Article: How could we have stopped WW2? World War 2 involved warfare on an absolutely massive scale, bigger than any previous war (including the Great War/WW1). Many people died, both on the front lines and at home. So surely all the necessary steps were taken to avoid it? Well, surprisingly the answer is no. It could easily have been stopped if Chamberlain had been more authoritative. When the Germans invaded Czechoslovakia, Britain should have drove the Germans out as they were allied with Czechoslovakia. Although there would still be fighting, it would have been on a much smaller scale.
Fact:
Britain hasn’t been invaded since the Romans!
Short Story: On the front
Like a tiger hunting for its food, Alpha team stalked through the woods. They knew why they were here: to grab the hostage and get him out safely. A simple rescue mission.
They came to a clearing in the trees, and saw the town below them. Danny, the team’s designated sniper, moved along the ridge to a position that overlooked the target house. Ali was on spotting duty: he marked out the houses which were abandoned and pointed out any activity. The rest of the team descended towards the town and split up into three groups of two.
Danny loaded his sniper and locked on to the house as the team moved into position. On command, they stormed the house and took out three of the enemies on the lower level. As they moved up into the second floor, two more militiamen began opening fire. Fortunately for Alpha, the two were not trained marksman and so missed their shots. They were taken out quietly, and Alpha team grabbed the hostage.
They were about to move back to the LZ when Danny came on the radio to tell them that the enemy had called for backup. Two cars came barrelling down the path, and skidded to a stop outside of the house in which Alpha was set up. Danny took a breath, and began firing. He managed to take out the driver and 2 of the 3 passengers in the first car, before taking out another 1 from the second car. The rest of the militiamen ran into cover to hide from Danny on the ridge.
Alpha team took this chance and ran outside, behind the enemy. The militiamen couldn’t turn around in time and they were taken out. Another car came speeding down the road and once again Danny was on the militiamen like a hawk, and took out all but one. The final man ran back into the car to grab his pistol, but when he turned around immediately dropped it as he was confronted by Alpha team. He took off running down the road, but was picked off by Ali. The team regrouped at the entrance to the woods and began trekking back to the LZ.
