Gasp!
I sat up straight in my bed. I looked down then gently placed my hand on my head and ran my fingers through my soft black hair. That was some serious dream I had. I sighed then glanced at my watch on my right wrist to see that it was a little past 6 pm. Shit, I thought. I'm going to be late for class if I don't hurry up. I sighed again and started to get out of my bed when I heard a loud thud at my front door. I raised my eyebrows in curiosity then stood up and started to make my way over to the front door, walking through my Japanese apartment.
I turned the knob and slowly opened up the front door. My dark eyes were automatically drawn to a male body on the ground outside my door, his head facing me. This never happen before. I mean, of course people showed up at my door before. Sometimes unannounced too, but I never had a stranger passed out in front of my door before. I wasn't sure what to do but the first reaction I had was to knelt down and see if I can wake the boy up.
I started to gently shake his shoulder. "Hey...are you alright?" I asked even though I knew I probably wasn't going to get an response back but it never hurts to try to see if he'll wake up right in front of me.
I shook the boy again, this time extra hard but he never woke up. I bit down on my bottom lip then sighed. I really didn't want to take him to the hospital, only to find out that nothing is wrong with him. Maybe...he passed out from a heat stroke or dehydration? The weather has been ridiculously hot lately so i'm not gonna be surprised if this is actually the case but I should probably bring him inside where it's cooler.
I placed my hands under the boy's armpits and started to drag his body inside my apartment. I gently but forcefully closed my front door then continued to drag the boy. I dragged him all the way over to my bed and laid him down on it. My apartment is pretty small and my living room is kinda my bedroom too.
Once I had the boy laying on my bed in a comfortable position, I sat on my legs right next to him and looked him over. He looked kinda young. Like...maybe sixteen with me being nineteen and currently taking college classes. I moved out of my parents house once I graduated high school. They wanted me to become the next doctor in the family but I refused and of course when I refused, my dad also refused to help pay my apartment rent and college classes. My mom was the typical caring mom and tried to get my dad to understand why I choose to take another career path but...he didn't budge. He's stubborn like that. So now, I pay my apartment rent and college classes plus food all by myself. How you might ask? I have a full time job at a bookstore in the city. It doesn't pay as much but it pays enough for me to get by. I never liked the idea of having a roommate so that's why I don't have one to help me with rent and food. I'm...kinda a loner. Always have been since middle school. I never liked being around people or making friends much and I was even more of a loner by high school.
I sighed as I pulled myself out of my thoughts then looked over at the boy again. I decided to go ahead and check his body to make sure he didn't have any wounds. What from? I don't know. There's something about this boy that's making me feel drawn to him. I checked his neck for any neck injuries then I lifted up his white shirt a little bit to see if he had any wounds on his stomach. I started to notice that this boy had on my school's uniform even though I've never seen him before. I shook my curiosity away and continued to look over his body. I turned over his left arm to check for injuries when I noticed a really cool but odd looking tattoo on his arm in the middle of his arm, right below his wrist. It's a picture of a thunderbolt. It looks like a tattoo but then again, it doesn't. I can't put my finger on it. I shrugged then turned his arm back over and sat back.
I sat there, staring at him for a couple more seconds before I took another glance at my watch. "Shit, I have to go." I said outloud then turned and started to get up when a hand quickly grabbed hold of my wrist.
I looked over my shoulder at the boy to see that it's his hand that's holding onto my wrist. I looked carefully at his face to see his eyes starting to open up. My eyes widen and my eyebrows rose. I sat back on my legs and watched as the boy opened up his soft dark eyes. I stared at him and he stared at me. It was pretty much a staring contest till he looked away then quickly sat up. My reflexes then kicked in. I placed both of my hands on his arms.
"Hey, maybe you shouldn't...." I said.
He then looked at me and stared again. I stared back at him once more and waited for him to say something to me when he started to move forward and planted his lips against mine. My eyes grew large like a deer in headlights. I sat there, surprised and not sure what to do. I mean, a random stranger with a weird looking thunderbolt tattoo is kissing me. What would you do?
Finally, he pulled away then got up from the bed. I sat there, still frozen for a minute before I stood up also. I quickly grabbed onto his wrist to make him stop walking. I wracked my brain for something to say to this odd stranger that just kissed me out of nowhere but all I came up with was,
"Who are you?"
The boy turned to me and I let go of his wrist. That's when I noticed that the boy was at least a couple inches shorter than me. I waited for him to answer my question but instead, he looked down and the expression on his face was telling me that he was trying to think of something to say.
"I...I don't know." He responded softly.
I narrowed my eyes in confusion. Did he have amnesia?
"Do you have amnesia?" I asked the million dollar question.
He avoided my eyes and shrugged. "I don't know...I can't remember what happened before I passed out." He answered.
I slowly nodded then replayed the scene in my head. Okay, some strange boy who has a really weird thunderbolt tattoo on his left arm, kissed me randomly and passed out in front of my apartment door and not only that but he can't even remember his name or what he was doing before he ended up on my doorstep. What to do...
I sighed for like the millionth time then checked my watch. I'm seriously late right now and if I don't leave in the next two minutes, i'm going to be counted as tardy and my teacher will have a cow.
"Okay well I've got to go. You can stay here I guess until I come back. You can watch tv or read some of my books and magazines. There's also some food in the fridge in case you get hungry but I've got to go now." I said then brushed past him and started to get ready to go. I pulled off my pj bottoms and put on my school's black pants then grabbed my book bag and apartment keys.
I walked over to the boy. "I've gotta go now. Oh and my name is Kanijo." I said with a soft smile then turned and started to walk towards the front door when he spoke up.
"Wait!"
I turned back around and faced him. He looked down and shuffled on both of his feet then rubbed his arm.
"C-can...I come with you?"
I raised an eyebrow.
"I...I don't want to be here by myself..."
I slowly nodded like I understood. He seemed pretty nervous about something and I wasn't sure what but I wasn't about to say no and tell him to stay here by himself. I suppose it wouldn't hurt if he tagged along. Though, he can't come to class with me.
"Suuure. I guess you can come." I replied.
Then the boy looked at me with a huge smile.
