"Why the hell'd they let their one successful experiment get out?" Rick asked, placing the tranquilizers into his rifle.
"They didn't let it out," Frank pointed out, doing the same with his own weapon "it escaped- like I told y' before, the thing's too smart for its own good, this whole place gives me shivers..."905Please respect copyright.PENANAy8Y8s2zAnx
"As long as it pays well" Rick shrugged, adjusting his protective vest. 905Please respect copyright.PENANABF6cjnDAHc
Frank flipped the shield on his helmet down, covering his face.
"Ready?"
"As I'll ever be" the other shrugged.
She was finally free-
*BANG*
Well, not quite...
She turned the corner, tripping two more guards as she ran. She skittered across the linoleum floor, and continued down the hall, small syringes flying over head. Her eyes scanned any possible escape routes- but where- there!
She ducked into another hall, her lithe body twisting as she found a small storage closet. Yanking it open, she entered quickly, the smell of cleaning products and a water-filled mop bucket filling her nostrils. Her tattered ear flicked up, pressing against the door as she reduced her gasping breaths to shallow ones. The sound of boots thumping against the linoleum floor made themselves known. Two sets, if she wasn't mistaken. Her hands flew up and grasped at the wall, then pulled herself up, her feet following. Scrabbling up the wall, she rested on the ceiling, effectively gluing herself to it. For good measure, she pressed into the frame of the door, disguising herself in the arch of it.
The door opened, somewhat hesitant, the barrel of a gun poking through. The door was fully opened, and a guard clad in black, protective clothing entered. He (or was it a she?) searched the closet, and turned, rifle still at the ready, as he/she turned.
"Alright, looks like-"
Male, definitely sounded like a male.
The glass visor tilted up, and stared at her for a brief second. The guard jumped, and screamed as he prepared his rifle, lifting the barrel. She screamed right back, mostly to intimidate him, and escaped the closet, delivering a swift kick to the guard's helmet as she did so. Another guard was waiting in the hall, and raised his rifle, preparing to fire. She paid him no mind, and kept skittering along the ceiling. The sound of a rifle discharging made itself known, and she looked back, watching the guard in the hall crumple to the ground, due to the rifle's misfire. She felt a small grin spread across her mouth, but it quickly disappeared.
Ahead of her, a group of guards were standing before a heavily reinforced door, their rifles at the ready. Taking a running start, she pushed off the ceiling, rocketing towards the guards as they fumbled with their weapons.
"Shoot it! Shoot it!" one of them shouted, aiming at her.
The unit was soon dissolved into a clambering cacophony.
One managed to fire- she ducked, forcing the syringe to lodge itself into the compatriot's chest, piercing the armor. One by one, they each fell, shooting where they weren't supposed to, and disarming them for her. Soon, only one guard remained, fiddling with his rifle as he tried to reload it as quickly as possible. She jumped at him, attaching herself to his helmet as she screamed, baring her teeth menacingly. The guard fainted dead away, falling to the floor. She sprung forward, and ran a number of combinations for the key pad attached to the door. It hissed as it opened, and she crawled through.
The night was quiet, the moon hung high, its glorious white shape illuminating the dark grounds of the facility. A gunshot echoed somewhere from inside as the door clanged shut. She immediately snapped out of her daze, and bolted, scampering into a heavily wooded area, her legs pumping rapidly.
I left the library, waving goodbye to Anne, who was seated behind the desk.
"See you bright and early tomorrow!" she said happily, waving back.905Please respect copyright.PENANACtqo2ZkDLG
"Sure thing" I replied.
The door closed, and I groaned to myself, rubbing my face with my free hand, the other securing a few books and papers.
I turned, and walked down the street- passing cars and other people along the way.
I lived in a fairly small town, though it wasn't very large either...it was somewhere between a quiet, out of the way town, and a larger city- that's about as best as I can describe it. After the long walk back home, I tiredly inserted the key into the deadbolt, and turned it. Removing the key, I entered, tossing the key ring onto the coffee table as I set the books down on the kitchen table. Shucking off my jacket, I found my savior- the couch. Flopping down, I laid one arm over my eyes, and waited for sleep to take me.
Much to my misfortune, it didn't...
I begrudgingly stood, and began walking through the dark house, blindly searching for the light switch.
I was halted, however, as my boot met a leg of the coffee table, rather harshly, I might add. I swore, clutching my injured foot, as I flicked the light switch, flooding the once-dark room with light.
