrey did the same. "Besides, we still have to work on our presentation due next week, aye?"
On their way out Audrey was still muttering what a lucky bitch Maryssa was, shagging a hot guy like that and a few more colorful words. Lily ignored her, and casted one more glance at the love of her life. Their eyes met and once again he gave her a heart-stopping, panty-dropping smile. Something akin to hope bubbled within her.
Maybe, just maybe, she would get to feel how love felt like.
Finally.
