It was the week before Christmas, the snow was endless for days now. We ran out to recess after lunch to play in the snow; well… all of us but Thomas. Mr. Eagleton told us it was because he was sick, but we all knew the truth. We all knew that the real reason he couldn’t play outside was because he was too poor to afford a good winter coat. Thomas was too proud to admit it but we all saw the disadvantages he had everyday. We saw him skip lunch and say it was for some weird diet his mom put him on , even though he looked like a twig. We all saw him leave for the computer lab before our field trip to an art museum, even when he went on and on at lunch about how excited he was. We all saw the teacher pack extra food into his backpack before school was out. Anyway, I had him for secret santa and I really wanted to give him something special. That day after school was out; I walked over to a local sporting store, with my piggy bank in my backpack, and got this great thick red winter coat from all the way in the back of the store. It was perfect for him, seeing how red was his favorite color. I went to pay for it handing my piggy bank to the cashier; he pulled out my small amount of change that was inside.735Please respect copyright.PENANAoUC2r9k9eV
“Who is this for?” The cashier said nudging his head towards the red coat.
“It’s for Thomas. It's his Christmas present,” I said explaining to young high school age cashier. 735Please respect copyright.PENANAKS7EBS8uYo
“Alright then…Here you go.” as he handed back my piggy bank now empty with my receipt. I walk all the way to my house and put the present in a bag with a note that says “ From: Santa”.
As I put the present on his doorstep and ring the doorbell. I run for cover. He comes to the door and takes the bag with a smile spread wide across his skinny face. On my walk over I realize that i must’ve ripped the tag because it was in my pocket. The tag said $30, but i could have sworn I only had fifteen in my piggy bank.
