“Are you sure this is the right choice my girl?” Aspen asked. “You want to leave me in charge of Blackbough?”
I nodded as I dressed in my boiled leather jacket.
“Yes. I need someone I trust in charge if the Lord Admiral denies to join me. If he does, I must take my little host of loyal men and march back here in shame. I can’t leave for the Easterlands without his Silver Armada. I need that dwarf.”
“And this little host is enough to conquer a kingdom?” He asked dubiously.
I sighed.
“I will have allies there. I am certain of it. I have sent Lady Dawn of House Oakenshield a letter. She helped me get here so I think she’ll be willing to support me, to convince her lord father to support me. Besides, Fek has given me a thousand five hundred Hobgoblin Wolfriders and you convinced one hundred and fifty dwarves to come with me for the promise of later rewards, honor and experience in battle.” I knew reputation was important for dwarves. “I have twelve knights with their families and two hundred Men-at-Arms. I know it’s barely an army, but I am convinced lordly Houses will join my cause. The Red Queen isn’t very well liked.”
Aspen shook his head and sighed. I knew he thought I put to must of hope of aid, but as Naeryan had told me a few days past I would be less likely to get support if I had a large host of foreigners to their lands. But I needed those I already had, and the Silver Armada. The largest mercenary fleet I knew of, probably the largest in the world I imagined.

I raised my tankard to clash with three other tankards. My freeholder crewmates and I cheered as we celebrated our victory. Our Lord Captain had, a bannerman to my House, had led us against an Easterland Carrack.
“They never saw us coming!” One of my mates cheered.
I laughed with them. The forty survivors of the fight all celebrated in the tavern. One of them slapped my back.
“Nobody can ever say you ain’t a warrior, Golic!” He had declared.
They laughed and I remembered cutting down the captain and two other crew members. I emptied my tankard of ale and spilled half of it. I wasn’t sure if it was the eighty or twelfth. But I knew I had to take a piss so I left the tavern for a moment and stalked out onto the street and looked around. It was night and I only saw beggars and whores around.
I staggered to the alley on the side of the tavern and did my watering in it. It looked like others had had the same idea. I heard a whore yelling. Something about paying for her service and gut him like a pig. After I finished my business I turned about, yet before I took my third step there was a woman in my way. A pretty one. It took me a long moment to realize that it was an elf, though I had no idea which type of elf. I thought there was three of them.
“Who would you be?” I asked.
I saw she had a big part of her face burned and two fingers missing off her right hand. There was hatred in her bright green eyes. she came at me before I could react and a dagger struck my throat. I groped at the wound withy my hands and fell back into the mess I had made just a moment before. My hands found a stream of blood. I felt pain and a strange cold feeling.663Please respect copyright.PENANAPdBunijpUt
