I wake up, feeling groggy. I'm on the ground. Why am I on the ground? I look up. A girl's standing at my side, staring at me. She has amazingly deep green eyes. She leans over and asks if I remember her. I try to recall, but my mind's blank.
"Sorry, no... have we met...?"
She starts crying and moves away.
My mind feels numb. Why am I feeling like this? I sit up and try talking to her again.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to... I'm... my name's..."
I can't recall my name.
"Jake. We've been calling you Jake."
A man's voice. From behind me. I turn. He waves.
"I'm Bill. She's Jean. That grumpy looking guy is Mike. That girl sleeping on the floor was Laurie."
"I... I don't remember who I am... did I hit my head?"
"No. You fell asleep. We forget everything after we fall asleep."
"I... what?"
That doesn't make any sense. Bill gets up and walks towards me. He offers his hand and helps me get up as well.
"When you explained it to me after I woke up, I thought you were crazy."
"I explained it...?"
"Yes. You and Jean. You were already awake when I got up. None of us remember anything before waking up. You told me what Mike told you and Jean. And, apparently, what I told Laurie."
I tried recalling any of it. I tried recalling anything. Anything at all. Nothing. My mind was completely blank.
Jean approached, wiping her tears.
"He's telling the truth. If you can't remember me, he's telling the truth."
