When she ran the world literally seemed to stop around her. The faster she moved across the surface of the Earth, the slower time went until eventually even her thoughts came to a stand still inside her head. Worries and stress melted away, disappearing into the sky in the arms of a soft and sometimes frail wind. But this time was different.
Pain. With a grunt she closed her eyes and clawed at her torso between her hips. And then the forest betrayed her. Taiga slipped, her left foot caught in a root, the impact ripping from her the breath of life. Even as she withered on the ground the pain refused to fade and she realised, as tears spilled over, that she was scared. A foreign emotion for a foreign experience.
"Taiga?"
Her black eyes opened and she smiled slightly. "I'm fine." He helped her into a sitting position, her back against the tree trunk, and watched her closely.
"You seem far from fine." His small frame was muscular. He was built a runner, fast and agile- the perfect hunter. His long black hair was braided down his back, his golden chest exposed to the sun and covered in beads of sweat. "What's wrong? You never loose your footing."
"I'm not sure. I..." She was cut off as another wave of pain hit her and she grimanced. How could her body be so frail at a time like this. "Koda?"
"Yeah?"
"My blood moon started today." Her eyes were wide, waiting for a reaction from his usually emotionless face. Koda looked away from her for only a second, but that split second was just enough. A wave of uneasiness washed over her, replacing her excitement instantly. "Koda?"
His eyes met hers and she relaxed alittle, pushing away the uneasiness into the back of her mind and locking it away. A smile played on his lips as he closed the distance between them. He was so close, closer than he had ever been, and she leaned towards him, never breaking away from his gaze. She felt.... odd, but odd in a good way. She needed him closer, needed him.... needed him.... closer....
He stopped inches from her and she suddenly looked away, fighting the fuzziness in her head; why couldnt she think straight? What had just happened? A small gasp escaped her mouth when she realized how wet she was, soaking through her pants. Her body seemed to be in some sort of overdrive. The tears were about to pour again, but his voice destracted her from her embarrasment.
"So you are ready." His voice was hollow and distant despite how close he was to her, as if he had escaped into his thoughts and was no longer present.
"Ready? Ready for what?" When she looked back over to examine his face the need returned instantly; the need to have him closer, to mesh their bodies into one. No, it was much deeper than that. It was a need she didn't understand, a longing thirst for him that she had no idea how to quench. Her body had become foreign to her.
Taiga blinked when she realized his hand had brushed her cheek, guiding her to him until.... When their lips touched she exploded, but it brought her no relief like she had hoped, only magnified the feelings that were ripping her apart. Koda broke away and was watching her struggle with a sly smile. As soon as he had pulled away she was leaning in for more, like a starved animal.
"Koda?"
"Yes Taiga?" His smile widened at the sound of her frail whispering voice. Her eyes were half closed and she was still attempting to lean in, searching for some relief. He had done it, the spell was successfully completed, and he knew that now she wouldnt fight him.
"Help.... help me..." Her head dropped slightly as she closed her dark eyes and shook her head side to side in slow motion as if she were drunk. "Something is wrong... I... I don't feel... so good."
No.
Koda's eyes widened. She was much stronger than he had anticipated. Scowling, he tried frantically to determine his next course of action. If he continued she would fight him the whole way, and it was something he couldn't fathom doing to her. But on the flip side it had to happen now, his time was running out.
He grabbed her shoulders and squeezed them softly, bringing his lips to her ear so her could whisper the last words that were needed. She barely understood what he had said before he had ripped her away from the tree and had slammed her on to the ground.
I'm sorry. Please forgive me.
He had whispered I'm sorry. Taiga closed her eyes as the wind hit her bare body and she smiled. Then he was on her, skin against skin, and she watched through half open eyes his face peering down at her. He hesitated. A rain drop hit her face, causing her to question her sanity. It definitely wasn't raining. But there it was again. He was crying. She opened her mouth to say comforting words to him but her brain was rattled by a sudden pain.
A pain she hadn't been expecting
A pain that was slipping away.
Away.... away...
A moan. Was it hers? His? It didnt matter.
She was being given the relief she desired.
'Thank you' she wanted to whisper.
The words never came out.
