Perseus stood in shock. Odd words fell upon his ears as he stumbled backward from the scene before him. Perhaps his father’s bolt of lighting affected him during the battle and he was suffering from a sleeping sickness. Weird creatures surrounded him with eager faces. The monsters were like none he had seen or heard of before. He wondered which member of his family had sired them. Poseidon often had a gift of creating peculiar offspring.
Perseus tightened his sweaty grip on his shield and sword. They spoke in a language that was also foreign to him. One creature floated towards him and Perseus stepped quickly to the side. It appeared to be nothing but a piece of cloth. Another monster crept forward touching his shield. It bore a shell on its back and sported a bald scalp with a tuff of hair around the rim of a rough skinned head. Its beak snapped open and closed as it shouted to another creature.
The forest that surrounded him was unfamiliar. To the west a single large mountain stood tall with a large white cap. It was not Mount Olympus. This confused him even further. Mount Olympus was the tallest mountain, yet this peak reached farther into the heavens.
The next creature reminded Perseus of a cyclops. Most likely Poseidon created the poor soul. The body, made of pale flesh, walked upon its hands and feet. Place upon its derriere was a single eye. When the cheeks clenched, the eye blinked. No face was formed on its head. Perseus was thankful it did not have a mouth to contribute to the mass of voices. Instead, it stood blinking at him. Perseus shifted his gaze elsewhere uncomfortable.
Slowly, a large shadow formed above him. Perseus cranked his neck high to view the monster that blocked the sunlight. His eyes grew wide in alarm. Possibly one of Hades children, a large bare skeleton loomed over him. Upon further inspection, Perseus noticed the skeleton’s bone structure contained different shades and colors. His face began to whiten. The different color bone mass was from individual skeletons it must have absorbed, adding to its bulk.
Panic welled inside him. Were these creatures outcaste by the gods? Too powerful and grotesque for mortal souls to view?
At last, a bright form began to make its way towards him. It had to be one of his divine siblings or uncles. He would be saved from the odd assortment of monsters before him. Instead it was a woman with dark black hair whose presences held a bright illumination Perseus was sure she was not part of his father’s family. He slowly started to back away.
“Tell me young Greek, how did you manage to cross into our lands?” the woman spoke. Perseus blinked a few times and relief spread across his face. She spoke his language. He bowed in respect.
“Goddess, I am unsure of where my location is. I am Perseus, son of Zeus,” he said proudly.
The Goddess watched him intrigued. “Son of Zeus? You are far from home young one.”
“I am unsure of how I came to be here. I awoke with your” he paused for a moment, “children surrounding me.”
A bright laugh chimed from the Goddess. “I am Amaterasu, Goddess of the sun and universe. You are in Japan, far east of your country. Come. We have much to talk about,” she slowly extended her bright golden hand. Perseus frowned in confusion. Shifting his sword into his shield hand, he gently grasped her hand. He had never heard of such a Goddess. Helios was the sun god, and no god was above Zeus. Perseus feared it was going to be very difficult to explain these events to his father.
