"Keine Bewegung! Don't move!" Hissed the German man at me while holding a gun at my temples and staring into my eyes. He was breathing heavy in pain and exhaustion. I noticed the bandage at his other arm and hanging quite limp.572Please respect copyright.PENANADEmuw922P9
"What do you want?" I wondered calmly, knowing if he fires his gun more people will be after him and he knows it too. His ocher brown eyes told me he knows in what situation he is in. All he wants is to survive, to live.
"Some- some provision. Essen. Food and that of my arm." He spoke in softer tone trying to find the right words in English. He knows the words well but the pronunciation is funny to hear. Well at this moment I can't afford to laugh since there is a gun at my temples. I fear his arm doesn't look good and with food I'm living on a meager ration as it is. Maybe my wife can whip up something but still he won't survive another night out here due to his lack of sleep. Why is it always me? I refused to go to war and now it has found me. My older brother went to the Great War and never returned. Maybe my father was right, the family is cursed. What assurance do I have in taking him in, that he won't shoot my wife, the children from London and me?572Please respect copyright.PENANAHnRLNckV1i
Well he has the same chances as I do. Maybe later I can remove his gun and have a shout ready of my neighbors to aid when needed. Keep him out of sight and away from the children. Why do I get the impression from his eyes that he is not a Nazi but an unfortunate soul forced into war? I began to nod to his words. "Come with me, I'll bring you to my farm, my home." I spoke slowly for him to follow.572Please respect copyright.PENANAN7CH8rn58V
He began to nod, understanding me and lowered the gun but kept pointing it at me. I walked ahead to lead the way, it's almost breaking dawn, I need to hurry and at best without the lantern burning.572Please respect copyright.PENANAXC0JIsTuuk
Suddenly I felt his gun at my spine. "Warum ausgelöscht! Why light out?" He hissed.572Please respect copyright.PENANA8162km4Dbd
"To avoid the others." I gave calmly.572Please respect copyright.PENANA9oBuXZfN1z
"G-go." He stuttered to find the right words, his revolver remained at my spine. My knees started to turn into jelly, not the perfect moment to have that! I sighed and walked on.572Please respect copyright.PENANAYtRsXhgge5
As my farm was only few yards away I heard behind me a collapse and the gun at my spine was gone. I turned around. The German pilot lay unconscious on the ground. For a long moment I wondered speechless what I should do? Should I carry him in and aid as said or call in my neighbors to arrest him? Shooting him with his gun does not come into a question, that's not me and since avoiding to serve why should I shoot him here? Before I could make up my mind I quickly grabbed his revolver and put it into my pocket. Gently I lifted his upper torso before throwing him over my shoulder and walked the last bit.572Please respect copyright.PENANASssU5QR50g
